Size does matter, just ask any pro....but there is a point of diminishing returns. This week, I attended a course taught by Canon for film pros, regarding using the 5mkII and was suitably impressed. My friends at RedRock Micro won an award for a film one of their guys made using the 5D, and the prototype RRM tools for mounting the 5D. Scotty Burns and Trunk were here to see some of the very cool filmmaking accessories for the 5MKII, and RED was red in the face for the 5D and their current vaporware known as Scarlet. For video, there are some significant challenges with the 5MKII, but they're beatable in post if you're willing to take the time. It's a high end perspective to be sure, and I'd never consider this cam for shooting video tandem. But... Canon also lifted their skirts just a little bit in the filmmakers gathering, and I'm pretty excited about what's coming down the pike. So... I have a 40D and a 5D, but wish I hadn't bought the 5. Very content to wait until January for what's new, but if I needed a camera for tandems right now, today...I'd buy a 50d or a used 40.

Am I missing something? Will this pay if I die Skydiving?
DSE replied to Mazz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't you suppose making your first jump might help determine if you should be worrying about dying as a skydiver? -
Wasn't aware of this, Phree, thanks for sharing. I've got quite a few unopened HD DVD discs...

Yes, it does. Vegas Pro 8/9 comes in two confgurations; one takes advantage of the 64bit environment, the other merely functions in the 64 bit environment as though it was a 32bit environment.

We upload YouTube/Vimeo/Google straight from the timeline, no "popping in DVD" or naming the file, The file may have metadata embedded in it (mpeg2 doesn't) that aids in the searching for data on the web, even after it's converted to Flash. Our workflow is that it's being uploaded to YouTube (or wherever) during the burn to DVD. But...it's manual, and no way to easily direct student to Youtube stream, so we copy their video to our website using Youtube's code. That *can* be automated, but we've not taken the time to do it. Plus, it still doesn't resolve the automatic direction to the stream. We have to email the URL to the student, and that's also a manual process.

I can see how it's easier, somewhat. I can't see at all how it's faster. Can you elaborate on that point?

I'm clueless as to what you're referring to. Microsoft has nothing to do with widescreen formats whether they be 1.1:85, 1.212, 2:39 or any other wide format. 21:9 is old school, going back to the 50's before Bill Gates was out of diapers.... Variants of 21:9 date back to 1890 (yes, that's right, late 1800's). Panoramico dates to the very early 1900's if memory serves...Widevision was around 1930. 16:9 works fine in most circumstances. Not everything broadcast or on Blu-ray will fill a screen. Windowboxing, letterboxing, pillarboxing are going to be around for quite a while, if everything is to be seen at it's native aspect without cropping, panning, or stretching. There are simply too many formats.

trying. Can't find a flight out of Brisbane to get me to Seattle easily...

even in Easy mode? Vimeo will allow you to upload, or you can put it on Yousendit.com so others can download. Shorter is better. FWIW, if its larger than 100MB, I won't download it.

Windows movie maker cannot export a quality MPEG 2 file. It's that simple. You cannot make it work. Cold, huh? When you get Platinum, this becomes easy. The import of DV media is always the same with WMM...it's a DV avi file. Always. It's the export that'll kill you...The encoder in WMM is worse than terrible. It's free....and it's worth exactly what you paid for it. Micro$oft should be ashamed of themselves, they're members of MPEG. Movie Studio will give you a very high end professional DVD output.

Here are a couple. Other search terms turned up several. Please. read the thread, even if you skim it. I'm not sure anything new can be added about the CX100.

WinMorph, Fantamorph are both designed to work with Intraframe codecs (ie; DV) and not interframe codecs (ie; MPEG). Afaik, there are not any free morphing tools for MPEG. There are several that you can buy. Satish hasn't updated Winmorph in several years.

there are over 500 posts on subjects related to this camera....including freeflying. Please read them? There is no "optimum lens" (for any discipline). But you'll see where most people prefer the low profile of the Century.
-
Side mount for most freeflyers Wide angle lens, a .3 is used for most inside vid, or the .5 for outside. The .55 Century is inexpensive but high resolution. HypEye is best way, yes. But you can remove from helmet, turn on, hit record, put LCD back in place, close helmet, jump, open helmet after landing, stop record, turn off....or you can use a HypEye to turn on, record, stop record, turn off. For what the HypEye controller (or any other compatible controller) can do...the price is miniscule, IMO. Cookie, Tonfly, and Bonehead all offer a box for the CX100. I think they're all good boxes, but I haven't seen the Bonehead yet.

Ouch. I feel for you. We just recently had this conversation. Most photoshops will carry this stepdown ring, and they can be found on eBay for a couple of bucks, but they come from overseas. I bought a dozen for around 35.00 HERE are a couple..

Very cool! Which suit did you use? What Denis said; worry about flying first, length of freefall and speed will come right behind. Hope to flock with you one day!

Philips is about to begin shipping their newest 21:9 displays. This is one of the most impressive pieces of work I've ever seen for home television marketing. http://www.cinema.philips.com/?ls=gb_en For those who haven't seen his work, this is similar to some of what Jarno does.

I'd let Gio know ASAP, I'm sure he'd be unhappy if he saw that too. Tonfly has excellent customer service in my experience. They even followed up with a friend to be sure he got his helmet on time, they'd shipped it to a DZ that he was heading to.

My booth (VASST) is next to Sony in Central Hall. I'm a trainer in the Post Production World Conference, and can be found in N261/N259 most of the time. I'm rarely on the floor of the show. I'm presenting in the main Sony booth twice a day as well. Be sure you're at the VASST party on Monday night, register at www.thefullhd.com if you aren't. Eclectic Method is playing, with Charley Boswell and myself keynoting.

How many jumps to get current enough for a wingsuit?
DSE replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Read the forum better; I have. Privately and publically. Two of the three recent fatalities were taught by friends who hopefully won't repeat their mistake. I've also publically castigated myself for having taken out someone at 160 jumps and he had a cutaway. I learned in one. And won't repeat the mistake. Several "name" instructors have, and continue to take students before they've got the experience and/or numbers. I'm aware of at least two that are responsible for putting students in situations where the student has been broken. IMO, The "instructor/coach" bears some responsibility in those situations. Just as I bear some responsibility in the challenges my pre-200 jump "student" faced. It's hilarious to read newsletters from one BMCI who implores that BMI's "follow the rules" even as he takes someone out with only 80 jumps. "Do as I say, not as I do." Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" comes to mind... Someone didn't get out of bed one day and decide that 200 jumps was a good number. Discussions of why 200 jumps for many skydiving activities can be found all over DZ.com. C'mon, that was too easy. You can do better than that, can't you? It's great that *you* were able to break the rules and get away with it. Not everyone is going to be so fortunate. If obeying the rules saves even one life, it's worth it, IMO. It's cool that Skittles is seeking coaching from those that have jumped with him. He may well not be ready for a wingsuit again in 10, 20, 30 jumps. But I'm certain his desire won't diminish. -
here already. With you and Scotty in town, I expect the big Cerveza bottle infront of the LVCC to be empty by nightfall.

How many jumps to get current enough for a wingsuit?
DSE replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Wing Suit Flying
We agree on something. You have consistently advocated the theory that jumping with a wingsuit is largely unrelated to experience and predominantly related to skills, even as you were wingsuiting well before the accepted minimums. The numbers aren't arbitrary, and they're statistically accurate for the various disciplines. Why do you think you can't competitively swoop at 200 jumps? Rationalize away, statistics and common sense are not on your side. Is it curious that a blog post 48 hours before his accident commented that he was heading for an incident?... Sometimes, one can see it coming. It's even easier when you've jumped with someone. Does that chip on your shoulder affect your field of view or merely weigh you down? -
How many jumps to get current enough for a wingsuit?
DSE replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I'd recommend listening to this recommendation. After all, it's not about numbers it's about skills ... It's a strange thing; with numbers come experience. With experience comes skill. Skill with experience brings wisdom, usually. Fortunately, Skittles is wise enough to seek the answers rather than brag and claim "skills." There is a lot more to his story than you know, but it's his story to share. You're still in my book of heroes, Skittles! I'd take Kallend up on his offer! -
How many jumps to get current enough for a wingsuit?
DSE replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Skittles, having seen you fly...I'd spend quite a few jumps tracking. I don't know how many. At least 10. My suggestion is to spend the next X skydives doing mock wingsuit jumps compete with exit count and tracking, just to get you to a stable tracking position. Then take a coach/highly experienced wingsuit person out to observe you. Hear what they have to offer when you get down. I'd recommend counting on their observation more than I'd recommend counting jumps. Welcome back!
