is that a radio on her chest strap? The second pic is terrific. Love seeing that smile on students.

A low-timer (who didn't follow instructions and left the aircraft too soon) met a very experienced wingsuiter. Someone without experience nearly took out an unsuspecting person.

other than the exposure, that's a really nice piece of footage. Video has limit points, and highly compressed AVC footage makes superwhites appear to be blown out/clipped. The plastic hang tag in the video is white, but it's blown and bleeds, and when the sun hits the parrots belly, it blows it as well. In a photographic setting, you could probably get away with it. In video, the compression amplifies any exposure issues. In other words, under expose a bit. If you're in the curve, underexposure can easily be dealt with in post. Over exposure of course...cannot be dealt with at all. The details are gone. wish I had something that saturated in my trees.

I think Chuck was borned all growed up.

Looks very nice, Costyn. Did you shoot this in 720p or 1080p? Couldn't tell from the vimeo. There is a fragment of jelloing when the motion gets intense, but it looks great. I haven't rec'd my RRS mount for the 7D yet, so I'm not able to jump it without major mods. I have shot a lot of video with it, however. Keeping the shutterspeed low helps a lot, so on the ground, TV vs AV is a good way to shoot when you can't control the exposure.

Well..there are LOTS of websites regarding shutterspeed, DOF, and apertures for still photography, and for the most part, those same things apply to doing video with a still camera. If you can wait about a month, VASST have a training DVD on shooting video with a DSLR coming. http://members.shaw.ca/ocl3/technical1.html has some great illustrations for showing the DOF. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fototech/htmls/depth.html has some good shutter speed/aperture information. Easy thing to remember is the higher the value/number of the f-stop, the higher the depth of field. The lower the number, the lesser/shallower the DOF. A lens that is "fast" has a wide aperture potential. Anything larger than a 2.0 is considered "fast." Bear in mind that with *most* zoom lenses, your aperture decreases as you zoom in, which is why you see zoom lenses that say "f4-f5.6 on the barrel. The aperture size is determined by the depth of zoom applied. HTH?

Just got a NEOXs Audible... anyone have one??

I have used, and keep it around for wingsuit students. However, it's not within reach ATM. I'm not remembering the setting nomenclature. I'll be back near my gear tomorrow, I'll dig it out. Are you not able to set it to work based on the guide? 3 clicks to unlock the toggle/menus....from there it was pretty self-explanatory to me. -
Ahh...photo every two...I don't believe there is an accurate means of syncing them without some sort of external triggering device. Trunk has ripped into them, maybe he's got some concept of how to simu-start them via the USB port, but I don't know that the system allows for this.

Menu/General/Camera settings "Power off by LCD" set to off.

The easiest way to sync a non-genlocked system is to CLAP loudly with both running. The audio spike that you'll see in the NLE will sync them perfectly. for long shots (like...20 mins) you'll have a single frame drift, but that's no big thing. Clocks are different on all of these, but again...single frame over time? No big deal.

if the lens leaks, you'll get fog in there. These shouldn't leak, but they do sometimes. They're pretty low-grade lenses in comparision to the "rest" of the optical world. You can try sealing the lens at the threads with some nose oil, but that usually won't work. There is a seal in the front of the lens that is very thin. Not much help, but hopefully it explains the issue a little. Putting a hair dryer on it will clear it, but if there is any spotting inside from the condensate, it'll leave a spot that you can't get rid of. Letting it air dry is best, I think.

Pinnacle 14 will edit AVC files natively, so if it's what you like, might as well keep using it.

you say you're changing your arm position, but to what? You're kinda lanky and thin...where are your arms? The coaches should be able to help you find a position that works for stable freefall without backsliding, but as Dave mentioned; video would be a huge help. Having someone at the side/level 90 degrees as you're falling next to a stable base would also provide a good point of reference.

Minimum Requirements with Go Pro versus big camera
DSE replied to marcantonio152's topic in Photography and Video
I guess that would depend on what kind of glasses you wear. When someone hooks themselves into the ground (or goes low trying to get "the shot"), they've likely learned something from their experience. You can learn either from their experience or decide you'd prefer to hook yourself into the ground so as better understand why they've arrived at their opinion. Learning from the mistakes of others is generally less painful. -
An SOS attempt at Elsinore a few weeks back...

Sad I only saw the landing...Damn Delta for late arrival. Congrats, kiddo! It's been a lot of fun watching you climb the ladder. Gonna miss seeing that smile every weekend! BTW, the pilot likes it when you do the undie jumps...

He was a huge person, although a very short/thin man. He always had a "happy buzz" on. He gave as much as anyone in the biz, if not more than most. He always got a chuckle out of being known for the "guy that gave metal the devil's horns." Sad day.

Thick band-aids work well, so does a bit of moleskin. We use moleskin to tape lav's on bodies for live outdoor interviews when a mike mouse can't be used.

Better question is how would they identify his citizenship . . . right? That answer is easy. I guess I'm not very smart because the answer isn't obvious to me. The last time he was arrested for public intox just outside of PHX, he had no ID of any kind. His story isn't terribly unique. This means that his ID is on file. This means his last arrest was on file. Here's the problem; he's arrested simply because of his skin color and lack of ID. Who knows how long it'll take the system to sort out who he is? Or if anyone will even try.

Man...Quicktime screws up so many things. I keep an old version of QT Pro on hand just because it always works. Seems like for every iTunes update, something on the video side breaks. I don't have a Contour to test with, but I do have some footage. I'll toss it on and see what it does. Sony uses the Main Concept decoder for their AVCHD and AVC decodes (same as Adobe and Avid) and it had some serious hiccups for a while. That's why you're seeing 9e hot on the tails of 9d.

Been pretty cool watching you guys come up and bust it out, Steve. Thanks again for coming and helping with the wingsuit water experiment. I think that's what makes S'nore so great; so many people willing to give their time, knowledge, and energy to helping others. It's a "pay it forward" DZ.

I have a brother who spends a good deal of his time face down on couches, streets, where ever. The last time he was arrested for public intox just outside of PHX, he had no ID of any kind. His story isn't terribly unique. He's dark skinned, speaks English with an accent, has no papers, and several family members have no phones. So...where do they send him? While you're bangin' out those responses, realize that indigenous people were not citizens of this country until 1924(?) and didn't have the right to vote until 1948. The US doesn't have a great track record when it comes to race relations. That said, I also fully understand why Arizona is desperate to do something (although I can't agree with this legislation) must be done. If you think that the crime in Perris or similar areas is bad.... The cost of housing, feeding, processing, investigating, maintaining the overwhelmingly Latin number of criminals is a monstrous burden on the citizens of Arizona. They need to find a different answer, IMO.
-
Actually, indigenous/Native/Aboriginal/American Indian people are required not only by the Bureau of Indian Affairs to carry pedigree/enrollment cards, but several nations require that the card be "accessible" for services. But heck...Native people finally were allowed to vote in 1948... this legislation is a huge deal for Native people that don't have tribal ID, drivers licenses, or other papers due to a variety of circumstances. There is an irony in the possibility of a Native American being deported to....where?

For those running Vegas PRO 9, they released an update for 9 today. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegaspro it contains a new kernal for AVCHD decodes that also has some benefit for those that are experiencing some issues with GoPro footage and playback speeds.
