I have a Cobalt 135 and with my WL about 1.4/1.5 it flies great. Love the landings less the openings. Soft and long but quite "searchy" as well. But flying and landing with front risers is a pleasure for me. In terms of Atair's service, any person from Europe should go to the original factory in Slovenia where Atair is based. I was very well taken care off by Stane when I send my cobalt for reline. Personally after some jumps on PD's Sabre 2 I'm not fan of it as the glide ratio was too steep, I prefer flat glide though, that's why I moved to Cobalt. PS I have a SA2 150 for sale and friend of mine is looking for a Pilot 168 ;-) if you want a trade off give me a buzz. Janusz Edit: I do not try to convince you to go for elliptical or any smaller size canopy. Above is my opinion based on my experience. Back to Poland... back home.

Any results and jumps with the camera? i'm very keen to see them as I think to buy it. I think a good thing is that there is possibility to install the wide angle to the camera directly. regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I was comparing both of those two just last weekend and the 2k was more comfy to wear but somehow more bulky and bigger than I would think should be. The CC1 was more (how to say) elegant and more tight on my head. I think there is more padding in the Fuzion (2k). For some reason I would prefer CC1 (Tonfly) but the price is crazy €615 (euros) with 2 Zkulls and PC 109 or 1000 box , which is about 840 USdol. The helmet only with 2 x Zkulls is about 500 euros. I wonder what is the price in the USA and where to place the order? regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Why not Atair in Slovenia? http://www.basetroll.com/index.html Although I'm not sure if Cobalt still is in production but its successor Radical is. Regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

for some reason last time when I was in Zhills they were asking me for a repack due to 4 months coming up shortly. Fortunately I was leaving exactly the day when the reserve was out of date (as per USPA). How does it work that European regs are not respected in there (i.e. I have FAI "C" Irish license, European gear, etc.) Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I think about Voodoo 2.0 V2 with Techno 155 + AAD and Cobalts 135 (now) and 120 (future). Will that combination work? V2 is taking R325 / M350 cu in I can find different volumes for Techno 310/322 cu in, Cobalt/Impulse 135 330 cu in Cobalt/Impulse 120 300 cu in thanks in advance Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I had a Cayenne 170 for nearly 100 jumps (my first canopy). I think it is very nice piece of equipment. I was little blaming the canopy till I moved to Sabre2 150 ... regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Initially I thought that it replaced Contrail, as this canopy disappeared from the catalog... regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I'm from Europe, so change € to $ Having about 40 jumps I bought second-hand European system (Omega Cont + Cayenne 170 semi elip + Cyp1 8year + Smart 175) and all in very good condition, 2 years old for €3300+250 for Cypres service. This gave me WL about 1.05. After about 75 jumps on the canopy and 200 on the container I sold the rig, but my 150 was slightly too small for the container. The conclusion is that: I don't think it was mistake but as the first rig I should spend not more than 2500. Unless you buy a very good rig with possibility to downsize one or two main sizes down -> spend a fortune or/and get a very good deal. In my opinion after first initial 100 jumps I was able to look around more consciously for the gear. Good luck Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I don't think this is necessary, but sometimes helpful for bigger canopies as after realising deep brakes the pressure within the canopy is less, thus lighter (initial) pressure on toggles is needed. Not necessary but helpful. Also going on brakes (not deep) during approach give more flexibility (landing set up) - that what I would think of. regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I pack always myself since #45 jump, so when a hard opening/mal occurs I can blame myself. The only time when I used packers was when I had so hard opening causing a broken rib and whiplashed neck. After laying on the canopy first time I decided that for the rest of the day I use a packer. For me is easy, packing myself I take full responsibility for the entire skydive as much as is possible and I think that most of the guys who aren't professionals (running from one jump to the other, AFF, Camera) on an intensive canopy course and big ways when debrief is needed are basically lazy or knowledge proof ;-). just simplifying. But everyone has a free choice. regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I think two types of customer needs to be distinguished. 1)People looking for their first rig or those who do not have any to jump and 2)those who already have one. In my opinion more reluctant to choose the quicker manufacturer due to the waiting time being too long should be those who buy their first rig or those who have no rig. People who have already one and are changing due to downsize (or any other reason) can easily wait for the rig longer, because they have something which can jump. I personally, depending on the circumstances and founds, would choose the quicker option/used gear. However recently as I might move soon tho the canopy on which I'm going to stay for longer could consider to wait longer for the container which I'll stay for much longer with (e.g. final downsize to the range of the canopies which can be put into one container - 135/120 in my case). In terms of Icon, I've been checking recently the stock, and it seams that there is nothing available at the moment. Regards Janusz Edit: I'm defenitely for stock rig and I believe that there is plenty of "desperate" people who would buy the stock gear without any problem. Back to Poland... back home.

suspicious ad - Polish "ebay" -> Allegro (black vector)
JanuszPS replied to ptah's topic in Gear and Rigging
Ok, nice translation Yesterday Police from Wabrzezin arrested 28 years old Wabrzezin's inhabitant, who placed on one of the popular internet auctions a parachute for sale. There wouldn't be anything strange in it, however the parachute (system) was stolen two years ago from a hangar in Austria. The Police was informed about the auction by some skydiver who was initially interested in the offer. However the skydiver checked the origin of the parachute system. While it became clear that the parachute was stolen and the seller lives in Wabrzezin, he immediately informed the Police. He made already an appointment with the seller in order to inspect the system. He came on the meeting with Police who arrested the seller and kept the parachute (for evidence). The seller heard an objection of "fencing"(?) (selling stolen goods). Who has stolen the parachute will be explained during the investigation. -
thanks for that info. Recently my Cob135 was relined by Stane and flies lovely. I saw some second hand Demon120, but more than likely I wouldn't fly it for about another year or 150 jumps. I don't really mind to keep it in my closet. I also have some extra piece of gelvenor fabric which can be used for H-mod in the future... What about Demon in comparison to Cobalts? what're the opening, glide and recovery/landings/flare? If someone has an experience on both I would really appreciate his opinion. regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Profile addition for those who've passed away
JanuszPS replied to cpoxon's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
I just wanted to post some proposal for that, and fortunately read this, so the discussion was already about that. Is there any outcome yet? Recently I realized going through the Incident forum that some of the people passed away, and I didn't know about this as there is no indication in their profile or the short profile displayed next to the message field. I think there should be something as for instance there are more people who do not frequently read the Incident forum. You can even see that PM field is still active next to the nickname. the watermark, black stripe going diagonally across the picture or for example #nickname# should be use to indicate that the person is not longer with us. Also a huge educational value this will present as people visiting the forum will tend to find out what happened, and in the case of an incident they could be linked to the tread related to it. just my thoughts Janusz Back to Poland... back home. -

suspicious ad - Polish "ebay" -> Allegro (black vector)
JanuszPS replied to ptah's topic in Gear and Rigging
Not really, Is exactly the same as to say that you are anonymous for me, which is nothing strange if you are from Finland ;-) The ad sas that the guy got it as a present over a year ago but as he has no idea about skydiving is selling it. I think Ptah just highlighted the possible issue with likely stolen (somewhere) gear on auction. Best regards Janusz Edit: Both of us (Ptah and me are from Poland where the ad is announced) Back to Poland... back home. -
Any opinions, please? Maybe someone who tried both canopies would be able to give me some feedback? regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Currently Firebird or former Performance Variable (Germany). They also make Quick/Rush (reserve) and Cayenne (which I had myself), Omega (container). Regards Janusz More info about Radical will be welcome. Back to Poland... back home.

Question mostly directed to European guys as they are more familiar with Demon, but everyone is welcome. What are differences between the two or optionally three of those canopies. Which you prefer most and what you don't like about them. Not necessary direct experience about all of them is required. Thanks in advance. Janusz Before canopy nazis execute me I want to say that I'm searching for the future references. before I change I hope to do about another 150 jumps on my lovely cobalt. Edit: It's late and originally I misspelled the name Demon. I'll do a search, but if anyone can give some fresh opinion I'll appreciate. Back to Poland... back home.

Depends on the Airport (place), the airlines and the destination. From my experience with Ryanair fly from UK to Ireland I didn't have any problems last time. However I know/heard that Ryanair became more restrictive and precise during check-in and boarding. So be careful if you fly with them. As Ryanair has 15 kg (33lbs) limit for check-in luggage I carried the weights separated from the belt in the hand luggage - no problem at that time. The hand luggage limit is 10 kg if I good remember. I also asked that question more experienced guys and one of them sad that once he wore the belt successfully perusing the security guys that this is for a health/medical reason regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

interesting sutiation - try'n'buy + cutaway.
JanuszPS replied to likestojump's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Usually you do not know the owner, and the only thing which is saying anything additional about the owner and the gear (except the look and easy to spot wear and tear) is the paper work. I'm talking about uncertainty which is the deciding factor from the buyer point of view (not always). I do not discuss with the theory or fact that terminal vs subterminal openings make no different to the reserve canopy as I have no that knowledge, experience or simply test data to say what is the truth. But for me the simple thing is: usually never deployed reserve has not been exposed to any additional abuse except the usual packing. I'm clear and neat person when we consider a gear owner, but someone else might not necessary be careful about his rig including the reserve after deploy and landing. That mainly what I mean. Personally as an engineer I do think that both deployed and brand new reserve are equal in therms of reliability or performance, but nevertheless I would prefer to buy the second one. JanuszPS replied to likestojump's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Agree, but there are other aspect which should be take into account: what was the condition of the jump(s) including all aspects (i.e. speed of deployment(s), weather conditions wet/rain/dirt/desert etc, WL of the lucky man and others which I cannot imagine or remember to count). In my opinion a reserve which opens above a heavy guy with WL 1.6+ at terminal should not be compared to the situation when light guy with WL 1.0 opens his reserve at subterminal. Both were used once or numbers of times but the conditions in one aspect only were significantly different. The argument of a used reserve for me is the same as buying a car which must have at least 10 000 km (miles, whichever) to be sure that it works ok. Just an opinion. I'm not a rigger. Regards Janusz Edit: for me buying a used reserve includes some additional level of uncertainty as I do not know the above facts and I need fully trust to the seller. Just my point of view. Should I buy a fired Cypres to be sure that it'll work ok when needed? I don't think so. Personally I have a second hand rig but a brand new reserve and I do everything to sell it unused (good packing pays back). Back to Poland... back home. -

because I prefer this. Everything, including the choice of a new and a second-hand rig is based on our (at least mine) personal preferences. As I mentioned in my post, "in my opinion", the same as per "my preferences". Obviously a reserve is in the rig to be used when needed, however it is not intended to be used frequently. Therefore the number of jumps on a reserve decreases the value of the reserve, the same as the age of the equipment. Please note that I do not say that the reserve is less reliable or has a significant value loss, but the number of rides on a reserve has some impact on the price and the general opinion about the rig and it's owner. This is just my opinion and the way which I look at this problem. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
