  1. Nothing to "flame on" about, except that you don't have Vegas configured correctly if you're ingesting, editing, and exporting AVCHD in CS4 at the same speed you're working in Vegas. Not possible, not if Vegas is correctly implemented. Vegas keeps MPEG in its native form throughout, while Premiere does a background internal process that slows it down. It's hooked into the HAL layer (which may someday have some hardware benefits that Vegas will never have), and it slows the process. CS4 is a *great* tool (although it is a bloated pig) and on either my MBP, G5, or PC workstations, it's appreciated, used every day. me...I love bootcamp, wish I could use parallels. I don't use wireless, so what you're experiencing isn't my experience. BTW, Premiere on Mac is grotesquely slower than on the PC side when dealing with AVCHD or any flavor of MPEG. go have a peek at the various editing forums out there including Adobe's own. Mac users are _not_ happy.
  2. Software app from Shedworx that allows a Mac to actually behave like an off-the-shelf PC when it comes to burning DVDs and Blu-ray http://www.shedworx.com/revolverhdmac Same people that make the fastest AVCHD converter for Mac...Although I prefer Cineform Neo over Voltaic.
  3. I have one Macbook (older one) still burning discs fast and furious. My newer one frequently locks discs out and requires a reboot while holding the Option key to get it to unlock on boot.... So...I'm half and half on the fence. Macbooks are hard to replace drives for. Externals are easy, and you prolly do have a Sata or firewire port just sitting there.
  4. DV and HDV are both in the 12.5 GB Per Hour range.... My recommendation is that you not attempt to use Parallels for your editing, it's just not fast enough. Scotty Burns finished this process only yesterday. He's a Macolyte too, and found Vegas so fast and easy, he's now got it on two different Macs running Bootcamp, and one running Parallels so he can COPY video over while processing in Lightroom, but he's not attempting to edit over both OS's. If you go tapeless, my best recommendation is to go with an enterprise-class external. Don't go cheap. I had the misfortune of one of my very important portable drives go down last week; very little backed up One of the guys from this forum has been helping me work towards recovery on a frozen platter. It was an elcheapo Maxtor with Seagate HDD in it. Congrats on the new NLE! Wait'll you see how fast you can go!
  5. I was present at Greensburg when they did a double amputee above the knee. Contact the folks there, they should be able to provide info?
  6. Nice profile in Parachutist! Now folks can see the man behind the lens of so many great shots seen in the magazine!
  7. areyou using Revolver or similar? Otherwise, whatcha gonna play that 1920 on?
  8. There's your sign. Seriously, iMovie *can* after a fashion, do 1920, but Apple defaults the export for MPEG to half. Export to another codec, or as a 1920 Quicktime movie and then you'll have to recompress again for 1920 DVD/BD output. It *ain't* fast. FCE is a little better.
  9. Busted for bad english by Glen. Damn. Howzabout "both?"
  10. There are no theoretical questions. If you can think of it, someone is going to, or has already tried/done it. In spite of thousands of experienced jumps saying "we recommend you not do this or that," the advice will be ignored, people will be at higher risk, and at some point, someone will be injured or worse. You want some of the most qualified advice in the world on jumping with tandems, follow the Mike McGowan school of thought. No one, no group, no organization has shot more tandems than Mike's. To my knowledge, there has never been an incident under his command.
  11. I use a modified version of the "famous" Jim Wallace bracket, same thing the PD boys used in the Grand Canyon for wingsuiting on the wall. Works well either inside or outside the WS, but I prefer it mounted inside.
  12. i did talk to Century, and they are in the process of litigating with Opteka. Opteka apparently (according to Century) violated their patents. Century did show a new semi-low profile .5 (I'd sort of alluded to this earlier) that I'll post photos of later today (between loads, gotta jam).
  13. http://tinyurl.com/svpcc This only works in Sony Vegas, but it's an amazingly powerful, yet simple color correction tool that works like the color grades in Photoshop.
  14. I don't think it took much effort, and "Mission accomplished."
  15. Any general theatrical store will carry gaffers tape in a variety of widths, sometimes as narrow as .5" and as wide as 6". Cheaper there, too. I buy mine from General Theatrical in SLC, but there are many resellers. Just don't use duct tape.
  16. In the case of Dan Kulpa's fatality in Sebastian, Florida, on January 2, 2009, the FAA has yet to release a report, although they said the won't be investigating any further. The ME took over a month to release the report. The police department closed the case with a pending filing that awaited the ME report. None of the reports mention Dan's coach nor in-air buddies by name, none of them mention his canopy, state of mind, rig, nor even wingsuit by name/model. All of those fundamentals are found (albeit ridiculously argued) in the Incidents forum. Sure, people get things wrong in there. It's not the moderators job to make it right, it's their job to keep the conversation from looping and to keep irrelevancy out of the discussion. There is one person from your home DZ for instance, that contaced the USPA claiming I was the instructor. Another person claimed that Dan had been smoking weed moments before the jump. Both not true, both easily refuted, but speculation around a not-easily explained fatality is to be expected and to a limited degree, welcomed. Eventually, once the ME's report was filed, the correct information was posted. As far as the son doing a skydive a week after his dad's death; that sort of thing is exceptionally common.
  17. Oops, i forgot that there might be some other camera brand in the air!
  18. HypEye already has one, the Mini. There is a LANC version or a D plug version. No controls, just a light. The 10 pin is well documented, Laszlo makes an adapter for the CamEye, and Extreeme Recall in Nevada makes one too. HypEye is the lowest cost, IIRC.

    24 hours remain

A-I didn't say the world is about to end. B-I should have known better than to expect a serious answer. C-the project is for Children's Miracle Network. Jim, the song you heard is from Nickelback's latest album, and is what inspired this particular producer to want to do this project. So many of the people involved in this project are aware of their limited time left, the question is posed to show the contrast between those that actually face this decision vs those that don't.

    24 hours remain

If today were your last day and you knew in advance that your life had only 24 hours remaining, what would you do? Who would you do it with? Budget should not be a consideration, but reality is. Fly to Japan and view Kilimanjaro with your five best friends would fall under "reality." Getting a blowjob from Jennifer Aniston likely isn't. This is research for a documentary piece. The question was asked of academics and answers (interestingly enough) ranged from "making love to my spouse all day" to "I'd kill my ex and then beat the clock." I realize serious answers in Bonfire are as rare as gourmet meals in a mall...but your input would be appreciated.
  21. you may or may not have a point in all of this, but the point is entirely obscured in rhetoric, coded wordplay, insults, gest, and lack of cohesion. *If* the FAA, USPA, and skydivers in general are as dumb as you assert, clear and clean language are likely to communicate your concerns much better than using (by your own admission) "insider talk that no one but a 'Nam grunt understands." I read about half of the volumnous 'information' you sent and grasped the position of the USPA within the first two pages.
  22. it's still too early for coffee. I'm entertaining thoughts of falling right back into bed. Sorry Jarno, that which you left behind is long gone. So yeah...It's just orange juice
  23. I just spewed orange juice on my monitor. Nice job, Andreea!
  24. Understand that unlike firewire, there is no guarantee that USB2 will correctly capture video without dropping frames or other issues. Firewire has a dedicated bus. USB2 shares.
