Agreed. Us guys in Prom dresses feel alienated, but if the whole community gathers 'round and helps Scotty win this thing...we'll feel only slightly outkast instead of completely outkast. If folks will just hang in there for a couple more days...it'll work!

Be aware that many of your plugs won't work in the 64bit version....for now
-
I've been working with it for several months now. Very much enjoy it!

YouTube munged the audio, so I'm reuploading. I wish Youtube would allow for MP4 to be native.
-
Free upgrade, so you'll want to get your hands on it. http://vimeo.com/1714475 Fixed. Audio is all there now.

Shh....don't attempt to infuse reason or rational thought into any conservative effort. I could never run for president or be First Gentleman because I'd probably put a bit more emphasis on the indigenous population than Michelle Obama might put on the black population.

I see. you're aware of perhaps one or two types of earplugs, so that makes you an "expert." Are you aware that *many* (and the union recommends it) professional musicians, including symphony musicians, wear frequency-specific-type ear plugs for performance? In other words, there are a wide variety of earplugs, just as there are a wide variety of headphones. I guess it's acceptable if a deaf skydiver kills you, but it's not acceptable if a hearing skydiver wearing headphones kills you? Is that what you're saying? If your granddaughters are ignorant of external stimuli, that says a lot more about their parenting than it does about me being a zombie. Your empirical data is significantly flawed, whereas mine is irrefutable.

I'd wager the above scenario occurs more than there are iPods in skydiving. Every one of us has seen it, and seen it often. Might as well be having the RSL/Cypres/metal handle/pillow handle/helmet/fraphat/nothing/shoelace untied/hackey/PVC/PUD/sunglasses/goggles/greenjumpsuit/bluejumpsuit/and whatever other debate is spawned here. Everyone who listens to music is a "zombie?" I guess everyone who owns a firearm is a murderer? Bullshit. Utter bullshit. Absent of fact, absent knowledge, and plain wrong. Next point; I personally know three completely deaf skydivers. They're very air-aware. Next I'm sure we're going to hear the ridiculous argument that "deaf people are more visually aware than non-hearing impaired people. Many deaf people have no sense of smell, either. I wonder if that makes them more dangerous? (Probably a blessing in many aircraft). Here's one to chew on.... It may be demonstrated that it is MORE SAFE to skydive with a PLD than it is without one. Many skydivers bounce each year. Not one of them died wearing a PLD. Therefore, more skydivers fly safely with PLD's than skydivers who bounce with PLD's. Pretzel logic, but no moreso than being lectured on the use of a PLD by those who never have.

100 jumps isn't remotely close to enough jumps to begin wearing an iPod, just as I told you in your PM, too. But heck, might as well downsize to that 120 while you're at it. At least you'll be going "rillly, rillly fasst" while you listen to those tunes. it's not about the iPod. some people are too dumb to grasp that concept. It's about the DISTRACTION the device brings to the table. The people that bleat on about "not being able to hear in the cabin" or "can't hear under canopy" are likely the same people that speak loudly on a cell phone no matter where they are. Note to those people: we can hear you, even from the other side of the room. You're annoying.

I've seen it,Ian. Somehow, someone got the idea I have respect for Michael Moore. I respect what he's done, but not him as an individual. The original comment is that he's an idiot. He's not. He's very calculated, and plans his craftings quite well. I've yet to meet a filmmaker that is intelligent enough to manipulate words, images, or sequences to create the illusion he does. He doesn't stand behind his work as it being "true." Please refer to my earlier comment, which I'll stand firmly behind. "Michael Moore is not an idiot." Somehow, an idiot foolishly extrapolated that to mean I respect him. When a blanket statement is made suggesting he fabricates the truth, I'd like to hear a specific. Moore is a filmmaker. A damn good one. A brilliant filmmaker and artist. The problem is that his works are so filled with many, many truthful elements that people are disillusioned when there are false elements used to tie together truths.
-
Such as? _Specifically_, what has more fabricated out of nothing into whole cloth?
-
so does Fox, but theirs is in the guise of "news" and not documentary. Oh, and he does research to support is outrageous stretches of the truth rather than just supplying outright falsehoods with no foundation.
-
And having met, and listened to him speak on several occasions...you're right, IMO. He's no dummy.
-
Yeah but just imagine, Nick...you could start a whole new life over again. Figure out a way to collect on the insurance $$, live in the tropics, and enjoy being "dead."

Boast all you will, I own the pizza shop, and we have a stable of yaks in the back. Yakety-yak, y'all come back.

Another poster has it right; DO NOT attempt to wear headphones until you have an ass-load of jumps, are exceptionally current, AND have some additiona safety buffers. Here's the deal... ~I'm very current, and have over 1100 jumps in just over two years. ~I'm a musician, music is full-time, part of my life. I don't breathe well without music. ~I also have a degree in Audio Engineering. I know just a tad about how hearing, acoustics, and noisy environments work. I also work very closely with concert and live performance equipment on a regular basis, and have designed a breakaway system. ~Using an iPod or similar in freefall isn't just "something I decided to do." I spent a lot of time looking at various headphones, gadgets, and breakaway gear, not to mention testing a few gadgets and ideas. Talked to people that have been using music in freefall for decades (BTW, if you use your regular iPod in the aircraft or in freefall, it WILL ABSOLUTELY fail. The HDD can't handle the airpressure (lack of it). If not done right, the distraction of music, like a camera, can be fatal. Norman and Deanna Kent nearly died in a jump using music. It can really f$%! your awareness. My response to this question isn't one of "It's cool to fly with music." My response to this question is to point out that wearing an iPod isn't irresponsible, it's not dangerous, it can be a benefit IN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. Replies like some of the above are simply inappropriate; name-calling, derision, condescension are tools of the ignorant. You *can* make safe decisions about your skydiving and music. But...if you're planning on running to Walmart and buying noise-cancelling earphones or similar, then you're merely asking for trouble. Especially with fewer than 500 jumps. And no....I can't tell a low-number jumper about how to go about this, any more than I'd expect a high performance canopy instructor to teach me how to swoop at 50 jumps. Hopefully this answers your question. PM's won't get any more info from me either.

Those guys are super cool and much smarter than the rest of us. Therefore, they don't really need their sense of hearing to skydive safely, so it's okay. They don't need to hear their audible altimeter alerts, or the sound of other canopies nearby in the sky. It's all good. And while they're at it, they might as well also wear a blindfold, because they can just use "the force", like those Star Wars guys, instead of depending upon their vision. Long live the Jedi knight skydivers! Or, perhaps they only listen in one ear while riding to altitude... But that wouldn't make any room for sarcasm and judgement laden replies, would it? I think the idea of listening to anything while actually on a skydive is ridiculous, yet I've never heard of anyone actually doing it in real life, either. . Now you have. Nearly 400 jumps with em' in. It's possible to be responsible, attentive, and aware while wearing headphones. What's ridiculous is people that have never worn headphones on a jump or on a scubadive lecturing others about how bad it is. There are many types of headphones, multiple methods of being safe with them. There are several potential dangers. Like everything else in skydiving.

Nothing. Nothing exists. Nothing made that has a 30mm thread that has more than 400 lines of resolution, AFAIK.

2) It suffers serious flaring in certain circumstances 3) The 'Fader' options are basic indeed and none are suitable for use in a skydiving DVD. Just my view - it is great in every other respect I can think of. Best RedKite

The FX1000 is a consumer camera, FWIW. You talking to someone in Brian Young's office up thre?

DSE: Are you referring in comparison to just the other HD models in Sony's current range, or across the board? How would you rate the TG1 compared to the likes of the current HC52, or older PC series models? Dugy, Just take care of it, and you should be alright. It's not made in the "normal" Sony channels. In fact, i don't believe Sony's factories built this camera at all. Opening it up, handling it, seeing the image; It just doesn't have "Sony" on it. A few others have felt the same thing/way, but at the end of the day, it's just an opinion. I'm sure that if its protected, it'll survive.

hold one in your hand. It's pretty self-evident that this is built by a very different manufacturing line than the PC/HC/DV cams we're used to from Sony. There is a reason I haven't bought one. The encoder isn't anything to boast about, the quality of the lens is and it's made for the soccer mom to put in her purse. That's the target. It's not a BAD cam like say...a DGX. But it's not the quality you're used to from Sony. As far as debriefing and so forth, you have few fast options. The camera is designed to dump the footage to a 'puter, not to be used as a deck. The box, though it appears to be well-designed (and is for sure if it came thru Cookie), is still a hindrance, IMO. But it sure is lightweight.

Sinus Pressure while in the air... Second Tandem
DSE replied to ttoy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sometimes a non-drowsy anti-histamine takes it all away. Claritin works when I need something. No...the TI you had doesn't tell everybody that. -
Yeah, but old is new. History repeats.... Still reeling after sending my RD a couple of email and two snail mail requests, plus a few phone calls. There are so few on there worth salvaging...
