Personally i have seen a canopy in worse condition, And have said ok to be jumped. I am not sure where those tiny holes are located. The usual place i normally find those nicks are on the tail section. Are they by any chance located close to the tail of the centre cell? if so i could understand why the rigger might deem it unairworthy. If its not on the tail i would let it go and tell the owner to keep an eye on them. I would also check the deployment bag and the grommet where the bridle is feed through to see if there iscany sharp nicks there. Also how is the canopy secured go the bag? is it acfrench link or soft links? as for a reline cant say as i have not measured the line trim. As for 600 dollars for the work, if a lineset has to be shipped abroad and import duty to be paid it can add up. I know in ireland its 26% and thats the total including the shipping price! Then depends hos much a rigget charges for a reline. I normally charge 90 bucks rodger

Hiya, if its just the lower brake line below the toogle loop its an easy fix. Any rigger should do that in less than 10min. As for ths cost. I normally charge about 20 bucks and replace both sides at the same time.

What to consider when purchasing a main
irishrigger replied to vanessalh's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi vannessa and welcome to the sport. -
Nice one shlamo and congrats. All the best for the next 17000!

first of all welcome to the sport and glad to hear you are having a ball. i know you be eager to do many jumps as possible in a day, yes it is great fun and excillerating. one piece of advice is Quality is much better than quantity, you are at the stage where you should really learn to improve the skills you have learned at the beginning and learn more and newer flying skills. my advice to a few coach jumps with an expiereinced person, i know it might cost a few bucks but it will be money well spent. you will learn a lot more and really improve your flying skills. which will stand to you in the long run. when i started i was like you, jumped out of everything that was going, i was building on some bad habits, next thing i have 500 jumps plus, i go to a boggie got into some 20ways and found out i could not really fly correctly i was a bit embarresed and had to start to get more coaching again. so that is my 2cents worth. again welcome to the sport and stay safe!!!

Using a Vigil 2-pin Cutter on a 1-pin Rig
irishrigger replied to chuckakers's topic in Gear and Rigging
personally i would not have a problem storing the second cutter in the puch for the aad for the weekend, but i am not sure what the rules and regulation would say about that. although i doubt it be written anywhere clear. masterrigger or jerry baumchen would be much more knowledgable on the subject of rules and regs. you could always put the 2 cutters throught he reserve loop, to be sure to be sure as we would say in ireland personally,if its just for the weekend i would do it for the customer. rodger -

the racer is an ok. i would also asume that your rigger might have an issue to repack the reserve. it can be very hard and difficult to properly seat the reserve pilot chute tidely, thats where most people have an issue with the racer. however there is a few tricks one needs to know to get it done right. its not hard when you follow the manual. and i would not give your rigger a hard time about, he or she is not comfetable packing a racer well fair play for letting you know that, a lot of riggers would try to do it and it would look like a horrible mess. i am not sure where you are based and again your rigger might be the only one in your area,so in that case it could be good advise as you might have issues in the future getting it repacked. good luck in making that decision cherrio rodger

basicley a vortex is a copy of a javelin. its made in south africa and its an ok rig. if its only 4 years old it should be freefly friendly etc. so it could be a good choice. however there was a bullitin out on them from earlier this year. you should be able to get a copy of that at the top of this forum, it is an easy enough fix and your rigger should be able to inspect if it has been done. as for the reserve, a PD160 is a fantastic reserve in my opinion. it smy opinion that PD make the best reserves in the market, but i am sure other people might disagree with that. as for the price, that almost sounds to good to be true. if you can get it at that price and all is in order you are getting a very good and sweet deal so hope it works our for you rodger

If ur having a hard time closing the reserve pin flap or its sticking out to much i would not jump it. I would def bring it back to the rigger that packed it and have him repack it altogether. If that is not an option take a few pictures and have another rigger do it. And then look for a refund! And one more point its always a very good idea to check te rig and paperwork when u pick up the rig! it can prevent a whoopsie like this. I once forgot to sign off a data card for a customer, oops cost me a ciuple of beers and a few phone calls and a fax to sort it out.

Hi All, I need some help and information please, i received a powerd hangglider the weekend a swedish aerosports "Mosquito" the owner had pulled his reserve accidently and asked me to repack it for him. i have never seen a free bag like it and i have no manual for it. i have searched online and tried to contact the manufacure but they are on holidays for another week. has anyone here ever repacked on of those reserves or have a manual for it? any help would be appreciated. thanks all rodger

What do you need to know?

i dont know which country this might be occuring in. but i definitly agree,it s not a very good idea. every potential tandem master should be trained by an examiner. however due to weight issues i might let another tandem master go in front as a passenger, and i like to do that on as many training jumps as possible. i dont particular agree if someone has only 100 jumps that they can be used as a guiney pig so to speak. i rather have another tandem master in front for those.with an examiner filming it with outside camera i might also get another tandem master to show him how to pack,if i am unavailable for some reason. but no jump takes place unless the briefing was done by a tandem examiner. and all the ground school must be done by a tandem examiner. if this was to happen in the US and an accident accured i am sure that every lawyer will be cueing up to take that case. bottom line its not a good idea and should not be done and most definite not with any live paying passengers!!!! my 2cents rodger

hiya, its unsual for a stiletto to have continious hard openings. and i would suspect there is another under lying cause for it. have you brought the canopy to a rigger for inspection? are you sure that the correct slider is on it? are you sure that a correct line change was done? how about your main pilot chute-what size is it? is your kill line ok? i agree with you that a stilletto is a great canopy,i jump a 120 myself and never had an issue with hard openings, and i am 300lbs fat arse out the door i have heard that a pilot is a decent canopy, although i have seen extremly hard openings on them also. in my opinion it might be worth sending back to PD for inspection. any issues i have had with a PD canopy they always looked after me with excellent customer service. my 2 cents worth rodger
-
hi, i jumped the hobbs in new zealand. they open nice, fly nice ( like a stilletto)very light toggle pressure. but the one issue i had with them was when it was windy and turbolent. the smacked me a couple of times on landing in those conditions. so i jumped other canopys when it was windy. when calm and slight breeze i liked them. i have heard of other tandem master complaing of the same thing. but that was 6-7 years ago and i havent jumped them since. so not sure if they have improved them since rodger

i have had 2 ladys admit to having an "o".one occasion it was quiet funny looking back on it. she was quiet vocal after the canopy had opend. she was panting like crazy and also had this massive quiver and shaking going on. i actually thought she was having some sort of a fit!! eventually after a few seconds i managed to get her to talk and she said that she had the most intense orgasm ever. i was actually thinking about cutting away to go for a multiple "O" she said a huge thank you after landing and had a huge smile on her face. only downside was she never left a tip lol rodger

its depends. a lot can affect it that, as to the climate and location you jump in also how ell you look after your gear, if you always pack on a nice clean carpet or do you pack it outside on the grass and mud? and what your wingloading is etc average, its recommended about 400-450 jumps on a line set.although some people might get a few more jumps. remember that spectra line can and will shrink a hug amount. i found one last year that was 7.5 inches out of trim!! that was my all time record. he was wondering why he was crappy openings!!! he had done 1800 jumps on that canopy! best advice let your rigger inspect and measure the line trim and he will tell you the best course of action rodger

are you saying there has never been a failed >cutter< in a cypress activation? ill look at mfg website for manual download. lets say i had a recently mostly banned aad in a container that banned it and it partially cut the loop, would that be visible with out opening the packjob? as far as i am aware,a cypres cutter never failed to cut the loop when the unit fired! however there was a couple container locks that did happend, there was a service bulltin out on mirage containers and the location of the cutter had to be changed. there is also a video floating around of the same thing happening on a vector. i do belief those happend that the reserve loop was to long and got traped in the grommets of the reserve flaps. as for seeing if the cutter had fired on a unit that will depend on the container. most cutters are inside where they are not visible and the only way to check would be to open the container. however there is some containers where the cutter is otherwise located and can be visualy inspected. they be so called poptops like a Racer, teardrop or reflex. basicly any container where the reserve pin is located on your packpad. also ask your rigger about your cypres. maybe he has a rig that needs repacking and is open . switch on the cypres watch it go down to 0 and then disconnect the cutter from it. the unit will still display 0. then switch it on with the cutter disconnected, on a cypres2 the dispaly will show 1111 for 3 seconds and the unit will then switch itself off.
-
And if you switch the cypres on again after that. The error code 1111 should be displayed on the control unit. Thats if it is a cypres2 unit. I think a cypres1 will say 8998. Would have to double check that. Also i am not sure if the unit switches itself of after a fire. I think it will still display 0 on the screen. I tbink thats what it did the ladt time we had a cypred fire. If you have a manual if should clarify thst for you. Also i trust my cypres cutter 100% to do its job correctly if needed!

strong cross training requirements
irishrigger replied to aerialcameraman's topic in Tandem Skydiving
hi, i did my cross train many years ago, so sorry if i miss anything,or things might have changed since. you had to get the tandem package from strong enterprises themselfs, that was $125 during my time you had to have at least 100 tandems done on another system to do the cross train. there was some ground work regarding the system and malfunction procedures. and i had to do 2 jumps on the gear with an expirienced passanger. strong have a rule that you have to had a cutaway, if you dont you will need to do an intentional one. i did the whole lot in a couple of hours with my examiner. i am a tandem examiner for UPT,but not for strong. i am not sure what part of the states you are from but there is plenty of strong examiners around. if in florida and zhills area look up bram clement. also i believe this info is on the strong enterprises website. hope you get it sorted easy enough blue skies rodger
