This is the second reference I've seen to "Flight Club" lenses. Googling has gotten me nowhere. links? Pix? Info?

My gamble is that your HDD is formatted FAT32 and your video is rendering to the DV codec, which will peak out at 20 mins (give or take). Video drives on a PC should always be NTFS. I could be wrong, but that's the most likely bet. Now...if it *is* this, DON'T reformat your drive to NTFS if you have other content on the drive. It's quite easy to convert a drive from FAT to NTFS without reformatting or disturbing your content on the FAT drive. Check the formatting first, then if you need the info, I'll tell you how to convert. BTW... Get a "real" editing program.

Agreed, and if it's found to be so, she should be forced to apologize on national television, summarily fired, then charged with public nuisance and whatever else charges can be brought upon her and anyone who knew/knows. Perhaps someone with a PhD is dumb enough to do this, but given how quickly the clown that burned crosses in his own yard was caught out...it's a helluva risk.

Brian Germain's Book: Canopy and its Pilot
DSE replied to hackish's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Are you sure about that? - David From "Transcending Fear" book description: As a professional skydiver, test pilot and psychologist, Brian Germain offers a unique personalized perspective on the phenomenon of fear. Reflecting on his many intense experiences with fear, Brian sorts through the most current psychology research on fear, and presents the ways to de-escalate the emotional response in provocative situations. -
So, do the other DZs in the area do tandems from 7K?

A noose was found hanging on the door of an African-American professor at Columbia earlier today. Although she is the author of "Addressing Racism: Facilitating Cultural Competence in Mental Health and Educational Settings" and provides lectures on racial justice, it probably wasn't motivated by her color or political leanings, therefore it's not a hate crime.

I disagree. There have been multiple times I've called an employee in and said "You seem stressed/tired/whatever, I'd like to send you away for a long weekend." If valuable people aren't operating at their normal efficiency, or if they deserve a reward for a particularly well-done job, a good manager/boss/supervisor will find a positive means of reinforcing or bringing back the standard work ethic. Although management like this is the exception and not the rule, if you feel your boss doesn't have an ulterior motive other than saying "Thank you" or "Take a few days off before the next big push" then I'd say 'take the ticket.'

Should minimum recommendations apply to you?
DSE replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not if you're a DZM, DZO, or S&TA who have observed the skill level of an individual and found them wonting when they're trying to wingsuit, downsize, fly a camera helmet, VRW, raft dive, etc. Their screwup falls on your head. True, it's selfish to not want someone else' damage or death on your hands. Sometimes people need to be saved from themselves. -
Brian Germain's Book: Canopy and its Pilot
DSE replied to hackish's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Similar writing style, different subjective approach. IMO, *everyone* should be force-fed "The Parachute and its Pilot" at some point sub 100 jumps. I have two copies, one in my bathroom for the relaxed reading moments, and the other in my locker at the DZ. I refer to both often. -
Next thing you know, she'll be suing Federal, Speer, or Hornady for making the bullets the crook used to shoot at her, causing her to duck under a car, and bruising her knee. Were I her, I'd be embarassed that as a trained peace officer, she wasn't enough aware of her environment to prevent her from falling on her knees (or ass). More likely, she's probably been teased to death by fellow officers, so this lawsuit is a means of recovering her ego.

Brian Germain's Book: Canopy and its Pilot
DSE replied to hackish's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, given that Brian is _already_ a psychologist, and has already written a book on the psychology of skydiving I somewhat doubt he's "trying to make up psychology buzz words." I had no trouble reading the second half of the book, nor did I have issues reading "Transcending Fear." I have no psychology background other than my better half being an MSW. But I'm kinda dumb, so maybe I don't know what I really read. -
If you're in the NYC area Oct 23-25, I have limited number of passes to the NAB Post Plus conference. Sessions are very expensive ($800.00) so I only have a few passes. PM me if you'd like to attend as my guest. Very little here to benefit videographers that don't shoot on the ground; it's more for the all-around, or want-to-be-all-around camera/production geek.

You can burn HD DVD to what is called "3X," and it will play on an HD DVD player. These are standard DVDs, but use different data code. So yes Virginia...there is "sorta" a Santa Claus, you can burn 3X content on a standard DVD and play it back on an HD DVD player. Or, you can buy

What can we do about Skyride?
DSE replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Travelocity and Orbitz thrive because they support the industry, selling off excess inventory that would otherwise be lost forever, ie; you've got XXX empty seats on your aircraft, sell em' for what they can be sold for rather than go empty. Got empty beds? Sell em' on a bargain rather than have occupancy, etc. It's not at all comparable. Selling a booking for a highly personalized experience is fine; so long as it's being done honestly. Honest hotel brokers work on the principle of finding out what beds there are to sell first, and then selling them. Skyride sells whatever they can, and then hopes that there is an empty bed after the sale is made. If there isn't, then the excuse is that the room isn't ready, the hotel is being remodeled, the carpets are smelly... If it weren't just the skydiving industry, it would at least point to the sort of ignorance we're reading here. But...it's the gliding, ballooning, race-car thrill, and other "adventures." ThrillPlanet and the other pseudonyms for Skyride are all targets of state and federal investigations, signaling that all is not well in Smyrna. -
Should minimum recommendations apply to you?
DSE replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not one post has suggested as much. It *can* be said that had minimum recommendations been adhered to, the death would absolutely not occurred. That much is indisputable. -
Best answer I can give is this: I've done 5 sitfly jumps with it, and while my sitfly sucks, I've not had stabilization issues with it at all. However....my sit is so poor, fall rate issues keep me from keeping the subject in the frame throughout the skydive. Worked on it today and did the best I've done, but still not good enough to share. Maybe after another half-dozen skydives.... I wear an FTP, so the burble may affect my helmet differently than others.

It may well be that you've got a leaky lens. My *first* move would be to hit Raynox or your dealer to see if they can swap it out.

What can we do about Skyride?
DSE replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ryan, I did PM you directly (after you'd PM'd me about a post), and all I got was a song and dance. We've had 7 people show at our DZ this year in 4 separate instances, all with printed-out Skyride certificates. It's sad that the Skyride phone operators aren't the ones that have to witness the poor sucker when they find out they've been ripped off. In one case, the woman sat down on our packing deck and cried, because of how much money she'd spent. Same thing happened last year, and the local ABC affiliate did a story on it. You denied the story, but it has been posted on Skydivingmovies.com, along with the Arizona story and the Georgia stories. With *so* many people pointing fingers...don't you think there must be _some_ merit to what people are saying? -
Travis Pastrana skydives with no 'chute
DSE replied to joe399's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's not a DZ issue, it's a pilot issue. The pilot would be the punishable party. -
The FAA grounded a skydive O2 system today
DSE replied to Zing's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At the end of the day, isn't this precisely what USPA is supposed to manage for us? I'd expect that USPA can approach the FAA with this ruling and force clarification or a statement from the FAA. -
you might call jim directly? He's great about taking phone calls and questions.

Stratostar and others have provided the recipe for an indicator for your record function. I jumped an XTi for 500 jumps before adding a 40D. XTi is still in great shape, and you can buy an armor covering for it if you want one. I don't wear my DSLR on top right now, but am experimenting with different mounting methods. I tried the SharkFin from Bonehead as a starting point, and didn't like how it set with my HDV camcorder, so am still working on getting it to where/how I want it. Your camcorder needs to sit on the left side of the helmet if you want to use the preview screen (with the CX7 you have no eyepiece) so that is a concern for me with a tape-based camcorder. The HC7 works better for this, IMO, as it's got all connections on the left side, rather than iLink and LANC on the right. Overall, I'll likely be jumping the CX and 40D for most jumps next season.

Should minimum recommendations apply to you?
DSE replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Obviously, this is true, my intent was that some posters suggest not adhering to minimums is a guarantee of failure at some point, whereas people that have adhered to the minimums have failed anyway. As mentioned previously, I do believe in minimums, and have followed them as a personal behavior, but there will always be the guys like MBondVegas flaunts his 50 WS skydives before he's hit 200, and others will mistakenly think that the minimums don't apply to them. It seems many skydivers don't realize the minimums and BSRs are written in blood. -
Oy....I'm not very familiar with the 109; I don't know if it has an audio port or not. If not...then it's likely an internal mic connector. Does the 109 have a dock? If so, it likely doesn't have a mic connector. I'll hazard a guess that it's the mic itself (is the 109 piezo?) or a connecting wire from the mic.
