PilotDave is not talking about a "good practice" or recommendations. Life and recommendations are two different things and that what he was talking about, a situation in real life where people will tend to squeeze the smallest mains as possible (as they jump them everyday) with keeping the same (original) reserves (as they might not jump them at all) in the second-hand rigs. I see logic in it. A second -hand rig from definition is for someone who wants to save money, not buy the most expensive stuff and put into the used container. More than likely that situation can take place for the first initial 3/4 years before there is enough second-hand optimas to buy in reasonable price and replace the normal (smaller size) reserve. regs Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Ask Stane at stane(at)basetroll.com if that modification is available for Radicals. Have you tired Cobalt of the same size? I just interested in opinions about the canopy (Radical). Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

and some site note, from Radical manual I noted that the measuring method in Atair is different than PIA method and is based on the span by chord of the bottom skin. the same method applied to Cobalts as per my phone conversation and e-mail with Stane. So the size of the wing is as below: * 95 ft.2 = PIA spec 100 ft.2 * 100 ft. 2 = PIA spec 105 ft.2 * 105 ft. 2 = PIA spec 110 ft.2 * 120 ft. 2 = PIA spec 130 ft.2 * 135 ft. 2 = PIA spec 145 ft.2 * 150 ft. 2 = PIA spec 160 ft.2 Any experience with measuring Cobalts or comparing with other canopies? As my next step I was considering CC120 or Radical 120, but unfortunately there is limited info about the canopy (Radical) - not to many reviews and opinions. In terms of my current one I thought about putting the H-mod in Atair (Slovenia) as my opening process end up usually with some sort off-heading openings but soft. I would prefer to have on-heading as I try to jump in lots of BWC and large formations... I might post some picture with sequences of the opining for critics. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

As the matter of interests, which of these two classifications is Cobalt? regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

How much fabric is necessary for H-mod, Cob 135?
JanuszPS replied to JanuszPS's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi there, can anyone tell me how much fabric is necessary to make the H-mod to a Cobalt 135? I have a piece of Gelvenor fabric 67''x46'' and I wonder if that would also do for 120 in the future. Also some spare piece of my old slider the same color and type of fabric. regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home. -
I generally agree in the principle, but I'd like a precise answer how faster, how quicker, how further... I just wonder if anyone assessed the "amount" in differences so far? Is it 5, 10, 15, 20% ... ? how much it is? thanks Janusz PS I know how to calculate the drag of a bigger wing but this is just a minor difference. I'm much more interested in those general statements "much faster/quicker", etc. Back to Poland... back home.

I think is much easier to connect the canopy to another rig, rather than examine another part of the equipment. janusz Edit. I bought a sec-hand canopy which had problems on opening and flight. even very strong harness turn could not correct and stop the turn after opening. The lines were a problem. I checked the lines and first the steering lines were unevenly shrunk and secondly the suspension lines were significantly shrunk. Relining solved the problem, but it appears that it is not the case here. Back to Poland... back home.

My intuition is exactly the same. the quicker reaction the less damage. I would have thought that what usually makes damage is the vertical component of the force, in that instance the most important is the angle of the canopy and the suspended jumper hitting the ground. As Jakee I can see that the canopy changing the angle and the jumper swinging beneath the canopy. Why I was talking about 1-2 sec, because I cannot see any reaction for that period of time between the fronts and the toggles. It is obvious that the jumper started the maneuver way too late so I don't disputing with that and limiting my comments/question with this what I see on the video. I'm just really trying to understand how quicker reaction by 1-2 sec could make it any worst. any help? Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
-
Sorry, I not fully understand. from your description appears that abandoning the maneuver quicker would kill him. I have problem to imagine this as one of the exercises under a new canopy of first flights is to do a simulation of a quick release of the fronts and quick move the toggles. So my question related to an immediate move from fronts to toggles 1-2sec earlier. Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

I think also that the guy had his hands on the front risers when the video starts, which indicates the initiation and finish of the turn well too low. And the lack of quick realization what is going to happen is the most scary in that case. My thought is that if the guy quickly enough reacted on the situation (1-2 sec earlier) immediately going from fronts to toggles, more than likely there would not be any issue at all. I have never jumped Katana, so this is my speculation. Regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Just in my opinion (as I can speak for myself only) seeing someone in trouble should give food for thought to everyone or at least majority. There is always a number of people who do not want to learn from others mistakes, but not all of them. It is important what is the purpose of the video and what is the reason for watching the video. If the video is to educate (as the one attached) and scared off (i.e. fatality, bad injury) I do not see anything inappropriate of attaching one for public view in this forum. Because at the end of the day someone might change his decision and go to different canopy or hold HP landings for another year or # of jumps. I would suspect that there is very little people who would watch movies like that with a tragic final with enjoyment and for entertaining purpose. In relation to the subject, the pilot defenitely made a huge mistake and he wasn't ready for that canopy. And this is a very good reminder to myself (similar WL and jump number) to be conscious about the consequences of poor judgment and bad choice. just my point of view Regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
-
Why not? I don't understand and agree with that type of thinking. Allowing people to watch only those lucky ones, makes people (usually newbies) thinking that getting away from stupid stuff is a norm, when it isn't. Before I did my first dive I watched lots of bad landings, accidents (in the air and ground) just to educate myself about the consequences of moving beyond the edge of the plane. Also before moving to my current canopy I read and watched everything which could help me to asses the risk... Just for educational reason. In my opinion it should be widely published each time it can work for guys as me... Regards Janusz PS As a side note as a Fire Safety Engineer I watched real movies from fires just for purpose of learning as nothing better describes the power, danger and consequences of fire than the pure objective (soulless) movie which can be analyzed frame after frame. But I have (a little bit) too engineering mind, so my view might be different. Back to Poland... back home.

When I was considering Wings (2 years ago) W8 for 150/150 was an option and still is (specially taking into account that PDR 143 is about 150/151 real area as per http://www.dropzone.com/files/archive/gear/Canopy_vols.html) So that's you option than. Janusz Edit: But the best option is also ask some riggers who have experience with such a combination (W8, 150ZP, 150 Smart). Back to Poland... back home.

I don't know springo and in fact I'm not intend to try one. That's maybe because some bad opinion about the wing which I heard in the meantime... If you get Radical, give me some info as I think to get one myself... (120) My Cobalt opens nicely (after reline), before it was a wild animal... I like it very much. from this forum it seams that the Radical is something similar to Cobalt Comp (not the same but similar). Give a phone call to Stane and he will answer your questions. thanks, so where to get the information how the Manufactures measure them? I'm mostly interested in V3, Jav, Icons, VooDoo's, Wings, and ... other most popular containers ...
-
I've sent my Cobalt for reline (to Slovenia) after two shocking openings and I must say that not only openings have improved but landings also are better (not much but noticeable). Janusz Back to Poland... back home.

Sorry for bringing on an old subject, but this method does not fully comply with this which is shown in the Riggers Manual (see 7-69). Currently I'm helping someone to buy a rig and trying to figure out how to measure MLW with hip rings. regards Janusz Edit: problems with attachment http://i44.tinypic.com/2z7ebt0.jpg Back to Poland... back home.

Sanyo Xacti 1010 w/ 0,3x royal lens focus problem
JanuszPS replied to freeflydemon's topic in Photography and Video
Doesn't Sanyo have their own wide angle lenses for that particular Xacti camcorder? Wouldn't be better to use them? I'm very interested in that camera myself, so any opinion are very welcome. regards Janusz Edit: sorry for not being very helpful... Back to Poland... back home. -
I'm also interested in Sanyo Xacti camecorders. But not many information here so far. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3422375;search_string=sanyo;#3422375 regards Janusz Back to Poland... back home.
