What can we do about Skyride?
DSE replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well then, that settles it. The owner of the business being investigated by the States of Georgia, Utah, Arizona, and have been the topic and subject of at least a dozen newscasts nationwide for fraud, says they "didn't do it." What more could you possibly need to know? -
Being shy and introverted at a DZ definitely won't help when it comes to safety.
-
I posted a skydiving video on Youtube a couple months back when we were testing it. Search under VASSTTRAINING. Audio in the pre-production model wasn't working correctly, in the shipping model the audio must be attenuated. It's always 5.1 mode, which makes it different than what you're used to.

Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??

Perhaps you're misreading the charts? asked and answeredin a previous post. Read the report from the Department of Justice; it encompasses *all* reported bias crimes. The FBI report only includes the crimes they investigated. Further, if you read both reports, each agency assumes approximately 40% of crimes go unreported. Minimizing or debating the very clear numbers doesn't make them false. It happens. Every hour of every day somewhere in this country. To a real live. breathing, feeling, contributive member of society. I'm sorry that it doesn't bother you. -
Sounds like a brilliant conclusion to me. With a wingloading of 1.14, you'll be ready for that 150 in no time flat. The reserve is pretty scary any way you look at it though. Unconscious or conscious, it's beyond your level to jump. Keep in mind that if you end up using your reserve, you'll likely not be calm, cool, and collected, either, and that reserve will be significantly faster than you're anticipating or familiar with. Perhaps when you're ready for the 150 you might consider picking up a PD Optimum 143, that's pretty close to the 150 in size, and you'd be able to manage that, or should be.
-
Can you land the 170 standing every time? Hit where you want to land within a few yards? Land in zero winds? As Jarrett mentions, 1.14 is a light wingloading, but that doesn't take into account the way the canopy performs, either. The Electra appears to be an intermediate canopy...so the question predominantly runs to how you manage the 170. Any input from your instructors or experienced skydivers at your current DZ? This article may help you come to an informed decision.

71 x 93 would be a 180 degree angle, or a .5 lens, more or less.

Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??

Bullshit. The FBI's UCR claim's 11,000 hate crimes/year? Bullshit! According to the FBI's UCR, the vast majority of hate crimes are against people of color? Bullshit! What a complete load of uninformed BULLSHIT!!! Get it right. Well...the FBI usually gets it right. Hatewatch has less conservative numbers, so I went with the most conservative report I'm aware of. for 2005. 2006 shows 10, 240 crimes. For 2007, I rounded it down to 11,000 based on the increase between 2002 and 2006. We'll just fly with the numbers from 2005. Bias crimes against white persons: 828 crimes/975 victims. Bias crimes against non-whites (people of color) 3091 crimes/3756 victims Big difference by any math. In most comparisons, anything beyond 50% is considered the "majority," right? so how is 3756 vs 975, 1405, or 1213 not a "vast majority?" Bias crimes against religions: 1227 crimes/1405 victims Bias crimes against homosexuals: 1017 crimes/1213 victims [edited to add: The Department of Justice also has a report that doesn't include the FBI numbers. Their numbers are almost identical to Hatewatch, approximating 210,000 per year. But we're improving. At least you didn't call me a liar this time. -
Yup...Mads got back with me this morning, said it was the nickname for what the car horn does when people honk it in quick succession.

Make the time to present a synopsis. you can't. It's far to intertwined, and the title of the presentation summarizes it very nicely.

hatewatch FBI websiteds (read the UCR's/Uniform Crime Reports) google "HateCrime" Fo find your own, as anything I would point to will simply be poo-poo'd. Does it truly matter what the percentage of hate crimes is vs non-hate crimes??? Sex crimes against children are barely rate compared to sex crimes against adults. What's your point? -
45 loads to 4k 13 loads to 10k She's old.

I didn't look at it from that side, either. Was just surprised to get this pamphlet in the mail, never seen anything like it from Sony. Bear in mind, the consulting I do with Sony is the broadcast side/software tools, so have no affiliation with, relationship with, nor fondness for the Electronics divisions. I buy my small cams from same places you do.

Not arguing for a lesser penalty in one case, but rather arguing for an added penalty in certain circumstances. If one robs a convenience store, there is a penalty. If they use a firearm, there is a greater penalty/additional charge. If someone is threatened or struck, or worse, there is an additional charge still yet. Kinda like the drive-thru at McDonalds. You can get just one item, or a Happy Meal. It's already this way, adding a hate crime to the charges *if* the motivation can be shown to be prejudicial in nature. My opinion; if it's not crystal clear that it's a bias-motivated crime, it shouldn't be charged as such. As much as I hate to use the cliche' incidents; Would Matthew Shepherd have been hung on a fence for 2 days if he wasn't gay? Would James Byrd have been dragged behind a truck until his body was torn in two? These two men were specifically sought out and attacked due to color or preference. Had Byrd been any color but black, had Shepherd been straight, these crimes would not have occurred. How about as recent as YESTERDAY? It happens several times a year. According to the FBI, roughly 100 times per year in the US. It also happened recently where a man made a "victim" of himself, burning a cross in his own yard claiming it was racists doing the deed. Despicable, as it costs credibility to those that would otherwise be taken seriously. The statistics are very clear; even if they're discounted by 25% (abitrary number pulled out of thin air) it's still incredibly high at around 11,000 incidents per year, with the vasst majority being committed against people of color. Then religion, sexual orientation follow. Small sampling: 2004 Bias motivated crimes against persons Category: Simple Assault Committed by white; 1078 Committed by black; 376 Bias motivated crimes against persons Category: Intimidation Committed by white; 1412 Committed by black; 272 Bias motivated crimes against Property Category: Destruction/Damage/Vandalism Committed by white; 398 Committed by black; 64 Bias-motivated/hate crimes happen. Daily. Maybe not in your world. Maybe you're open and accepting that in your world, you can't believe that others would commit these crimes based on hatred for race, creed, color, sexual orientation. Not believing it doesn't make it less so. 1969912--Perhaps you're not aware that the Irish attempted to get hate crime legislation passed at the turn of the century in NYC? Or that the Irish Parliament recently passed a hate crimes bill? This isn't a new story, nor is it an American story. it's just a sad story. -
I was surprised to see that too. What a weird marketing approach. The PC series are pretty niche, I think, but anyway, figured I'd share. Still scratching my head. What are they going to do with all these cameras? dump em' in some third world country as a tax write off?
-
Dunno if anyone else received it, but Sony sent a flyer that I received today. They're offering upgrades/trade-ins. Very weird indeed, I can't think of a time that any part of the consumer video market has done anything like this. Their website offers a trade in on just about any kind of consumer vid cam there is. I was pleased to see my Canon GL2 is worth about $750.00 to them

Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??

To the point of the linked article, and the position you present, of course it's not going to deter crime. The death penalty doesn't deter crime either, nor does life imprisonment. And the point is? If one kills in a crime of passion, for profit, or political statement, the victim is just as dead. Same with hate-motivated murder. This is a silly argument; by *far* the majority of hate crimes are not murder. They are crimes to intimidate, steal liberty from, cause pain for, the victims of the crime simply based on their color, religion, sexual orientation or country of origin. Economic terrorism laws are acceptable, but laws protecting citizens from other citizens are not? Is there an irony that the perpetrators of hate crimes are the same persons fighting the concept of hate crime? -
Interesting to read, as I was taught to rotate my rings occasionally to see that they hadn't developed a set to them.

Didn't realize this about the military, but it's why most vehicles in film are generally grey or other neutral tones, so as to not detract from characters or action. People notice the traffic, but not the vehicles themselves. On the other hand being very obvious might achieve stealth.

Burn a cross in a public area, it's a political statement. Burn a cross on anyone's lawn, it's likely vandalism. Burn a cross on a black person's lawn, yes, I would think it's classified as a hate crime. Under current law, it *is* a hate crime. -
Thanks for the link. Once you get past the ridiculously long-winded intro, it's a very inspiring presentation.

Why is it you don't want to use their universal metal mount? Is it too high a profile?

Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??
DSE replied to simplyputsi's topic in Speakers Corner
Historically, the burning cross comes from a hate group. Hopefully we agree on that point? Historically, is there any evidence that a cross has been burned in the yard of any non-minority, save it be for a couple of isolated instances during the civil rights movement? Seems to me that empirical evidence would prove this out. I think it is well-known that the hangman's noose, burning cross, swastika, white pointed cap, Celtic cross in a circle, HFFH, 88, (and to some) the Confederate flag are all symbols of racist tendencies or activities. When any of these are visited upon a non-white as part of a crime, it's self-evident that it's hate-related in nature. If it is self-evident to a non-partisan body of society, it is self-proving. "We hold these truths to be self evident..." and all that. -
Because my morals and ethics don't go that low?

Yes. It doesn't provide voltage out, so an indicator isn't going to happen, but there is always a pocket mirror.
