Something kept me away from the DZ this holiday weekend, and I didn't know what it was until reading about all of the horrible accidents this morning. I can't explain it, but I could just not bring myself to go - and since I started (recently) jumping, I am always thinking about it, and ready for the short drive to the DZ. A weekend like this gives me pause. Even though I didn't 'know' anyone who had trouble this weekend, outside of maybe reading/responding to a few of their posts here, it does make an accident hit closer to home. Condolences to those who lost someone, and Blue Skies to the departed. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Tell your boss one of the cars has a flat and you need the keys to the Hertz Donut. To which he replies : What the hell is a Hertz Donut? Then punch him in the face and say "Hurts, don't it?" Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -

As I said in another thread, rescues on 8000 meter peaks are not impossible. 'Dead' Everest climber 'is alive' Dozens of people have perished attempting to scale Everest An Australian man believed to have died as he descended Mount Everest has been found alive. Lincoln Hall, 50, was presumed to have died on Thursday when he was left behind by his Sherpas after he started hallucinating and refusing to move. But another climber found Mr Hall still alive on Friday, triggering a large-scale rescue effort. Duncan Chessell, whose company DCXL is helping in the rescue, said Mr Hall remained in "grave danger". "It's going to be a miracle if he can get out of it. He is in bad shape," he said. The incident came amid continuing controversy over whether a New Zealand climber, Mark Inglis, was right to leave behind British climber David Sharp, who died on Mount Everest earlier this month. Tea and oxygen Mr Hall, an experienced climber, reached the summit of Everest on Thursday. Another member of the climb, German Thomas Weber, died shortly before reaching the summit, according to a statement issued by expedition leader Alexander Abramov. Mr Hall became weak as he and two Sherpas descended, and then became incoherent and semi-conscious, according to Mr Chessell, who had been informed of events by radio. The Sherpas tried to move Mr Hall down the mountain, but after several hours' effort and running out of oxygen, they were told by their expedition leader to leave him behind, Mr Chessell said, speaking in Australia. Mr Abramov's statement said Mr Hall had died as he descended. But on Friday, an American climber - Dan Mazur - came across Mr Hall and found he had survived the night, at more than 8,000m (24,000ft) and was still alive. After giving him hot tea and oxygen, a radio call was made to Mr Abramov, who ordered an urgent rescue mission. Mr Chessell warned that it was too early to say if the rescue would be successful. "It's a big risk for them to go up there. It will take at least three days to get him back to safety," he said. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Physically and logistically yes, technically, no. Seneca is a small mountain, but it is dead vertical. Everest is mostly a steep hike, for a month, in the snow. (the standard route, anyway) -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Also try "The White Spider" - about the first successful ascent of the Eigerwand. It may have been impossible to save the climber, but did anyone even attempt to get him to his feet and moving down? After everyone had summitted, who was the last person to walk by this dying man, and was he conscious? There have been people brought down from 8000 , meter peaks when they bonked on the way up. Simply getting him down to the next camp probably would have saved his life. A concerted effort by all the climbers would have saved his life. Descending just a few hundred feet will help someone with cerebral or pulmony edema. When a climber was critically injured at Seneca Rocks, WV, a few years ago(head injury from fall) every climber on the mountain came to assist in the rescue. Now, Seneca is no Everest, but you can die there if you are careless, or unlucky. Everest hasn't been a climber's mountain for some time now. I tried to think of something helpful, but all I could think about was how hot petite women are.....sorry! Oh...wait.... I rock out to "Radar Love" singing and speeding like a maniac on the way to the DZ. Maybe try that? Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Well, you see, in the good old days, people power got all the work done. And back then, most of the work was backbreaking, dirty labor. So after the work was all done, everyone would clap their hands togther to help disperse the dust, and loosen the muck. Then they could shake hands and thank eachother for a job well done. Which of course evolved into our modern tradition of clapping in appreciation for something done well.\ Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Well, we did learn that Meat Loaf is a terrible singer and waaaaay more spastic than Taylor. In fact, barring Prince, the Idols out sang every single celeb. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

This is why it is more dangerous to go as part of a guided group. I mean, you are just another body to the climbers on your team. If this guy was up there with a partner that he had climbed with for years, likely a heroic effort by his partner could have saved him. Read 'Touching the Void' for a great example. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

__________________________________________ YEAH! Taylor WON! Too cool! Unfortunately, we had to sit through 1hr. 58min. of the worst television and crap since 'The Gong Show'! My God! Whoever came-up with all that garbage needs to be put on Devil's Island for the rest of their lives! Making fun of people who didn't make it on the show? Gimme a break! Giving them awards? Had to be Seacrest's idea. Chuck Eh.... it could have been much worse. Congrats Taylor! -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

just to be clear......are you including Taylor with this group? Nobody is a Hendrix, a Dylan, or a Stevie Ray. These guys were innovators and virtuoso performers. But my point still stands - mainstream success does not equal artistic ability. Had I discovered Taylor's music without American Idol, I would have bought it. It's really good stuff. In case you didn't know, he does have 2 CD's out.... Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

How are they pimping him? By being honest? In the end, they have to get votes, which do translate to sales. Heck, Bo Bice has no airplay, but is over 500,000 CDs sold. And I'm not so sure Katherine would sell a lot of albums. When it came time to sing a song written for her (poorly, by the way) she couldn't pull it off. Taylor at least managed to sell that tripe they wrote for him. In the end, I probably won't buy any CD's anyway. I just like picking my favorite and rooting for them. I picked Taylor at his audition, so it has been enjoyable watching my pick do so well. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

No, you're not. Here's the thing: Taylor could sell lots of records, but they will not market/produce him correctly. His record should be soulful and rock/blues inspired, not bubble-gum pop inspired, which is where they will take it. And for those of you who choose to define an artist by how much money they make for FOX or RCA, I'd say that you have a pretty shallow view of artistry. Many great artists, musical or otherwise, didn't have mass market appeal - but that does not mean they were not gifted or special. Did everyone love Hendrix, Dylan, or Stevie Ray Vaughan? No. Were they superb artists? Most experts say yes. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Taylor made the bubble-gum music producers of American Idol sound good with that last song. Although, now I am afraid they will take him in the TOTALLY wrong direction. It seems like they have a bunch of business analysts sitting around figuring out which notes in a song sell better. There is no respect for artistic integrity in the crap they write for the AI contestents. Oh well.... There's always hope, I guess. Sounds like the typical entrepeneur. Wouldn't be the first failed businessman president. He actually made a fortune on these failed attempts though, so it would depend on what one would consider "success". Daddy's buddies bailing him out to the tune of millions is not success. Does it say anything like "If you do not respond in 30 days this debt will be considered valid"? In some states you can write back that you dispute the validity of the debt and they are required to go back to the hospital and provide written verification of the debt. how can you be sure? have you done any research regarding homosexual neighbors, straight neighbors and their stomping tendencies? If I don't give my wife some penis every so often she starts stomping around. So that may have something to do with it.... ? Study: Average IQ Lower for Conservatives May 22, 2006(AP) In a recent study, IQ tests indicated that, on average, conservative political thinkers trail their liberal counterparts by as many as 22 points. Researchers identified several factors for this disparity in their peer-reviewed paper, to be published in an upcoming issue of "CURRENT RESEARCH IN SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY". Factors cited include higher educational achievements, and a feeling of greater social and civic responsibility among liberal thinkers. Conservative thinkers, on average, are cited as having less ambitious educational goals and achievements, attributed in part to a discrediting of science, in favor of religious views. Using data gathered over a 10 year period, as well as hypothetico-deductive procedures, empirical research, and extensive testing, the researchers have constructed what may be the most extensive and accurate picture to date of the relationship between political thought and intelligence. Contributors include professor Yen Lee Ho, Ph.D., Harvard University, Dr. William Rodgers, Institute of Psychology, London, and Dr. Karen Hoffner, Scholar-in-Residence, Boston University. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.
