Why? Because if he's to be the next US President, he might want to know his countries history a bit better. He said at 10 Downing Street: 'Our founding institutions were profoundly shaped by the English tradition.' Which isn't quite right. The were profoundly shaped by the Scottish Enlightenment.

If that's the case, bearing in mind I agree it would be almost impossible to fully control the border, what should be Nato's further courses of action? Are they wrong to then say: 'Border security, a key component of ISAF’s strategic vision for Afghanistan.' http://www.nato.int/isaf/docu/pressreleases/2008/04-april/pr080420-152.html If you tell me your opinion then I can fully understand you. It's my opinon that increased border security is critical. And of course, there are many other critical areas too, regarding Pakistan. In regards to strategic errors, how many do you want? Where will I begin? The end of the Afghan/USSR war? America's allowance of Pakistan a free hand in the country? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

You're gonna remain secretive about how you do it? Or is it that you just don't? You're right - I don't. Although I once scored with a godess about 11 or so years ago. She was smart, and kind, and...well, take it from me, she was perfect! So I married her. And we have 2 beautiful little kids. And we're still happily married. Usually.

California Bans Trans Fat in Restaurants and Bakeries

That's a fuckin' lie! Besides, your writing isn't exactly swear word free itself is it, or are you picking up on my bad habits? Going back to the subject, and as I mentioned earlier, . in fact fuck it, I'll quote Andy8o9 instead: "I want them to go back to using cocaine in Coca Cola, and formaldehyde in marascino cherries. Because, dammit, they just plain taste better that way. And it's all about personal choice. And that's it. (Fucken Lefties. Grrrr...)" Further to that, I appreciate people reacting in such a way as yourself. My argument isn't based on happily going ahead with whatever the government says. It's based on what I've already said a couple of times previously. Go back and read this, and you'll see. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.' -
This problem could be quite easily solved in future with powerful remote control doors. When some dickheads trying to open it, every one is told to sit and strap on. Door quickly opens, dickhead gets sucked out, preferably with a loud Slurp!. Door immediately closes. Easy!

It's kinky versus straight. Relative alignment/placement of hydrogens on double-bonded carbon. Cis unsaturated fats (or hydrocarbons) have hydrogen atoms on the same side and are kinky. Trans unsaturated fats have the hydrogen atoms on opposite sides of the double bond and are straight. Kinky doesn't pack as well and is liquid or semi-liquid at room temperature. Straight or partially straight packs better and solidifies at lower temperatures (e.g., Crisco). Saturated fats (& hydrocarbons) don't have cis or trans isomerizations -- the double bonds are saturated w/hydrogens (i.e., all single bonds). And are solids at even higher tempeatures. /Marg So if I'm understanding you properly, kinky is better than straight, right? (Homer Simpson voice)'Mmmmmmm....kinky!" Indeed! Who here knows tha the opposite of trans fat is cis fat? Betcha didn't know that! It has advantages over butter or margarine, which . It has less water content than butter, making it ideal for many baking applications. It also doesn't need refrigeration. IT takes WAY longer to go rancid. And unlike oils, lends a different crispness to many fried goods due to its higher smokepoint. Shortening is superior to butter in many ways, even though I'll admit to only using it in certain circumstances. Try seasoning a cast iron frying pan with something besides shortening and it is inferior because of rancidity issues. Ice creams have trans fats because cows produce a level of them naturally. And fatty foods can continue to be tasty without trans fats, much as pasta can be tasty without sauce and cake can be tasty without icing. I know a bit about cooking and selecting oils, etc. And I know that I like to have choices when eating. Sometimes, I just want that artery-clotting gut buster. Mate, the trans fats occuring naturally are much less harmful than man-made synthetic ones. You need a trans fat education! Read this: http://www.tfx.org.uk/page62.html http://www.fda.gov/FDAC/features/2003/503_fats.html 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" California Bans Trans Fat in Restaurants and Bakeries

Indeed. Surely you'll be able to enjoy skydiving. You'll just no longer be allowed a wingloading of under 1.2/1. There's a reason why trans fats are used. They taste good. They don't in actual fact. Like I said earlier, the only people losing out on such a ban are the crappy food producers; and even then only slightly. So what's the problem? -
California Bans Trans Fat in Restaurants and Bakeries
vortexring replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
My last child turned 18 some time ago and neither wife could boil water much less cook. My gator/shrimp/andouilli jambalaya is to kill for. We won't even get into my veal or lamb or venison or elk recipies. Trans fat is needed for certain cooking. I only weigh 140 soaking wet my whole life. Not worried about small amounts of trans fats. When the law starts dictating what we can eat. Well. Don't get me started. Neither wife couldn't boil water!? Still, I'm sure your recipes are great, but the point here is that there are safer alternatives where also the food wouldn't taste any different! It's not just about keeping the weight down too - these fats fuck your arteries up big time. You're letting yourself get mad over something that isn't worth getting mad about. By thinking like that, do you also think crystal meth should be legalized? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.' -
Considering what's been said, how on earth could you? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

You're full of shit. Provide the thinking people with your details! Your analysis and considerations! Other wise you are therefore full of shit. edit: You said: 'I won't go into detail here, but I have considered an analyzed many of the key points and found them to be so laughable I really cannot fathom how thinking people can put all their belief into them.' Prove it. -

vortexring replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Speakers Corner
Really!? Can you provide the 'thinking' people with your details then? Your considerations? Your analysis? I reckon you can't. I reckon you're talking bollox. Prove me wrong? If it's your interest, you'd do well by reading 'The Shock Doctrine' by Naomi Klein. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/30/books/review/Stiglitz-t.html http://www.naomiklein.org/shock-doctrine 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" No worries. Don't we all? edit: At least he's engaging in a forum where people can explain the reality. Of course it's frustrating when an individual can't quite see the obvious reality, but what about the millions who don't even have sensible people trying to show them that reality? Fuck! It's ok - I already have a certificate of sanity. Learn about trans fats and then perhaps your opinion may well change. In regards to freedom, I'm all for it. By banning trans fats, the only people losing out are shitty unhealthy food producers. And only slightly. You and me, we eat our shitty unhealthy foods as we like. They'll still taste the same, and we'll be fuckin' healthier for it! edit: Duh! 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.' -
Chill out Kiwi mate. I think Ian summed it all up pretty well when he said this: "Sitting here reading your posts it's pretty clear it doesn't matter what anyone says, you'll find a way to dismiss it or ask another set of questions until you get the response you want. The problem seems to be that instead of taking the opportunity to understand why someone believes something, even if you don't agree with their motives yourself, you'd rather take it as an opportunity to tell them why they shouldn't believe it. Personally, I don't have any issue with you doing that, but I wouldn't expect the conversation to really go anywhere. Anyway, back to the regular speakers corner programming..... I do cook a fair bit believe it or not. What do you reckon my children eat when my wife is at work in the evenings? I cook nice healthy meals for my kids; they love helping too - such as grating the fresh Parmigiano Reggiano for the wonderful pasta dish I'm preparing, or cutting up the parsley leaves fresh from my kitchen window sill. (It's also a brilliant way to get your children to eat if they're fussy eaters!) Trans fats are basically hydrogenated vegatable oils; generally used in cheap foods. They have literally no nutritional value whatsoever, whilst being bad for you in regards to heart disease and what have you. You probably know where you'll find these fats, but lots of people don't. Like some ice creams. Sure, fatty foods are tasty, without a doubt, and they can continue to be so using alternative means -

Sorry mate - I don't understand your last reply. SC/north Atlantic gap again? I'm all ears though. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

Mate, for goodness sake, see it for what she's saying. Whilst you may disagree with her point of view, it's her point of which you seem to be blind to. It isn't a competition. It isn't ever something to get emotional about - which, funnily enough, we all seem to be good at doing. Just be open I guess. 'Cos i'm generally always blinded by my point of view, whilst I reckon your view is actually to good to be buried under a slagging match. So there!

I've been my usual rude self and not quite given my reply to the issue in question. My reply to Ian related to a generic SC reply which could almost always apply! I just liked it. In regards to Osama, sorry, Obama..... Simple really. The world is fucked off with Prez Bush/Cheney/Rumsfield, etc policies, because they can see them for what they are. They think Obama 'might' be the solution. Who else is there!? They see the fozen chip dude as a continuance of the Bush mob. Can you excuse me for being a touch incoherant? Obama is like todays Pope in my eyes. Look into their eyes! Fuckin' look at them. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!"
