  1. No, you need actual measurements for that. Quote they are attached in Adobe format file. The question is still actual. cheers Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
  2. I am not a rigger but i am curious as to know how one could tell if it needs a reline just fromt he information you have provided in this thread. I am not trying to be funny either, just interested to know.*** obviously from the measured chart which I attached in Adobe format. Look on the pdf file and you see three main columns, 1) Manufacturer data, 2) left and 3) right measured values. thanks Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
  3. Can some experience guy/rigger advice if the canopy requires reline, I would really appreciate that. Definitely I should change the steering ones (F - middle steering lines) as on the full flight there is still some input on the tail. Regards Janusz Ps I posting again as previous post is more related to hard opening. Back to Poland... back home.
  4. Could some rigger give me an opinion on the shape of the lines? Do the need to be relined? Regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
  5. I take into account small error during packing, however this should not effect with such horrible openings. Otherwise I should experienced that earlier on Sb2 or Cayenne. But my question now is: do the lines require to be changed? Please see attachments. Regs Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
  6. Hi there, Some time ago (about over 2 months) when I was in Zhills I had two very hard openings. Due to the weather conds first jumps were from lower alt, therefore after 3s delay I pulled and got slammed hard by the canopy. Next jump was even worst, after full freefall and belly down positioned opening I got really hard one, harder than the first earlier. My body was moving to the left (I had that felling) while canopy was turning right at the opening. I was compressed into the harness. The crushing forces were quite significant and the reserve handle (D type) broken my left rib. In addition I was a little bit dizzy, my neck was "whacked" (hardly), all left side ribs hurt at the sternum and some pain in my upper spine. I didn’t feel very bad just after accident, than I did another 4 jumps that day. Sometimes I think that I have slightly different feeling what "hard" opening is, comparing to others. My canopy is Cobalt 135 and WL 1.4. I bought it with approx 200 jumps on it. I made on it till that opening about 40-50 jumps. My first canopy was Cayenne 170 with quite normal openings, second was Sabre 2 150 which disappointed me with the flying (sinking) characteristic and not nice openings at all, however good canopy to learn landings. Then cobalt arrived and that was beautiful! I was amazed with nice, soft, on heading, consistent openings. Just after the accident when I jumped it first time, the same day, I closed eyes expecting the worst while pulling out, but surprisingly the opening was so soft that it didn’t caused any pain in my crushed body at all. Little and constant tension in the harness during entire deployment. The sweetest which could be. My question is what could cause such hard openings twice in a row!? I consider myself as a safe and careful packer. I only had one hard opening which was a result of rush during packing on my Cayenne 170. Since that 100 “normal” Sabre 2 openings, with 90 deg turns to left or right with some “strong accent” at the early stage of opening. And all except those two nice on cobalt. I always pack myself. I measured the lines comparing with the lines chart which I found on the forum. Could possibly the lines be a reason of those two openings with some other small error (packing)? Does the canopy require relining? What would be the option with relining? Is H-mod improving openings? Where can I do reline/H-mod, and for how much? Which lines would you recommend me (spectra/vectran)? I’m a big fan of Galvanor and I don’t consider of changing the type of the canopy/fabric. I also love Cobalt’s nice openings which I usually have on it. The way which it flies and flare is amazing. No other problems with the canopy at all – expect small slow turn after opening caused by shorter left steering line (by 1.5 cm). I’ll be grateful for all answers/opinions. Regards JanuszPS Edit - attachments added Edit 2: I eliminate poor body position, anyway, what is poor body position in hop and pop with max 3s delay??? I can't really imagine it. Tracking and slowing down is not a problem for me. Anyway, full track should not be a problem for any canopy otherwise guys with wing suits would be in big troubles. Back to Poland... back home.
  7. Recently jumping in Zhills I experienced so big bumping that I felt my canopy nearly collapsing @50m above the ground. I think that's the first time when I sad myself that I wish I was on the ground instead in the air. regs JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.

  9. In general it is true, but everything is changing and the level/way of teaching and numbers of courses (e.g. canopy piloting) during the first 2 hundreds jumps can increase the skill level and understanding of the problem of the "modern 200 jumper" much higher in comparison with the"old time 200 jumper" 20 or 15 years ago. Also the subject (skydiving) is better recognized, now than before. Progression is everywhere, not only in schools, but this refers to everything. Regs JanuszPS Edit: I'm not saying that everybody can now jump everything after a few courses. Just the judgment needs to be done more carefully, not only fallowing by rough numbers. 10. I jump in quite windy country - Ireland, and what I noticed was that after downsize from 170 Cayenne (ZP semi elipt, WL 1.07) to Sabre2 150 (WL 1.25) about 120 jumps in total my landings have improved a lot. I started to jump only to have another opportunity to practice the landing. However it is very important to mention that I was already after one canopy flying course. I don't like Sabre 2, but it is a very good canopy to start learn how to land with a nice flare. I also thought that I will stay with it for at least 2 years, but after over 100 jumps I changed it to Cobalt 135 with beautiful openings and fantastic landings. 11. This Sanyo should not be considered as a cheap option. Last time when I saw it cost about 600 Euros. Why did I hope to get one decent quality memory card camera? Due to its weight and size! Not because is cheap. This is (size and weight) only the reason of not getting started with a camera. If I have a choice to have add 700g or 300g on my head, I think the second option should be considered, not only for health reason but safety as well. But I'm looking forward for any update about dig cameras using flash memories. Regards JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  12. rhys, Correct me if Cayenne is not tapered. It is more tapered than Sa2 in fact. Go to firebird web site - former PV. Therefore I do not consider them as two different types of canopies. I do not consider Sabre as eliptical canopy, it is closer to square than eliptical. But I have 20 times less jumps than you and have broken English. Regs JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  13. I'm not experienced, so I'm asking wise more experienced jumpers: why did I feel so uncomfortable on my 170 zp Cayenee in windy turbulent day, and much better on the next jump on Sa2 150? My thought will be higher speed (WL) on similar canopy, but ... I can be wrong. Regs JanuszPS Edit: I had about 130 jumps that time. Back to Poland... back home.
  14. Not all are shops, but I bought my current canopy in Holland, container in Germany, etc. few addresses: http://www.skyger.de/modules.php?name=Kleinanzeigen http://www.fallschirmdepot.de/ http://www.fallschirmshop.de/ http://www.parachut.fr/index.php?=&main_page=product_info&products_id=83 http://www.gegeskydive.com/news/annonces.php3 http://www.wuza.net/index.php?category=-1&type=-1&p=annonces&mode=detail&id=10416&page=1#a10416 http://www.para-leasing-nord.de/html/second_-_hand.Sec.html http://www.fallschirmshop.at/index.php?cPath=53_70&XTCsid=9a2a7fc196dc2f5b00f96da3fdad8c83 http://www.paracadutismo.it/bazar/ regs JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  15. I've been thinking about solution for my Sa2 150, and ... I didn't find any. Mostly due to the square shape of the canopy. if the lines are longer, and don't disturb during front risers maneuvers, are too long for nice and safe landings. If good for landings bad for fronts. The middle solution is not perfect either. So after adding some two inches to the brake lines ended up with lines long not enough for front riser use and too long for nice landings (was better before in terms of landings). So I given up my Sa2 at the moment but I keep it still, I might return to it soon. Just my observation and conclusion - for elliptical is easier - the shape helps to have no interruption between fronts and brakes (due to the short end cells). Am I wrong? but a nice picture. regs JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  16. On some canopy flying course (with Jeffro) I did it with a little trouble after (linetwist) but at a safe altitude (1500m) and happy end. Good crack. I have exactly the same problem with my Sa2 150 (maybe not so severe). That's one of the reasons why I don't recommend to anyone Sa2 in general (just my opinion). Nice canopy to learn how to fly and land but I don't like openings, small glide ratio and brake lines problems while using fronts. Extending the brake lines improves situation (a little) with fronts especially when turn is initiated after harness input (stars softer and more gently). But decreases flare characteristics. Colin in Empuria told me when he saw my canopy that a few years ago he would say that my canopy had 600 not 270 jumps due to the lines shrinkage. Regards JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  17. I think that this might be helpful: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3044109;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Currently I'm in similar position thinking about downsizing. At the moment I fly SA2 150 with 1.2 WL. Last season 120 jumps including 100 on SA2. In the meantime I tried Cobalt 135 with 1.4 WL and I loved it. So I keep both thinking which one I should jump for the next few months or year. The truth is that I saw few people with more jumps than me (lets say about 500) jumping that Cobalt 135 or similar canopies with terrible landings, who might not put enough attention to canopy flying or having bad habits. I already attended two canopy flying courses and since that all landings I try to do as good as is possible - not just land, but land it properly starting from the approach (1000ft), keeping the patern and finishing with nice flare. In the case of that Cobalt 135 I didn't have too much problem to fly/land it any time since, but ... There is always "but" on the back of mine mind, what if something unpredictable will happen? That's only what I'm afraid of - it's like an exam which I have to pass. It is very tempting to fly it though. regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
  18. Nicole, Why want you go there: http://www.basetroll.com/products.html and ask yourself giving the serial number and other relevant information? Later you can post the answer. Stane speaks English. I think that Radical is only made in Europe. Regards JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  19. from Sanyo site: VPC-HD1000 can record full high-definition movies at 1920 (horizontal) x 1080 (vertical) resolution. with 60fps. So I'm a little confused now. Is that one anything worth? I'dlike to have a very light camera for my own use only. JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  20. Hello, I'm looking for some information about this camera for skydiving use. Has anyone tried this camera? Regards JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  21. I had exactly the same experience - no or very little attention to my e-mail questions about the staff shown on their website. Although the idea of the second-hand shop is great, they weren't useful and helpful to me at all. Regards JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  22. Are they much different? Are the platforms of these canopies much different. I've red that Atair designed Nitro in late 90's. I have only chance to demo my friends' Cobalt 135. Unfortunately in my place is a little chance or none to demo canopies, therefore my Cayenne, 2 Cobalts and few other canopies are exceptions to a whole range of PD's and Icarus. 23. Hi, I've been researching/reading for long time about those two canopies (last few days about 12hr so far or more) mostly the comments. However some of them are contradicting and very often are quite old. Most of them from 2005 or older. As you know the point of view and the opinion very often can change with perspective of time, experience and knowledge. So getting to the point, what do you think about those two canopies? I consider to get and buy one of those in size 135 with about 1.4 at most WL. Are they of similar / comparable characteristics? Where there some mods provided to their first release and from when? I know that there was some mods in therms of lines in Nitro, but from when? Definitely I prefer gelvenor as my first canopy was Cayenne 170 (PV/Firebird) which I liked a lot. For both of the brands the WL in range 1.2-1.4 is considered for intermediate pilots. Thanks in advance Janusz (sorry for grammar) edit: I might post this in Gear and Rigging section. can someone move it there? Back to Poland... back home.
  24. No answers to any of my e-mails so far - ignorance or maybe lack of spare time, I don't know but not a good experience so far. Maybe they don't like to sell outside the US? Regards JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
  25. Maybe I should ask: Which Vector container will hold these canopies? main: max 150 - min 120 9 cell ZP (no xbraces) (Sabre 2/Safire2 type) reserve: 150/143 - 135 Thanks in advance JanuszPS Back to Poland... back home.
