  1. Not according to the OP or Ray Ferrell, no...
  2. An XS, Stealth2, or similar should be used for student wingsuiters. These have the slowest fallrate and will make less of a crater. No different than canopies. Start em' as big as you can for as long as you can, downsize as experience dictates.
  3. Wow! Didn't know that. I guess I don't consider medium and large format digital cameras as "DSLR's" but if there are small format DSLR's that have leaf shutters, that's news to me. Which one(s)?
  4. OUCH!!! Might wanna drop a note to Giovanni, send him some pictures, and ask him for his thoughts. Maybe Tonfly themselves can help you.
  5. Right now, 4-7 mins. Depends on the person editing and their load. Can go a tad faster, but then it becomes a risk of rushing. The DVD has a custom menu with their name and a bumper/teaser piece that says more about the DZ on it.
  6. I have photos, but they're for an upcoming magazine article. Skydive Elsinore is being featured in both DVMagazine and EVENTDV magazine because of their ridiculously fast output of videos and handing them off to customers on a DVD. Ric, Angie, Lob have done an incredible job. BTW, Jumptown is also being featured in those magazine articles, but their editing space isn't nearly as sexy as the one at S'nore. S'nore painted the room with broadcast grey for color balance and to reduce stress on the editor's eyes, they put in properly tinted lighting, nice desks, and OMG FASST! editing machines with regular DVD and Blu-ray DVD burners. Plus they're delivering video to YouTube and other sources as additional revenue streams. And...they have a couple other sweet tricks up their sleeve for the near future.
  7. The Elsinore thing is pretty cool, IMO. USPA elected to not have USPA-branded/advertising in the Sony boxes, but you know how the folks at S'nore are about marketing... pretty visionary. Imagine having your DZ's name and video in front of half a million people.... As a side note, 100% of the training in the Vegas box was shot, edited, produced at Elsinore but you'd never know it from the small set we created. That new video room is pretty damn cool. One of the nicest suites I've been in that isn't a broadcast house.
  8. We are hosting: June 25/26 USPA Coach Course July 6/7 Phoenix Fly Coach Course July 9, 10, 11 Wingsuits Over Utah
  9. The Platinum HD pack is probably the best option of the three levels available, as it comes with a lot of tools and extras. Not only are a lot of skydivers using Vegas, but their newest version includes a training DVD that is entirely *about* Skydiving. Skydive Elsinore saw a tremendous potential in their name being in every Sony Vegas Movie Studio box, so they provided content for the in-box training DVD. Everytime someone sits down to learn to edit in Vegas, they'll be learning while looking at skydiving content. Hopefully that will entice more people to want to skydive.
  10. Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9. Now is a good time to buy it because I heard a rumor a new version is coming.
  11. Please don't crawl back under a rock. The light is better out here. You'd be surprised at how many people confuse leaf vs plane shutters. I made the same assumption when DSLR first arrived. Neither is needed, but the plane shutter does help keep dust off the imager, and of course, helps pre-compose the frame.
  12. Not for me to comment on what changes there may be, but you aren't presenting anywhere near the accurate nor complete picture. Elsinore is still a very high quality dropzone with a lot of very experienced people in their tandem, AFFI, and coaching staff. I smell an agenda, particularly with a first post.
  13. DSLR's do have shutters. They're not necessary, but are indeed part of the camera. Perhaps you are thinking of the leaf shutter, as opposed to the plane shutter? DSLR's don't have leaf shutters.
  14. CPU/transfer bus are what get hot. Most of the file-based camcorders have some heat issues of one sort or another.
  15. I'd have been on that list once.... Something tells me that once Sangi starts jumping again, he'll have a different outlook. Otherwise, someone will likely be winning a sammich and beer.
  16. That is correct! Unfortunately, what you're not getting is that BSR's are set up as a "minimum" standard. Not everyone is the same – that’s absolutely true. I’ve been in this sport since before you were born, but, there are 20 year olds who can fly circles around me. Just because you have 200 jumps, doesn’t mean you’re ready for a camera!!! At 200 jumps you’re ready to start working with an experienced camera flyer
  17. This is a valid point. Yet he didn't die and now he can learn from than, mount it on his head and continue. I would suggest that learning to track properly is a priority over putting a camera on one's head (or foot). More to the point, if a basic safety issue like this isn't obvious, one has to wonder about what other obvious safety issues are being missed? One jump...two issues. A chain of three issues can be found in most incidents.
  18. No, Sangi, a bit of legstrap excess isn't likely going to kill anyone. It might flap the rest of the strap loose and make for a painful opening, however. That said, the camera mounted on the right foot (same side as he pitches) may well kill him (and potentially someone else). Anyone who has much time in skydiving knows you don't want something on that side. A PC can *easily* wrap around a foot mount on the right side. Any experienced camera flyer (or experienced skydiver) should be able to point this out immediately.

    water landings

Actually, there are people that have had these emergency landings, fully zipped. I've had email conversations with five people (one of them Robi of PF) about their emergency landings. They've just chosen to avoid the thread.
  20. excellent work. Love the post stuff too!
  21. never active. Standard or None. Active is aggressive as heck.
  22. Format the card in the camera, and all files should log/transfer correctly. Each time you reformat, all of the AVCHD cams rebuild the directory structure.
  23. Nope, and I'll bet you haven't either. I have had my vehicle pelted with pieces of broken concrete from Muslims because we were there to shoot video for a non-partisan investigatory group. I have never been brought to Israel by any Jewish organization, and I am not Jewish. Nor do I follow the Jewish culture or religion. I do recognize their right to exist. To paint Israel as the aggressor in their fight to exist is ignorance. I have seen (from US sources, not Jewish sources) several clips showing IDF demonstrating incredible restraint against Hamas terrorists due to the potential of collateral damage. Bottom line from my perspective; -Islam is a culture that is sworn to eradicate Jews and all non Muslims. -Islam has taken steps to affect and perpetuate the above on multiple occasions and threatents to take it to a greater scale. -I'm not Muslim.
  24. Not at all a fair nor accurate comparison. The Protectionist Principle is valid, IMO. I've stood in the rocket craters (fresh) from Hamas rockets. I've seen first hand, the cowardly Hamas attacks that use women and children as part of their game. I've filmed in the tunnels Hamas has dug under the border. I believe Israel has a right to extend protections for themselves. The US did much the same thing when Russia put nukes in Cuba. The US protected their interests even in the threat of full-scale nuclear war. If we knew for certain that the Iranians were transporting a small nuclear device into international waters with the intent of killing Americans, we'd stop that ship. One way or another, but certainly not with paintball guns. Israel has a right to exist. Hamas doesn't agree and is pledged to drive the Israeli's into the sea (killing all Jews). It's really that simple. What's the difference between Hitler and Hamas? Strategy. But we say all the time that the Jews should have answered the Nazi knock with a gun. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/i-want-to-be-a-shahid-flotilla-activist-hoped-for-martyrdom-1.293953 This is scary. This guy has tried twice to be a martyr, joined the flotilla hoping to die in the name of Allah while helping to kill Jews. There are people out there that believe that trading Israel off to the Muslim world would create a point of peace with Islam. This simply isn't so. Islam has targets well beyond their hopes of wiping Israel off the map.
