  1. Get your jumps, get your ratings, open the DZ, train the big boys. Once all that is all wrapped up you can soap box about people that aren't willing to make the poor investment in individuals that are perfectly capable of decreasing their body weight! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  2. I wouldn't cut it, just have someone redo the fingertrap for the excess brake line. If your brake lines are otherwise sound, not shrunk, or not excessively worn, then this is not a reason to replace the brake lines. Someone with a finger trap tool, or a fid, can get the excess back into the line in 2 minutes. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  3. I am with TK here, it can be done, but why? A 280 pound person can be a 230 pound person, even if they are 6'10! This guy may be a tall individual, who has decided to let himself get out of shape. So sorry, get it under control! Maybe they are a super fit body builder, good for them, it doesn't change that fact that the two hobbies conflict with each other. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  4. I had one of those, and at one time I read the manual, but I don't recall any restrictions like that. I was loading my 170 up with lots of weight and doing front riser landings. It was a waste of my time, but it never demonstrated any scary performance from it. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  5. How has the Democrat solution been working out in the poor inner cities where they have a stranglehold on state and local government? Sure they have voters, anything else to show for it? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  6. If you decide you don't like it, hook a brother up, I might be interested in buying it. I broke my ankle on divot in the ground back in July on a tandem. I have a feeling I am going to want something bigger than my 140 or my 104 when I am done healing and am getting back in the air. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  7. Thanks Head Honcho. I wasn't sure if it was crapware on my phone, or the ads! Guess that clears it up. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  8. Am I the only on experincing this? Dz.com pages have been popping up google play store, trying to get me download an app. Pretty sure it is one of the ad servers. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  9. Honestly I don't recall, I haven't had it my hands in 7 years or so. I would guess it was the older vintage. The most likely put a different slider on it in later years, and changed the size or aspect ratio of the slider, or both. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  10. I put a few hundred of my earlier jumps on a Hornet 170. The openings were often hard as hell, but I really liked the canopy once it was done thrashing me on opening. I moved on to smaller higher performance canopies, but I kind of wish I still had that canopy for use in my bigger rig. If you aren't ready to downsize I would invest in the lineset, outside of the openings they really are great all around canopies. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  11. All of those canopies have the BEST possible flare if flown in the BEST possible way. A canopy course will make 200x more difference than the choice between a Pilot, Sabre II, or Safire II at a given size. Even your Hornet is a contender, I love those canopies they were ahead of their time, once you tame the opening. They all have slightly different flare characteristics, so the perfect flare technique to hit the sweet spot and keep the canopy flying is going to be different for each one. The point for you to take away, is that a perfect flare under each canopy with have equally acceptable results. Demo all of them, and find the canopy which has flight characteristics that you like the best. It is very personal, my friends loved their Safire II's. I loved the openings when I head a heavy camera helmet, but I hated the toggle pressure it was too soft for me, I liked that feedback of a canopy with higher toggle pressure. But I can put them all down on the ground for a nice landing. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  12. I just made a similar request myself, in a thread where he was adding his opinion that a Sabre II was at least 50% safer in turbulence, than the Safire II, in his opinion, and his experience of course. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  13. Still dancing I see. I don't know why it is so difficult to say, I did 250 jumps on my Safire II, before putting the next 300 on my Sabre II. I had x number of bad landings under my Safire II that I attribute to it being a less suitable design (less suitable for you) than the Sabre II. It is easy to share with the group, and it helps add weight to your commentary. Your DZ sounds very similar to mine in regards to conditions. I haven't seen a rash of landing injuries due to turbulence and not flying Sabre II's. What DZ that you jump at, which has a big pool of broken jumpers that you can poll for input? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  14. Don't care to address the real world experience for your opinion? It is relevant for other users of the forum. Your friends have had crappy landings and got hurt? Again it isn't the canopy, it is the stupid decision to jump in those conditions. Opinions carry weight in the skydiving world. This isn't a knitting website last time I checked. Opinions without basis unfairly hurt vendors, and they can't motivate skydivers to make stupid decisions, or uneducated ones. It is a pretty bold statement, your opinion, that some how the Sabre II has this large safety margin over the Safire II in bad conditions. You must have a shit ton of jumps with the two canopies and lots of canopy flight experience in general to make such a claim, right? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  15. That is why I bought one, despite watching friends lose cash to Argus purchases. I figured this was a better gamble, and I honestly would like to see more competition in the market. I was also sick of sending in my Cypress II. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  16. Has the Manufacturer of the product been around that long or the product itself? I may be misunderstanding, and if so,I'm more than happy to eat crow. No idea how much longer the manf. has been around, but they have been making AAD's since 2003. This product variation has been around since 2011. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  17. Unless I am wrong Argus had no track record in this industry, so that isn't a fair comparison to MarS a.s. They have been making AAD's since 2003. http://www.m2aad.com/about-us "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  18. If you are relying on canopy choice to be the deciding factor between a salvageable landing and an injury in turbulent conditions maybe you need a new canopy operator, or operating techniques, and not a new canopy. Even better, you shouldn't be jumping in those conditions. The difference that you thinks exists just isn't reality. Out of curiosity, since you seem to be the DZ.com guru of all questions asked as of late, where exactly do you jump that you have racked up all this immense experience jumping with turbulence. I am guessing based on your post that you must have 100's of Sabre II jumps, and the same for Safire II jumps, right? That only makes sense given how strongly your deliver your opinion, it must be backed up with boat loads of real world experience with both canopies. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  19. That describes every manufacturer and vendor that I have dealt with in my 10 years in the sport. Even ones that I was die hard supporters for when it came to gear preference. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  20. What is the benefits of the a5100 over the a6000. The specs read as though they both have the same fast auto focus. I usually put my camera on RRS L mounts, so I am less concerned about the accessibility of the SD card. Those mounts typically allow unfettered access. Is anyone using one of the newer full frame mirrorless sony's for jumping? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  21. I love skydiving like a prime time live broadcast show, i.e. with a tape delay. Toggle down... wait wait wait wait turn. Flare... wait wait wait wait fuck FUCK flare FLARE "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  22. How dare you utter those words. I need to read more of those posts like I need a gunshot wound to the face! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  23. At what loading? Were you jumping it? Either way if it was advice I was giving to a friend, unless it was the difference between not being able to afford to finish putting together the rig, the few extra hundred dollars on a Smart or PDR will leave you much better off. The Swift Plus isn't getting any younger! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
