loosening chest strap/leaning forward
JanuszPS replied to jf951's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I'm just a simple engineer and didn't spent lots of time thinking about that, but for me it looks quite simple - no matter what you do (if there is no additional input such rear risers) the system tends to equalize the forces, which means that the center point of gravity will be exactly on the line from the attachment point. That's how I understand that. For the suspended weight the point of rotation is the three rings, however it is one of the points in the chain of the connections. j. Back to Poland... back home. -
digits=comparison if alti installed in similar location obviously with some simplifications, that's what I meant. I'm not talking about very accurate and theoretical aspects of the true or false value. Also agree, that you might have different forward speeds but very often the slow vertical translate to horizontal in track. We speak about track and that means an intentional forward motion in order to gain distance in common sense. If I say I track for X+ s from 4000 m and with average Y km/h speed that gives some indication (by common sense) to almost everybody. Happy Xmass janusz Back to Poland... back home.

My point is: digits don't lie, otherwise I'm changing profession They're great point of reference for comparison or training janusz Back to Poland... back home.

No doubt that there are... no doubt. And so what? I have no problem with that. there always are people around with lots of talent requiring less training. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

It's always been Gelvenor for all of them (Cobalt incl Comp, Impulse, Viper, Alpha, Space). That's the reason why I'd love to stick with Cobalts or optionally give a try to ZPX (Gelvenor again but the new generation). Janusz PS. It's a pity that Radical's aren't made of Gelvenor (new or old) Back to Poland... back home.

Turns are very important, agree. That's why I nearly always start looking from above at most of the people from the formation while making the first turn. What you say is typical Big Way skill not only tracking skills, but whether with video or not the numbers say nearly everything. I would say that every organizer would know what the numbers mean. The same as they operate with the falling speeds, aren't they? I also attend BWC and know that from fact. just my opinion regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

In relation to the Impulse chart which I attached above I'm not sure how reliable information is that as there is a lot of confusion going around in relation to packing volume of all canopies - at least I'm confused. From some xls file some time downloaded from this forum I found that: Cobalt 120 has 345 cuin while from the above chart Impulse 120 has 300 cuin. good luck Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Couple of years back I found that on one Italian website and saved in *pdf* format. Hope it's about right. At the moment I don't know if the website even exists. Janusz PS Inform me please how your Impulse Comp flies as after my lovely Cob 120 I'd love to go to Cob Comp 105 or some another from Atair Cobalt family (clone). Edit: It is not for Comp version but it shouldn't vary too much Back to Poland... back home.

With all respect I don't really agree with that. Saying that I perfectly agree that when tracking in a group and following the leader shows the real ability to track, nevertheless to know how to track lots of dedicated jumps while playing with the body position and checking that against the numbers needs to be made. So knowing that my personal best is 140km/h and average about 155km/h (just wearing a straight jeans and a normal jumper) I feel comfortable at brake off and I know that I won't sink even jumping first time in a large formation, because I know how to track. Very often I jump formations with people who never have had made a single dedicated tracking jump and this is very visible. Before I jumped my first FS 10 way I already knew how to track after lots of tracking dives (mostly solo). But my problem is that I LOVE tracking just after or equally as much as WS ;-) just my opinion janusz PS: I'm not a super skinny guy, just normal average build with typical BMI Back to Poland... back home.

I'm using D40 modified to have wired remote control which cost me about €50 including a bite switch. janusz Back to Poland... back home.

with all respect, I don't think that their prices of the second hand gear are good comparing to Classifieds on dz.com or other places. I bought my first rig over the internet (German forum) when I had approx 40 jumps and everything was as has been described by the buyer. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Just a quick question - will cobalt 120 fit resonably good in V306? Anyone has an experience with that set-up? Edit: in addition Opt 126 + Cyp 2. Thanks in advance Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Another question: Cobalt 150 @ WL 1.25 - would that be acceptable and recommended by experienced wingsuit jumpers? I made 6 jumps so far on that canopy and Phantom 2 and experienced one line twist but only soft and super soft openings. Comparing to my Sabre 2 150 the openings were softer and statistically not worst in terms of line twists or better. I might have some issue with body position so that can be the main reason for line twists on Sabre which happen quite frequently (1/4 jumps). I also made couple of jumps on Cobalt 120 @ 1.6 and WS but one opening was quite hard and 180 deg so I decided not to jump with it. Any ideas? Regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

hey, I've got the camera back but I've only given a try 3x recently. A new jack port has been put into it and a bite switch I connect to it. I use AF settings. The pictures gets blur at low light but at this stage I want a light and inexpensive SLR camera which I intend to use occasionally. It's not perfect but with some mods the camera is jumpable. The mod cost was about 50/60 Euros. regards Janusz Edit: I don't jump often with SLR due to my neck injury. I have also CX105 set up to mount on the top or side so I can jump with it having SLR on top. Pictures are very reduced quality/resolution. Back to Poland... back home.

@45 second-hand Omega M, Smart 175, Cayenne 170 all 2 years old and Cyp 1 with 4 years left. Made about 70 jumps on 170 and after put into the same container Sa2 150 for another 100 jumps. All I had for about two seasons 2006 & 2007. I was quite happy about the rig - nice quality, safe and low jumps number. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

If I was buying a brand new canopy from Areodyne (assuming that my container is ok for smaller main pack volume as you said) I would defenitely get one made of ZPX for very simple reason - it is much easier to pack than the normal ZP and this is worth for me the extra couple hundred $. three of four canopies which I ever owned were made of Gelvenor and for that reason I always was hunting for a good value second-hand canopy made of Gelvenor and now I'm happy that it's back. I am a happy owner of two Cobalt's and not that happy of Sabre 2 ;-). Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

From my very recent and limited experience (first WS Prodigy dive two weekends ago and Phantom one week ago) I found Phantom 2 much easier and stable to fly than Prodigy (1) which I gave a try about 6 times. The only advantage of Prodigy is to get use to the sensation of flying and preparation for openings, body position and potential canopy problems (you can reach the risers). It's also extremely easy to wear. Other than that I wish I started straight away with Phantom's. But that's the reason why they are for. To start. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Hi, I have D40 which I sent for modification. The mod is done by someone who is not from Nikon. Cost about 50Euro plus postage in my case. I will see how it works. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Polak is "lost" in action, but not for long, can't cope with the weather any longer ;-) dzien dobry regards Janusz Edit: Polish guy with German container and AAD, French reserve and Slovenian main living in Ireland, what a mix... isn't this world interesting? Back to Poland... back home.

I have it on my container which works perfect. I bought an Omega container with 100 jumps and made myself another 200 jumps. there is no noticeable sight of wear on the straps. they work no problem, keep the leg straps in the position while in the plane so one worry less. I'm happy so far. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Exactly, get the one which fits your head best. I always was trying Z1 and finally bought Mamba as it fitted me best. And I'm very happy about it. The opening is easy. Try as many as possible. janusz Back to Poland... back home.

have you done it with camera on your helmet? that would be great to see if you post video. I'm very impressed and to be honest I thought that it is impossible on parachute canopy so near the ground. But it is very dangerous. I believe I wont see you in the incident report section as other for some strange reason say. that was great Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
