  1. a baseball hat works well also. I heard a hat is fun to play with under canopy also. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  2. Thats a rule I have, if I am filming a team we all get a pin check, its too easy not to, and with me up above, no pin check could be a big problem for me. But if there is non teammates near me I always do a gratuitous pin check. (are we not our brothers keepers?) Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  3. Bwahaaaa that is too funny, it took me forever to think of what the hell you are talking about. For everyone else, the Air Force truck was dirty as hell, so I wrote on the back Air Force test dirt, do not remove, on it. I sold the 111 I have a 96 now and Im getting a 90 soon, now I dont have to jump Niklas's rig all the time anymore. The 107 yep I still got it, 4 chops this year but we found the problem, seems you have to replace f111 pilot chutes after 1000 jumps on em, who would have figured? See you in Nationals, but Im filming TBD, frost is no more, im trying to get Niklas to let me come to canaveral with him when you train. What are you jumping now? 8. I have to stress that Freefly video it is a ton! more important to be able to fly. Relative work speeds do vary but not that much, burbling on a team usually just ends up in a red face, and maybe an angry team, most team's I know just poke fun at the cameraman and laugh it off. With freefly video you have to be a lot more careful. Speed ranges are a lot more, and the ability for someone to close on you at an incredible rate of speed without warning is always there. Also there is a lot more risk involved with Freefly video, as to belly video, let me explain a little. Definitely you sacrifice some of your awareness when you are shooting video RW and FF, the camera looking around for people out of the shot just doesn't make good video, with a belly jump if someone goes low, they try to grab air and if they cant do anything they just fly around under, and then track off. Now with freeflying if someone goes low, or is out of your sight, you risk them corking or going flat underneath you, people have a talent for forgetting there is someone on the outside shooting video. There is a very good friend of mine that has a broken neck from someone trying to fly up to him. Until you can fly good enough to be anywhere you want to be, and do exactly what you want to do in the air, I would definitely not recomend you shoot freefly video. Just like my first post stated learn to fly great before you put a camera on, then learn to fly video. With freefly, birdman ec, added risk multiplys greatly with a camera. That said, if you are just wearing a camera like you said and jumping, and you understand the additional risk of wearing a camera on your head, that should be ok, if you have good basic flying skills. There is 2 types of video for sure, if you are going to shoot Video then shoot video, if your wearing a camera and doing a planned skydive, forget you have a camera and do the dive, look around, be aware, it doesn't make the best video but it will keep you safer. 9. Never said I was a bmci, just a bmi. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  10. Well yes I am a BMI, actually I was one of the first Bird-men ever, long story but here is the short version, Bob Halett had a Bird-man suit that he got very early. I had like 300 jumps and I begged and begged him, he told me if I was in such a hurry to jump it he would help, (Mike johnston told me if I was in such a hurry to die there is easier ways). So Bob gave me a 4 hour lesson, mock up, 20 pulls, cutaway wings ect, and then Im off. the jump was awesome, cool thing is Norman Kent and Nicole bought suits and I got to tell them what I knew, (absolutely nothing) and they learned that much from me, but I have been jumping bird-man almost as long as there has been bird-man, I also have almost a thousand jumps on my head and sit, bet ya didnt know that either, there is more to life than 4way video, but 4way video pays me to train to swoop, so Im all about it. I do fun jump a lot, but most people dont see it, because its during the week, mostly first load of the day. Remember, we did a fun jump bird-man in Sebastian. 11. Ok now I have done the required reserve's to pack, I need to learn how to sew (Im still not taking the test until I feel a lot more comfortable with packing, especially until I packed a lot more different rigs). I have a Singer my friend lent me, to practice, but I cant find a manual for it anywhere. Is there anywhere you could find a manual about how to thread a singer sewing machine, I cant find a model on the actual machine, so that might be a problem. Thanks Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  12. Is it an Islander? Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  13. That was you, Jari told me he had some people that wanted to get Bmi at the Hillz, I was there, but no one asked me about it. He was very busy planning a trip so our communication wasnt the best, so I didnt know who it was. Anytime you want to come to Deland Pm me and I can help you out, and I should be coming to the Hillz quite regularly in the future. Good luck. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  14. Number 5 I think the guys foot caught the handle, another thing to think about when doing horny gorrilla's Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  15. Oh shit the first low pull is insane, good to see he is ok. Edited to add, they all are insane! Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  16. I own the .05 it just isnt wide enough, I actually got it even trade for a kenko .42 with Graham Harding from Majik. He said the same thing I thought I would use it for Tandems. It actually isnt a bad lens for tandems and such, but Im so used to the .03 that I use it all the time. Dag einer from the Norgies also uses a .3 without zooming, but he had to change the way he flew a lot also. Its not really that much closer, but you do have to work a little harder. Im 100% sure in a jump or two you would have no problem with the .3 as your lens for 4 way. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  17. There definitely is an interest in skydivers wanting to pick up the art of shooting video. I see a lot of camera newbies, and a lot of people are posting about it. Most people want to know a jump# when to start. There isnt a # its all based on how well you fly, and how comfortable you are in the air. First priority to starting to shoot video, is having good rw skills. Its a lot easier to get the shot when you know how to fly there, I see a lot of newer videographers orbiting and doing unintentional flybyes. You need to have the ability to fly stable and stay in place first before you ever think of putting on a camera. Also when you add wings it makes it all the more important to be able to fly good. If you cant dock on a 8way you wont be any good at filming it. One thing you can try beforehand, do some jumps with a big group and see if you can fly just outside of it. The golden knights have a good way of putting it, "they can teach anyone with good relative work skills to be a cameraman". Notice I said "Teach" there is a skill to it, and it does take a few jumps to learn it, and good rw skills make all the difference. Also remember everyone has good and bad jumps, point turners and Videographers, so if you have a bad video jump shake it off and keep on trying. Another thing I strongly reccomend is, watch your video. I watch all my jumps a few times and Im always coaching myself, you know what looks good and bad, if you see something wrong you know what to stop or start doing. Most of all have fun. Its definitely a challenge but has lots of rewards. Good luck. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  18. Nope, but I tend to be tight on the 4way, but I mostly film 4way, so I get bored, and I have seen every block, and random hundreds of times, I like the wide angle so I can get close as hell and fill the screen, but on actual competition jumps I stay back a little so if the team spreads apart I have a little reaction time to get up and keep them in the screen. Ive had teams key something when they werent even close to each other. I never considered using the .03 for 4way until I saw Rickster using it. He loves it, and his video is awesome, Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  19. If your flying close, my recomendation goes to the Diamond .03 definitely worth every penny, I used to use it only for freeflying, but now I use it for everything. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  20. BEER! Congrats, nice pic. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  21. reply] Is it good to start flying camera in a full camera suit or will a camera suit top do the job just as well? (filming RW & Tandems) I am more inclined towards the camera suit top but would like your opinion (pro & cons..) Also what would be the price difference (just an indicative level to make comparisons)? Any recommendations? When I first started shooting video, I was using a flip/flop camera suit, basically a freefly suit with a smaller wing set up so you can use it on your back, and on your belly. This was ok, I did a ton of jumps with it, later the team I was on got Jumpsuits so I got a Pro-Comp Camera suit from Merlin, Immediately I wondered, how did I ever do video without it? The difference was amazing, booties added amazing power to my track, and the Huge wings allowed me to fly steep as hell on the team, and if I got burbled, it wasnt a problem. But with the power and wing, the suit was definitely harder to fly, thats just for competition type skydiving and Rw, for tandems I still use my flip flop suit, its more comfortable and I like to fly on my back with tandems. All suit manufacturer's make good camera suits, so which one you buy is purely preference. So if you want a suit, its ok to start with a jacket or freefly suit with wings, Ive even seen camera suits with shorts on them. Depending on what you intend to shoot maybe progress to a suit suited for your needs, Dress for success. I do reccomend doing a jump or two without a camera on wearing your suit first, do practice pulls ect, it is a little difft, but with practice you wont even notice the difference. 22. Recently Ive been doing a lot of jumps at other Drop zones, and I always try to get people to come to my home dz, (which I love). But all I hear is Deland is a team factory and no one fun jumps there. I work there and I know there is some fun jumping going on, I do agree over the years it has slowed down a little with the fun jumpers, they are doing more jumps each year, but I think its cause of teams. In my recent jumps at other Dz's I have seen a lot of skydive Deland's regulars, and when I asked them where they have been, they said "this dropzone is a lot more fun". Anyway to the point, if you are jumping somewhere else, and used to jump in Deland why? Is Deland not fun anymore? I agree that the personal atmospere there isnt as strong as it used to be, and definitely when the jumping ends, everyone goes home, at the other dz's Ive been to the party starts when the jumping ends. Well please give your opinion, Deland isnt a tandem factory, we have awesome planes, well maintained ect, coaching for every kind of skydiving, and a good restaurant. If you have anything good to say about Deland and why you like it, I would love to hear it, but if you have anything bad to say about Deland I would love to hear it also, there is definitely a decline in the regulars. This post is just for me, personally, Im just curious, nothing about this post has anything to do with Skydive Deland, its staff or jumpers. Its based on a few conversations I had with people at other dz's, and at my home dz. I just wanted to see if everyone felt that way or had difft opinions. I would love to hear everyone say "hell no Deland rocks dont change it" so if you feel that way post it, and if you dont want to post it public, IM me. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  23. Been there before, I was filming 8 way this year, and I have a very steep style of filming, basically Im riding the edge, you know what Im talking about quade im just explaining to people that dont know. The group turns a point and the guy directly underneath me has his pc come out, and his canopy inflated. It took some serious reaction, and flying to keep from him killing me and myself. The worst thing about it, is his peice partner saw the pc coming out and didnt know what to do so he kept turning points. And I learned another thing to look for while filming a team. After I watched the video I dont know how I missed it, but there is a lot going on so it isnt that hard to not see it. I spent a ton of jumps last year freaking, I even started tracking myself at break off last year, cause one of the teams I did some video for, the girl on the team did a hackey check every jump at break off, can you say Oh shit. Definitely for a cameraman, you need to train your team as they need to train you, Point turners never think about the guy above them. One of the best 4way video people in the world Rickster Powell never dumps at break off he finds a hole and then dumps. That keeps him safe, I myself play gunslinger and the second I see breakoff IM outta there. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

  25. Just to let everyone know. 1.8 is outdated, im on version 1.14. Funny thing that happened with my neptune, im sitting at the bar and one of my friends ask's me "is that a new neptune" I told him yes, he then asks "arent they waterproof" I said yes, he then takes it and puts it in his glass of beer, "Yep its waterproof". But my wriststrap smells like Beer now. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
