I don't even think even the most selfish smokers believe that. I mean, that's why smokers are always smoking in their own homes and right in front of their own kids and infants. Right? I'm just using the same argument that the GW deniers use - there is no scientific proof beyond a reasonable doubt linking second hand smoke with cardio/cancer risk. For every study that says there is, there is one that says there isn't. It's funny that we let people drink all night and drive home, but if those same people light up in the bar they will be kicked out. If we are really concerned with the safety of people, maybe they should mandate a quick alcohol breath test before serving you that third drink at a bar. After all, serving a drunk person is illegal. Smoking, like skydiving, is a risky behavior. Both can kill you, many people will call you crazy for doing either, and both cause large amounts of smoke to be released into the air. ALL people who drink have driven above the legal limit at some point in their lives. They are a much greater proven danger to the public than smoking. There is no proven connection between second hand smoke and cancer or cardiovascular disease. Yeah, I agree - Keep them lungs healthy, but FUCK the liver! Drinking is a nasy habit too, bud, as is picking your nose, and some would argue, skydiving. You have a point as soon as drinking involves walking up to each person in a 50 foot radius and spitting your drink into their faces and actually forcing them to drink a bit of it. Right now, at least it's only your own liver. And not other's livers, or comfort, etc. But that would be a very strange bar that some people might like. Drunks and alcohol affect everyone. People drink and drive, killing instantly their victims, instead of maybe making them uncomfortable. Drinking drives up insurance costs for all of society due to increased accidents and health problems. I'd suggest if you are worried about your health, steer clear of the bars. I have known a few people who went to work every single day stoned, and never had issues, and got promoted. So I guess he knew when to stop - never! With hard drugs you might have a case, but many can and do function quite well on hard drugs. Hell, Limbaugh was on the air for years while popping Oxy, and nobody seemed the wiser. It's funny to me that some people seem to resent the poor for their "luxurious" lifestyle. It's like all they do is watch TV and do drugs - and you can't stand that. Answer - In a free society any drug test should be illegal, unless a crime like DUI or similar is being investigated. I see your point though - if you have money for drugs, you have money for food/bills, but I disagree with drug testing in general. Milk has seen a huge increase in price - due almost completely to rising costs of CORN(cow food) due to ethanol demand. Tell me, when has a milk 'shortage' that was created by a milk industry plan to limit the number of cows, ever lead to a dramatic upswing in the price of gasoline? Gasoline, in my opinion is a very unique commodity, different than food and other non-tangibles.
