Stay up too late the night before drinking. It will be much easier to sleep in the plane until jump run, then you won't have time to be nervous. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

I know a couple of 100 lbs. girls that jump 150 Sabres (.8 wingloading) they have had few problems with the wind. One girl has over 700 jumps on hers but she says she's old (47) and doesn't want to run. the other will go smaller when she is ready (she's mid 30's). Since you've already got the pilot keep it, and don't jump it until you get the 150 sorted out. You will probably change your mind about jumping something smaller than 150 in a hundred more jumps. I went 5th out of our 182, jump run started at 2,300' so I was probably 1,500' actual exit. I watched Scary Larry exit at 1260' once. You guys that are concerned about 5,000' exits are overly cautious, we do RW from 5,000 all the time. Back before my time, going all the way up meant 7,500 . On the bright side, Bo and Paula are planning on getting a PAC 750 twice this year. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

What is a standard and predictable pattern?

Newbie getting into camera- questions
gearless_chris replied to VTcnix's topic in Photography and Video
I choose sidemount video because I jump mostly at Cessna dropzones where there isn't much headroom in the back-back of the plane. If you have a top mount video for inside video, you have to plan the exit around where you are in the plane, not according to what would be best for that particular jump. I have a top mount still camera that I only use for outside video. With the still camera on I prefer student slot or jumpmaster slot since I will usually be first out, or last out when videoing hop-n-pop exits. Another consideration is your canopy ride, with a sidemount the left riser will want to be in the video most of the time. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. That's the whole point. We're starting a gang that's going anyways. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

So what would happen if a thousand of us show up anyway? Bring our own planes and golf carts. Those turbines are for sissies anyway, 12 ways out of 3 182's is where its's at. Besides think of all the low passes for swooping! "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

I think most of the old timers at The Richmond Boogie have decided to have the boogie whether they're invited or not. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

The FF2 from 2Kcompostites is a nice helmet. Get the chin cup cutaway. According to their website it costs $245 of their money. I think the velocity camera helmet from skydance cost me $350 assembled. The FF2 will be much lighter than the velocity. Building your own set up will probably cost more than buying one. You're not just buying the helmet ($200-300), you also have to buy the mounting bracket ($75) for L bracket-($180) for a Dbox ,chin cup ($40), eye sight ($45), and cameye 2 ($55) if you build it yourself. I had an HC30 on my Velocity helmet with the stock skydance sidemount. The cameras are the same size just different features, so yes it will. The L bracket that comes with it does not have the camera mount hole drilled so it will fit just about any camera. I had a problem with riser strikes bending the aluminum bracket and throwing the camera alignment off. You may want to have a thicker aluminum bracket made. I've got one just like that on video. You can see my shadow tracking. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

That's a good point, I was more concerned about fitment than actually using it for protection. I just got my new Skydiving magazine today and found an ad for the Aviator. The pocket (lump) looks big enough to mount the D box or L bracket to. Make sure you put the bolts as far out in the corners of the pocket as possible. The diameter of the camera will more than likely be bigger than the diameter of the pocket so you will still ned to do some gap filling. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. Attempted exit of aircraft with seatbelt still attached

I guess one of the many good things about S/L DZ's is that there usually is a knife of some kind by the door. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole. -
I don't think i have seen an aviator helmet before. Do the audible pockets stick out past the outer hard shell or are they internal? My velocity has a large pocket on the right side that sticks out. If your helmet has a large pocket (lump) on the outside of the shell on the left side, then you may want to cut it out (the hard shell). Anything you can do to keep the camera close to your head is good. The camera box will tend to hit your risers while you're checking for traffic, that's another reason to loosen your chest strap after opening if you don't already. Bonehead makes D boxes for most of the cameras we use, they are expesive though. If your helmet is slightly curved you just use shims to align it. Either clear silicone or Touch-N-Foam will fill the gaps and help make it more rigid. The top hinge pin on mine is removeable to open the box for screen access. There will be velcro on the back of the box covering the hook on the end, and JB weld to fill the small gaps between the box and helmet, and to glue in the step up ring for the circular polarizer. Definition of a swooper
gearless_chris replied to yardhippie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yup... You're a swooper-in that case anyway. You don't HAVE to do 270's to swoop. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole. -
Last year was great, even after dangling from the Casa and landing off. I loved the canopies in the air with lightning in the backround, it was real hot on the last Friday though. Looking forward to this year and whatever new jump planes I get to log. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. I've heard of a DZO that got out at 300' with a base rig. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

I just found a way to make pics small enough to attach. Here's my latest creation in process, I will be adding a still camera on top also. The big square hole is so I can get to the camera ports from the inside of the helmet. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. There's a guy I know that jumps at Goshen that uses his old raven 3 (254') for a main. He loads it about .8. He likes it fine for flying and has nice landings for a non-ZP. The openings are rough though, it is a reserve and opens quick. He just bought a new rig with a Sabre 2 to get softer openings. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. The first was a tension knot on student gear that I didn't pack. The second was a very hard opening at Richmond (the only time I didn't pack it.) cell#9 was only attached by 1 piece of binding tape, cell #8 was split front to back top&bottom, cell #7 was split front to back on the top skin, the slider ripped the toggles and hardware off the risers. Ended up replacing the harness and hardware, there are pictures of the canopy in my gallery. The third was my fault completely I only set one brake, then opened lower than I should have(2,800') I chopped it because it was spinning and couldn't see anything wrong other than endcell closure and got to decision altitude. Wasn't a neccessary cutaway but I didn't know that until we watched the video a few times. The fourth was at Richmond again. I just had a real good headdown dive when I went belly to earth I saw my right toggle loop around my arm and flapping 5' above me. Had to unwrap it before I pulled, and when it opened the toggle tied the right side risers together with the slider in a big knot so I had no way to flare. I steered to the end of the runway and chopped it. Jane had my main and freebag shortly after I landed. If the average is supposed to be a cutaway every 700 jumps, then I guess I helped keep it that high with 4 in 300 jumps

Please show a picture of the side of the helmet you want the camera on. You may be able to cut the audible pocket out of the side of the helmet. It would leave a hole, but it will be covered by the camera mount. This would keep the camera tighter against your head and away from the risers. Another choice may be the sidemount set up from skydance( makers of the velocity helmet). It comes with a box that goes between the "L" bracket and the helmet. You would have to trim the adapter box to clear the lump from your pocket though. I had problems with riser strikes bending my "L" bracket so I made my own D box enclosure. A store bought D box from bonehead could be bolted to your helmet with spacers to make up for the un-even shape. Fill the gaps between the D box and helmet with silicone after your sure it's lined up. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. Is that where you deploy the reserve, let it inflate, steer it to the side, and then chop the main? I've heard of it but haven't had the chance to try it yet. Not that I really want to.
