Or Don Imus Sid Rosenberg Rush Limbaugh (forced to resign for racist comments) Hal Turner (Fired for anti-homosexual comments) Adam Carolla (Fired for anti-Asian commentary) or... Some folks don't won't see bias as a problem, because it's NIMBY. Others exist within it every day. More than likely, neither side will ever accept the other. Some people feel they're superior based on skin color, religion, sexual preference, and it likely will always be so. Society hasn't progressed much in 2000 years.
  2. It may be we've overloaded the Stroboframes; The Z1 with a wide lens is a heavy setup. Either way, thanks for the Calument pointer! Only 20.00 from them. I wish we had a camera supplier/store out in this area that was worth a damn.
  3. The Stroboframes work great, for a while. The lil' red plastic pieces wear, and eventually break, or start to allow for slop. That said, I wish I could find a couple plates-only for these. They're hard to find without the QR. They're good for a lot of other things, too.
  4. The fringing is color timing, and it's exacerbated by AVCHD. You'll barely see it using the same lens on an HDV camcorder, due to differences in compression. Haven't tried the Century, but do have a Raynox. Other than experimenting in the air, I've mostly used the CX7 as a crash cam for an ATV project we shoot, and as a "keep in the car" camcorder.

There are some people who are in your close circle of friends, some that you just ignore, and others who you just tolerate their presence. You've never borrowed money? Never needed to apply for employment? Needed help with a flat tire, wanted to attend an event, sit on a particular bench or under a particular tree? And wanted to be accepted equally outside your "circle of close friends?"
  7. By "ventilated" do they mean internal dust collector? That would be my first thought. This appears to be nothing more than a Royal/Cookie/Waycool-frame style with vents drilled into the side that are bi-directional vs having a one-way valve. I can see that this would work, but at what additional cost? without trying one, I can't imagine that it would stay clean, and also wonder if there are any distortions amplified by dirt/dust moving behind the glass?
  8. I don't have a Cookie, but two of the other vidiots on our DZ do. It's the best of the low-profile mounts, that much I'll give you. One of them is quite tight, the other has small amount of play. Without compression, I don't see how anything can be made completely solid, and eventually, compression loosens too. The stroboframes become loose after a while no matter what, I think. I've seen one where the owner painted a rubber solution on the bevel to keep it from moving.
  9. Yes, the Cookie, Bonehead, and Shumacher sit flat. They also only have one point of latch, and all of them have play in them, and the play only gets worse. If they had a compression latch, I'd accept one. Doesn't matter to me if the Bogen sits up a .37" vs the .25, because my camera is still higher than the plate, no matter what is used. The only way that you can truly avoid any space between cam and helmet plate is to hard-mount the cam to the helmet plate with no QR. Until someone makes a recessed QR in the helmet itself, IMO it doesn't matter a whole lot. I'd rather have the double lock and zero movement in the camera than a slightly thinner drop-in/slide in with only one point of connection. Another deciding factor in my case is that I have several Bogen plates in various sizes, and can go from an HC3 to a Z1 in seconds (Have actually only needed to do this twice, but it's fun to justify).

I don't want to be merely tolerated because of my skin color, cultural heritage, religion. I want to be accepted as an equal. I won't tolerate anything less.
  11. I haven't ever seen one cheaper than a Goldmember, Schumaker, or a Cookie flat lock. But I won't trust my gear to those, either. Manfrotto makes a double lock system that I use.
  12. Changing songs...are they the same format? Different bitrates? That could be the culprit. Anyway, EndItAll kills anything not necessary to run the core of your 'puter. I used to use it religiously back when we had to share 'puters.
  13. If it's going to DVD for DVD playback, you want MPEG2, bitrate not higher than 8.5Mbps. next thing is wondering if your swap file is properly managed? You might try finding an application called "EndItAll". It used to be free, and if you search around the web, you can still find a free version in obscurity. Run it just before opening Movie Maker. If that doesn't cure it...there is some other hardware malfunction that may be due to heat. Rendering is very CPU intensive, and can generate a lot of heat. At the point it craps out, do you have any large photos that might be eating up RAM?
  14. Not running antivirus in the background, are you? Outlook is closed (email uses a lot of temp space) HDD's in DMA and not PIO mode?

If you want to see an excellent example of them doing exactly that, rent this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101479/ In a nutshell, the movie was made simply sitting down with bigots, turning on the camera, and letting them talk, only occasionally asking them a question. It is amazing what fools they can make of themselves with no help at all. Fun film to watch, as is "American History X" with Ed Norton. Neither film is accurately indicative of racism or bias in America. These films are both depictions of extremes. Unfortunately, they are both indicative of what most white people consider to be racism in America. I've met very few redneck racists in my life, but have met many well-educated, articulate, even wealthy self-made men who are worse animals than Thom Robb. Bias crime goes far beyond racism, BTW. Somewhere in the ether, that point seems to be missed. Everyone seems to want to point at "the black man" which is revealing in and of itself.
  16. Now, if we could just get everyone to sit in a climate-controlled room with wires hooked connected, we'd probably have a better idea of specific psychology. On the other hand, if one could specifically quantify the chemical composition of "joy" while skyidiving in a measurement that could be applied to everyone involved, then we'd have something. We could bottle it, sell it, and ground all the aircraft. Fortunately, that'll never happen. Sundance, you said it more eloquently than I could. Brian Germain is an incredibly relaxed person who causes others around him to do the same, or at least in my experiences around him (not many). Denete, figure out what makes Brian the relaxed, calming, well-educated and sharing person that he is, bottle it, sell it, you'll be more wealthy than Bill Gates. Brian's delivery speaks very well to the emotional side of me, in terms that make sense. Given that he's writing to me and others like me...suggests he's write on target. I wish my writings were as succinct and conversational as his work.

Aside from the fact that virtually every society in the free world has hate crime legislation? Try google. You'd be amazed at what you'll find.

Okay. Most of the free world disagrees.
  19. Well...the width of the lens adapter is based in part on the camera you fly, because different cams have different focal lengths at wide. The Royal (or any other lens) .5 will be the closest in angle of view to another .5, but .5 lenses are not all the same. You can easily find 15% of difference in various 180 degree/.5 lenses. Of the low-cost lenses, I found the Royal to have slighly better resolution than any of the other cheepies. I did not test the Cookie; I'd asked for a lens to test, but a lens was not forthcoming. Next spring when the new trade season hits, I'll likely again test various adapters. Back to point...you'll need to do at least one skydive to test your distance after changing lenses, unless you've got a measurement plate on your wall (unlikely?)
  20. Insects have rights too, y'know? What's an insects best pick up line? -Pardon me, but is this stool taken? With that sort of conversation, it would probably leave anyone emotionally scarred.

Of course the law applies to everyone. As an example, in Guthrie, KY, a white kid was killed by 6 black kids when he displayed a confederate flag on his car. They were charged with, and convicted of murder. Black business owners where charged with intimidating a Korean store owner in Philly. There are dozens of examples of the minority crimes against whites, as one example, where the minorities were charged with bias/hate crimes. There are Jew on Jew hate crimes that have been charged. Gay men have been arrested sharged with assault on straight men. Both the DOJ and FBI have very specific statistics and not all hate crimes are perpetrated by whites against minorities. Not at all. Hate all you want. Let the hate thrive within you, grow like a vine around your heart. Feed it, nurture it, revel in it, be consumed by it. (bit of trivia, that's a paraphrase from M*A*S*H.) Verbalize your hate, paint it, write about it/publish it, make video or audio recordings on YouTube. Preach it, broadcast it, proselyte a new religion based on hate. Let it inspire greater hate (is that possible?) Just don't allow it to motivate a violent act against another human being.
  22. The information about parachutes is quantifiable. Hence a lot of numbers, math, and sensibilities that can be measured. Psychology cannot be specifically measured; it is at best a very educated guess made on baselines established in a unique environment.

Amongst other reasons, killing a black man because you're a bigot inspires fear, intimidation, and has a negative impact upon an entire community borne of that fear and intimidation. Killing a specific black man, such as Martin Luther King, was about putting a component of our society "in their place" as opposed to simply killing a black man. You don't get a lesser sentence for killing a black man when you're not a bigot. You get a stiffer sentence if it can be proven that because you are a bigot, you were motivated to enact a crime. Additionally, hate crimes such as assault, vandalism, etc are rarely enacted alone. For you to be a solo performer in a crime motivated by bias would be exceptionally rare. Therefore, collusion and conspiracy are involved. Collusion and conspiracy on their own are enough to get you arrested, before you commit any actual crime. Therefore, collusion and conspiracy are added charges to the actual crime. If you've colluded and conspired based on color, religion, sexual bias, or politics, then it becomes still yet, another add-on component to the charges. Thankfully, this is a moot discussion, as the laws have been passed both at state and federal levels.

I find the concept of committing a crime motivated of bias against other cultures, colors, religions, sexual preferences, or political aspirations to be absurd. The only thing more absurd is being given a free pass on the motivation and being punished for only the action. The "why" is very much a component of the "what."
