  1. No way would i wait 20 sec if i had a problem with a drogue. after i throw the drogue, i check it for inflation if not inflated after 5 sec i pull drogue release. I would never go beyond that. my motto, if i have a problem i deal with it there and then not later
  2. just a quick observation. Is the photo reversed by any chance? normally the BOC is on your right side aswell as the cutaway Pillow. As for the Fit it looks pretty good to me from the 2 pics.
  3. i think it comes down to personal choice, but i never read anything in a manual. personally, after relining my own canopy i have given it a terminal opening next time. as far as i am aware you do not have to a sub-terminal opening Rodger
  4. My Recommendation is Skydive City in Z-Hills.
  5. good job in dumping out of that. you had no other choice at that stage, deploying is the lesser of all the evils. there has been many people who tried to get stable, but at this stage you are running out of time. i also firmly believe that spinning like that really slows down your thought process and leads to you to pass out eventually. personally i would have liked to see you dump out a bit earlier once your realised you where not able to recover from that. as for the reason you did not recover, 2 main reasons in my opinion . you forgot to arch and relax! there was a kink in your body before you started the spin and made the problem worse. as for the instructor, personally i like to be closer to the student so that i am able to intervene quicker if that is needed. you def spun it up pretty good. as for stopping a spin for the instructor,i will say prevention is better than the cure. there is the text book way to stop a turn and there is the real world way of stopping a spin. i will admit that i had one student who caught me out by spinning up like that. it took me a couple sec to adjust to the slower fall rate. but in that case i like to be just above or just below the student when redocking. that way i try to avoid the arms and legs and i always try to go for the centre mass. grapping an extremity can make the issue a lot worse. it does happen that the instructor occasionally gets thrown off.thats why i find centre mass a lot more succesfull. and my final point, maybe i am behind the times, but i have never thought any of my AFF student to Spin on there AFF program. i teach them to start and stop a turn. and depending how they get on i might give them 2-3 360 before redocking. again how soon i redock depends on what the severity of it is.if it is a slow turn,i find getting in front of them and smiling at them gives them a focus point that stops the turn. excellent news to hear that you had no issues in doing the repeat jump and solved your problem. obviously the nstructor gave you good advice and you listen to it. congrats by the way on getting your A licence! so to all other AFF out there, do you guys teach a spin on your AFF course?? 7. thank yous all for sharing how to make a link clicky. I am one of the dumbass that didnt know. but i learned something new today, so cheers for that who says you cant learn anything on here?
  8. i am a tandem examiner so i done about 40 as passanger. weird sensation with no rig but you get used to it. but still lots of fun most of the time. except when they plough you into the ground on landing after ignoring you instructions to flare and fighting with the toggles.
  9. I was in Cerfontaine about 3 years ago, acting as an Designated-Evaluator for a Coach and AFF course that was happening there. i saw a few aff jumps while i was there. and the guys i evaluated for the AFF course where all pretty darn good in my opinion. i also liked the place and athmosphere that was there. i enjoyed my time there, and i presume it is still opened at this stage. 10. yep they look like 600 Dacron to me. as for what is best, oh boy you will get many arguments from everyside on that one, all of them have pro's and con's. there is a thread in the Incidents section, regarding a hard opening in DeLand, florida. there was a big disscusion about lines on that one.( i think i have the correct thread, apologise if i got mixed up) as for what line set to get, me personally i prefere the Spectra line followed by HMA, but again that is a personal choice. oh boy i am getting ready for the debate on this one
  11. from the RPC looks like a wings container to me. i agree with incorrect EP, propably a pilot chute in tow due to uncocked main pilot chute??? what ever happend to arching when pulling your reserve, one can clearly see a De-arch when reserve handle was pulled. if main had not opened at that time reserve bridle could have been wrapped aroung the jumper and not through the risers of the main. but the main thing is that we are reading about this in this forum and not as another fatality in the incident forum.
  12. Hi Dawn, I have seen those paper Seals on a few occasions this side of the atlantic. they are commen in Eastern europe and Russia. check if the no you see fits his licence no,that might shed a light on it. and the Rig owner is correct by saying it is legal for people to pack there own reserves we had that rule here in Ireland until about 3-4 years ago. if the owner packed it and he didnt have a riggers ticket, he was the only one who was allowed to jump it. i proposed that this rule be changed and was glad when it did.
  13. "If you don't think you could land it in the worst possible conditions, you shouldn't jump it." That Sir is a very good statement! i ask simular question regarding reserves when they really want a small one than advisable. how do you reckon you fair out if you are unconsious for some reason,do you reckon this will get you down safely with no input?
  14. that is a really bad idea indeed.tell him to check the incident page on here and read all about his idea. hope we dont have to read about him soon
  15. Agreed! - They can't grab the door frame. - They can't grab your hands. - They can't stick their feet out on landing to break legs. Looks like an excellent idea! + if they start to feel sick, you can tell them to put there head into it,so youdont get any fluids your way!
  16. Excellent achievement, all the very best for the rest of the day. blue skies and safe jumping! Rodger
  17. i do not have that many jumps considering, there is many people who have lots more. plus i been jumping almost 21 years. also if you work full time in the sport you can clock up many jumps fairly quickly. for example an ex aff student of mine from just over 4 years ago just beat my jump numbers! but hey we all had to start with one! do you wear supporting straps on your ankle when you jump? what kind of foot wear do you use? for rounds i would recommend a good support strap plus some para boots. Rodger
  18. let me get this right, you are 6'6 and 187lbs? why would you want to loose more weight? hell i am 6'5 and 300 lbs but the lighter you are will help when jumping rounds, but no matter it normally hurts when you land a round! best you can do is to make sure your feet and knees are together and do a good PLF! does your club have any square canopys to jump for student?
  19. hiya, the video helps a lot and i will give you my opinion, on a couple points and if you where my student, here is what i would say to you to fix the issues. to me you are not far off on whats required, just a couple minor adjustments. it looks like the rig and laterals are a tiny bit big on you, hence it is sliding slightly off onto you left side, which in turn is causing you to kink your body slightly to the right.remember it is important NOT to kink your spine or hips. you can see on the video that your left side and knee is lower than on the right.thus this will cause a turn in that direction. also have a look at your arms, they are not symetrical, meaning equal on both sides. ideally your bend at your elbows should be around 80-90 degrees, on your right arm it looks to be around 110-140 on occasions,so this will add to the turn. your should have more positive pressure on your legs, point your toes and do not let the wind bend your knees.on a couple occasions you had your legs in a good position and then they creep back up towards your backside, try not to let that happen. all of these are small and minor issues, but when all put together it will cause this turn. however there was also lots of good points on the skydive, a nice exit and good alti awareness throughout.good communication with your instructor and good response to signals. you made a good effort at the toe taps and you had a nice pull.
