If I had to go on TV and make an ass of myself...
gearless_chris replied to waltappel's topic in The Bonfire
I wanna be on Cops running from them in my Geo Metro. I bet they run out of gas before I do. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole. -
What stock lengths do you have available? Can you make them any length? "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

I updated mine to a way more cooler number a couple years ago. I wonder how many people lower their jump numbers compared to overstating them. I'm not 100% positive that I know Stratostar's real name but I'm sure I've seen him make more than 2 jumps. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. I think you officially owe one case because you did all the firsts on the same jump. It's when you spread them out that beer gets expensive. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

I've seen a 182 jump plane doing aerobatics, back loop/barrel roll (not full of jumpers). Vector 2 would be a fine container for canopy work/bellyfling. I did a lot of back flying on mine until cutaway #5. Then I realized watching video for the year end video that I had a toggle out of the container at least a dozen times(you can see it come around in front of the camera). I don't attempt freefly with that container anymore. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

My brand new Cobalt came with the brake lines too short from the factory. I ended up replacing the brake lines with 5 inch longer lines from the cats eye to the toggle. Not all canopies are set up to run front risers. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

I agree, looks like too short brake lines. I've seen high winds do that too, but it doesn't sound that bad in the video. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

ACTUAL: Jump numbers before flying a Camera
gearless_chris replied to bomb420's topic in Photography and Video
My first was jump #133, not outside video for a while and not paid. Tandem video was a little over 300, 35mm stills around 375, digital stills around 500. I have a hard time being in the formation after doing a lot of outside video too. I tend to fly 2 feet away from my slot until I realize the missing guy is me . I only put 2 jumps on a spectre 190, but I liked it. My W/L was 1.2 at the time, it opened nice, the turns were quick. At the time is was jumping a 215 Monarch so the spectre felt like a rocket. I have a handfull of jumps on a pilot 188, W/L around 1.4. It's my favorite canopy to borrow before I got a second rig for back to backs. The pilot opens ok (not as soft as a spectre), the turns are quick, flares great. I haven't jumped a fusion yet, but I know someone that has and it sounds as nice as the pilot. Someone (might have been Beezy or George) said the fusion is the same planform as the nitron but without the hot dogs, and detuned line trim. The nitron is an awesome second canopy so the fusion might be a good first. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. VIDEO: How to build a camera helmet in 10 minutes
gearless_chris replied to The111's topic in Photography and Video
Is there some kind of liner inside? I may need to buy the instructions in a year or two when I have to switch to a top mount. Most of the store bought helmets look like the camera platform is way above your head. It would be fine in an Otter but not a 182. The one you made looks like it would be easy to shorten. anybody jumpin a "nitro" or kno anyfin bout them!
gearless_chris replied to baconwings's topic in Gear and Rigging
The Nitro/Nitrons are set up with slack in the brake lines for front riser usage. This reduces the togle stroke length and makes it less responsive and the flare starts later. I load mine at 1.5ish and can do anything I want including hovering a foot off the ground (with a bit of wind) for a few seconds. If you like the Safire better stick with it though, just explaining one reason they're different. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. I can't wait for the "talent knob". A laser sight might be fun too. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

Your arms didn't get longer did they? When you lengthen the brake lines 4 inches, the flare starts 4 inches lower in your stroke. Or another way to look at it is with your toggles all the way down, they are pulling 4 inches less on the canopy. It's better than having the canopy bucking like crazy though. "Regularity" of Jumping Question
gearless_chris replied to BerryBoy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think you can get away with it. You will have to stick with a conservative canopy, but that's ok it'll save lots of money. There are a lot of jumpers in my area that make less than 50 jumps a year, granted some of them had 500 jumps before they semi-retired. As far as are you going to be safe, the biggest concern for you is going to be the canopy flight. If your dropzone has a big landing area it would help. I'm getting the flamethrower out for ya

I'm guessing that the stall point is going to vary depending on wingloading and arm length. Maybe the manufacturers could make special reserves for heavy loads, I'd bet they won't though. I've seen reserves stall with little control input loaded around 1.6, I'm sure the same reserve with .8 loading would be fine. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. Maybe we should all jump crossbrace canopies. If we increase the main pack volume we can get a bigger container. My Comp Cobalt 150 is pretty snug in my Vector V347, sometime this year on a rainy day I'll pack the DZO's Velo 120 in it to see how it fits (I mean just pack it, not jump it, even though he says I should). I'd be real happy if I can keep this container into the 2:1 W/L sizes. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. I've seen a 2 out situation exactly once, Rantoul '06. I've seen reserve by themselves many times, 5 of my own, and many other peoples. I don't see the point in having a Cypress and a reserve if you wouldn't survive landing the reserve un-conscious anyway. Most of the time when you're under a reserve it's at a lower altitude than normal, under an un-familiar canopy, with a better chance of landing out in un-familiar territory, I'd much rather have my Raven 1 than a Micro Raven 120 just because I worked my main size down to a 120. If reserves were meant to be loaded 2:1 I might think differently though. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. I only have soft reserve handles because I figure they'll be easier to find if I drop them. Oh yeah, and because with my luck if someone at the DZ was going to get their handle pulled accidentally it'd be me. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. You mean locate your buddy, or the hackey? With my old Vector if I couldn't find the handles I'd bounce, with my new Vector depends on whether Cypress is on and working. If I can't locate my buddy, I'd roll over to make sure he's not directly above me and hope for the best when I had to pull. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. I like Duane's description of a modern day PLF, "Tuck in everything you don't want snapped off." I do a lot of butt slides just not straight on my butt, I roll over slightly onto my thigh. I usually have enough forward speed that bumps would hurt a lot if I was flat on the ground. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. Yes, They had it for Xbox 360. The whole set up, drums, mic, 2 guitars. It was great entertainment for the first few hours. They got pretty good 'till they stopped to drink, I mean eat. They played Rock Band for at least 12 hours on Saturday of the chili party at Archway skydiving. I thought they would never stop, or get tired. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
