I believe they weighted the rig and jumper. They really are pure artistic genius.

Spend a week with Twardo. Don't screw up and hit him in the back of the head and destroy his ear; he's less tolerant than I am.

At Skydive Elsinore, we have a reference guide for the coaches that have been trained here. Several have asked for the latest update to be public; perhaps it'll be of use to coaches out there. Many thanks to Jeff Donohue and Alan Martinez for the legal vetting on the front end of the document. The manual is intended for use with the training videos we have posted online (and a few we haven't). SEWS REFERENCE GUIDE

I'm fairly behind in posting incidents, there have been a few more than I've pasted up. I guess I need to get on it. It's a fair assumption that you didn't read the entire post; yes...it's long. If you walked away thinking "snag hazard" then you missed the bigger points in many of the postings. There was an AAD fire in the midwest a few days ago from a low-timer thinking it's all about the snag hazard.... It's mental. You barely know how to skydive. You barely know what to be focused on during the ride to altitude and in the skydive. On the other hand, some very useful training video has been obtained from low-time skydivers wearing small format cameras in recent months. And yes...it has been done. You might not find it via Google, but frenched/molded in cameras have been done.

Like the Ghost 3 performs compared to the Ghost 1. It's a larger leap from the P2 to the P3 than the P1 to the P2. We're super impressed with them (several on DZ now, and they do prove better performance than the same pilot could achieve in the P2).

I don't know which one is you, but the head-high position isn't helping forward speed and generating washy flight. Attached is a page from the SOP guide we use at Skydive Elsinore. It might help you change up the body position. Be aware of the leg, in a few of those scenes, legs are lazy, generating yaw. This link may have some suggestions for you. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxhZWxju4_IlQUZDdGtnZUlqM2s

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1812685230225 here's another oldie, but funny one. Matt is working on backflying, and I get stuck on his chest (although it looks like something else). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p5VQwGNQP0&feature=relmfu @ nearly 600 FFC's...there are some really bad ones up on the 'net. I'll dig to find some badder stuff. [edit] here's one; https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1574486515406 There is outside video of the rodeo barrel roll, but he was too far out for it to be useful. It's hard to chase a rodeo unless you're initiated; chasing a barrel rolling WS rodeo is even harder. You should try it with a condom-coated banana in your chest strap. The training videos are nearly 3 years old, been publically available for half that. We use them for students here at the school. There are others that aren't part of the blog. Flylikebrick has some outstanding training content too. FWIW, I'm a big fan of your suggestion; it's why you'll find proficiency cards, articles, etc published on WS that Jarno, myself, and a couple of others have posted. Sadly, they get viewed but no comments and it quickly gets back to the silly arguments (of which I've participated in a few, much to my embarrassment). All that said, I'm just a fat ole' mediocre wingsuiter that wants to dominate the world, getting filthy rich off the backs of unsuspecting wingsuit-wannabees, as I tour the country in my super awesome well-airconditioned wingsuit trailer that holds a huge number of demo suits that I don't sell. Glad you enjoyed the vids.

One of our newer WS had a T-shirt made after his second P3 jump.

Where and by whom?
-
Yes, RePlay files are actually compatible with all version of Vegas post version 5. Have you uninstalled DVDA? Changed any prefs? (thirdparty codec pref) Files are on HDD or on card?
-
This sounds like a codec problem. What is the codec of the source file? From what camera or computer system did these files originate?

I do recognize the concern that arbitrary wingsuit rentals will be affected by dropzones that don't allow wingsuits. On the other hand, if a DZO is on the fence and seeking information, he/she is reaching out and trying to make an informed decision, or at the least, trying to understand more about potential options. Being on "the list" has already been identified as an instant non-starter for at least two DZO's, one of which has now allowed wingsuiting on a limited basis after conversations and emails with myself and another WS instructor. "The List" may be intended as informational, but given the attitudes presented here, DZO's are right to be concerned that they'll become the target of mudslinging. It doesn't matter if it's 5, 8, 10, or 20 DZ's; if the list vilifies DZO's, or acts as a divider amongst DZO's, then it's not a good thing for the discipline. I feel we should be trying to work together, not creating lists of "who is opposed to what we do." Interesting to note tho, some want a "US standard" of who won't allow wingsuits on their DZ, but are opposed to a US standard of instruction.

What is the specific problem? I can try to help. You can call the VASST tech support line (my company) but it isn't free. Sony has free tech support, the number is on the card in your box. There are also the Sony support forums at [url]http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com

I agree. There are currently several DZ's that are currently not permitting WS. However, at least 3 of them are working on options and there is hope that we'll see them allow WS in the near future. Some of us have spent hours on the phone and internet working with these DZ's. It's in no one's best interests to create a list, however well intended, of DZ's that aren't currently compatible with wingsuiting. If you genuinely are concerned, how hard is it to pick up a phone, call the DZ and ask the question vs digging up a post on a website and hoping it's still accurate? One call, that's all.

XTi firing when turned on - tongue switch
DSE replied to Psychonaut's topic in Photography and Video
It could be possible the switch inside has worn out, and the contacts are touching each other? Can you get a dummy 2.5mm plug from Radio Shack or similar and see if that stops the problem? -
My understanding (possibly a misunderstanding) after speaking with several PIA manufacturers, is anything that hinders or modifies the container and release systems from "manufacturer-defined means of operation" is a violation of the TSO. Perhaps Bill Booth or John Sherman can kick in on this one. There are manufacturers who specifically said they could not be held responsible in the event of one of these systems failing; it is a use of their equipment in a method other than as designed.

contour vs gopro mounts for minimum snag points?
DSE replied to mixedup's topic in Photography and Video
the contour mount is fine. DO NOT USE the tether. Tethering a camera to your helmet could have dire consequences if entangled in risers or control lines. -
contour vs gopro mounts for minimum snag points?
DSE replied to mixedup's topic in Photography and Video
First, the standard disclaimer applies (get the number of jumps before putting on a camera)... DeltaGear sells low profile mounts for the GoPro. I'm a bigger fan of the Contour for mounting height and snag points. However, there are many, many more GP mounting options. -
Yes....I agree... But......... Let's assume (just for the sake of discussion) for a moment that people are going to fly these suits with skydiving gear, would this not be safer than having the modded handles? (edited to sound less "snarky") Using a system where one has to unzip the suit under stressful conditions, or using a loop that may or may not deploy if it's not pulled at the correct angle? I can't judge one better than the other if that's the answer you're pushing for. Both are violations of FARs. Both are violations of the rig manufacturer TSO. Both are significantly greater risk for the jumper. Both could cause insurance companies to say "Sorry, not in legal compliance," therefore they won't pay out. Both open up the DZ and WS manufacturer to greater exposure in a lawsuit. The manufacturer is well aware of the problem with the loops, and has issued a statement telling people to not use them. Allowing either system to exit an aircraft demonstrates poor decision-making on the part of an S&TA or DZO, in my opinion. There are handle mods for this one particular wingsuit that are in compliance with manufacturer TSO; they're just not "cool" looking, even if they are perfectly functional.
-
The safest option would be to not screw with the manufacturer's TSO by hiding the handles. TSO is there for a reason, and will be one of the first things looked at by the FAA. Read pages 12/13 of AD105-2D FAA: Where are the cutaway and reserve handles installed by the manufacturer? DZO: This is a special circumstance where we allow people to use a system that doesn't permit access to handles in a standard method. FAA: Uhh, why?
-
I've seen rigs with weight pockets sewn into the backpad and also into the mudflaps over the MLW. I'm certain that any manufacturer you speak with has had this conversation with someone else in the past, and can provide some guidance.

Imagine yourself spinning violently after a problematic deployment. Maybe you're even a bad-ass and you've taken it to 2K before deploying. Rather than gripping a handle that you're familiar with, you have to find the zipper tab and pull it fairly well down, then reach inside a potentially tensioned suit with a definitely pressurized wing, and find a cutaway handle. Maybe you have an RSL or Skyhook, maybe you don't. Without those, you're going to need to unzip the other zipper too, and gain access to the reserve ripcord. All while experiencing an increase in rotational speed. It has worked in the past.
