SLC is no longer mostly Mormon. there is a LOT to do. Tunnel, world-famous Point of the Mountain for paragliding, hanggliding. Lots of slopes for speedflying, two very nice DZ's (plug for Skydive Utah here), Solomon Centre in Ogden, if you want to escape the cold in the winter you can drive 5 hours south and be in the warm desert, drive 6 hours south and be in Vegas. Moab is very close. Lots of mountain biking, climbing. If you're into BASE there are a lot of exits here. There are lotsa bars, but you need a membership to clubs if you want mixed drinks. The only place you'd struggle, IMO, is in places like Provo/Orem and a few small towns. Low cost living, lots to do, good skydiving crowd, lots of fun people here.

And then you'd just have the annoyances of a Mac (I use both daily).

The Square One store at Elsinore had some. Dunno if they still do. Give Purple P a call...

Pro's and Con's Ohio vs. California DZ's
DSE replied to jump2live's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ed is very thorough, very knowledgeable. If he makes an Alicense jumper out of you, you'll know everything you need to know, and more than a lot of 25 jump skydivers. -
Intro is a great suit for getting started, IMO (I own 6 of em') but for continuing the learning curve (and for getting started) the Phantom2 is the better option, IMO. It's a suit with a lot of range, and at your height/weight ratio, you'd do well with it, IMO.

Drift Innovation HD170 - New Competitor to the GoPro
DSE replied to aardvarkeater's topic in Photography and Video
I've emailed Drift Innovation for a 30 day review unit. Thus far, no response. I've also emailed asking for the bitrate of their video encode. Thus far, no response. It appears to be AVC, but I'd sure like to see what it is, first. -
Most of us wouldn't mind.... K, so if you've uninstalled, but still have pieces, you can manually go after every hidden and unhidden folder, or you can use a tool like Revo http://www.revouninstaller.com/ I think they have a demo/timed version. You can also uninstall any apps you don't want first, then run a tool like Revo. Go to Start/Run and in the Run dialog, type "%temp%" (less the quotes). Delete all files that come up. That'll prolly help.

Adobe what? Bridge? Acrobat? Pshop? You can run uninstall kleenup tools. Knowing which Adobe product might help me help you clean it out. Adobe does leave a lot of mouse-droppings, especially if it's one of their suites.

I think he meant increasing wingloading. You're right. That's what happens when you're saying something to someone and writing to someone else.

F@uck the hugs, let's just give em' stroopswafels AND beer. Love messed up their wingloading. -
Unfortunately, I don't know much about their upgrade process. I know that if you bought X within 45 days of the release of XX, they give customers a free upgrade. That's the extent of my upgrade knowledge. Plamer, MovieStudio products don't work with any of the scripting or macro plugins for Vegas. That's a pro-only feature.

thank you for sharing that. seeing it in that way gives a new perspective.

Bob, scrubbing is a way to move the playhead (often called the timeline cursor or CTI/Current Timeline Indicator) around the timeline using the mouse or JKL keys (and sometimes a hardware device like a Shuttle Pro), and have audio playing at whatever speed you're moving that playhead around the timeline. Even with pictures, we're still predominantly aural animals, so sound becomes the (usually) better foundation for cutting video.
-
I'd suggest it's the computer. Vegas has multiple ways of scrubbing because it's an NLE *and* a DAW, so it makes a bit of difference. CTRL+Playhead is for crap, but necessary for audio cats. It frustrates most video guys. Audio guys don't know JKL w/audio. And...Vegas has scalable preview. If you're in anything but Preview/Auto, it can bog you down when dealing with highly compressed formats like the MP4 of the Contour and GoPro. FWIW, my big-ass work system has no issues scrubbing with sub-frame accuracy. My MacBook Pro, now long in the tooth at 1.83, stutters unless I'm in draft mode. When you use ProRes, you're using the codec most optimal for the app, so it makes things "seem" better, when it's forcing the media to the rule, rather than the rule to the media. And there is always a loss in quality when you transcode. Don't let Apple or anyone else fool ya with anything different. Even when going to uncompressed 4:4:4.

I'd recommend doing your refresher on rental gear, something larger. Since it's been a while, being conservative is good. Since it's been a while, it's not the time to be reducing wingloading, even if it is somewhat similar to your past wingloading. Congrats on the weight loss! Looking forward to hearing how your re-currency jump goes.

Not to take the thread on a tangent, but the above isn't so. FCP cannot go more deeply than single frame accuracy. Vegas goes to 1/1000 of a frame, or sample level.

I like the fact that they're taking the time to give back to the community, taking the time to make videos, and thinking about what people need to know and then showing it. All of that takes dedication and effort that is more or less selfless. -
Raynox HD-3035 Semi Fisheye - Grainy Quality?

Grainy and blurry are two different things, so I'm not sure which we're talking about? -
Council Delegate GloJean Todacheene (Shiprock) “Bilagaanas (white people) forget they created a nation of immigrants – they invaded us and yet now they do not like it because America is becoming more brown or of an ethnic mix. Navajo Nation Council press statement www.navajonationcouncil.org Council overrides President Shirley’s veto, passes measures opposing the state of Arizona’s immigration, ethnic studies bills WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – The 21st Navajo Nation Council passed several pieces of legislation today during its 2010 Spring Special Session at the Navajo Nation Council Chamber. The Navajo Nation Council narrowly passed two pieces of legislation (Legislation No. 0297-10 and Legislation No. 0302-10), which were sponsored by Council Delegate Kee Allen Begay (Many Farms/Rough Rock) opposing the state of Arizona’s immigration and ethnic studies bills (Senate Bill 1070 and House Bill 2281). In effort to address the immigration bill, Council Delegate Begay sponsored Legislation No. 0297-10, which opposes Senate Bill 1070 for unlawfully infringing on the constitutional, civil, and human rights of indigenous peoples in the state of Arizona. The measure passed the Council floor, 30-24. “In a way, the immigration bill is an attempt to harass Native Americans,” Begay said. “When we are pulled over or stopped we are usually pulled over and asked for our IDs. Sometimes we do not carry those things and perhaps at that time we will have difficulty proving we are Native American. This legislation is a stance for the protection of Native Americans in Arizona.” Begay also cited a study conducted by the University of Cincinnati Policing Institute, which was prepared for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, that Native Americans were the most likely to be arrested at a rate of 4.5 percent compared to Blacks who were arrested at a rate of 3.2 percent, Hispanics at a rate of 2.9 percent and Whites at a rate of 1.6 percent. Begay said this study strongly indicates the need to oppose the immigration bill because of infringement of constitutional, civil and human rights. Leonard Gorman, executive director for the Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission, agreed. “A police officer can stop and detain an individual for violating an existing law and if a law enforcement officer has reasonable suspicion that person who got pulled over will be asked for documentation,” Gorman said. “Once you are arrested you are going through the immigration process. It will not work. It will clog up the immigration system.” Legislation No. 0302-10 opposing Arizona House Bill 2281 for restricting ethnic studies in Arizona elementary and secondary schools also passed the Council floor, 45-2. Council Delegate GloJean Todacheene (Shiprock) commended Council Delegate Begay on his legislation action efforts and said, “Bilagaanas (white people) forget they created a nation of immigrants – they invaded us and yet now they do not like it because America is becoming more brown or of an ethnic mix. The pendulum of civil rights can swing back and forth at anytime. I commend Kee Allen for his efforts.” Read press release from Navajo Nation Council: http://www.navajo.org/News%20Releases/Joshua%20Lavar%20Butler/June10/100609_Council_overrides_President%27s_veto.pdf

FlyLikeBrick - Flight Manual #8 - Recovery Techniques

Sweet to see some flying examples of this. I've got a couple videos of Nebelkopf getting out of intentional flatspins in Sebastian, but I'm too far away for them to be of any educational use. -
Raynox HD-3035 Semi Fisheye - Grainy Quality?
DSE replied to Seven7Five's topic in Photography and Video
Clean the lens back? Perhaps you're shooting in different lighting? "Grain" is a characteristic of the imager and camera processing as opposed to the glass. The Raynox 3035 is a very clean lens, albeit that it has some edge distortion (so do most of the low cost lenses). -
Yes, I know what "SLR" means. My angle earlier is that I don't consider medium and large format cameras in the context of the discussion we were having. You're right, the Leica S2's (which I didn't know had a dual shutter system til your post) are in the same format category that we're discussing. Thanks for the info! I learned something new this morning.

I didn't miss his point at all. But...absent a more intelligent answer the BSR was the next best thing. Nevertheless, my earlier post is a direct quote from the letter to Parachutist.

I'm not saying Ray Ferrell is full of BS, but in his May letter to the editor at Parachutist, he says "A properly rated instructor could safely teach someone to jump a wingsuit on his first jump." I would tend to disagree (just a little bit)with that statement.
