I'm a SHE, not a he!!!!! FEMALE!!! My lineset only has 300 jumps on it, isn't that a bit soon for a new lineset? -Chanti-

Thanks everybody! You were right - it did open the same (erratic and off-heading), but it now flies much better and is easier for me to land (smoother flare and longer distance travelled after planing out). I'll have the rigger look at the length from cascade to cat's eye. Thanks again -Chanti-

Flying in Turbulence: Big Canopies vs Small
chanti replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hey Brian! When you talk about big vs small canopies, what sort of size are we talking here for big canopies? Above 200 sq ft or above 120 sq ft etc? Also, does the same apply to higher vs lower wingloading? I.e. a 1:1 wingloading on a 120 is more susceptible to turbulence than a 1:1.5? -Chanti- -
I did a search but couldn't really find the answer I was looking for ... forgive me if this has already been posted. I noticed that my brake lines were very short, causing my canopy to fly almost in quarter brakes all the time, I had funny openings and flaring is not as effective as it used to be - so I asked my rigger to check the lines for me. He has now lengthened the lines by 30 cm (about 12 inches!) Tomorrow will be the first day I jump the canopy after this alteration. What is to be expected? How will the flight characteristics have changed? I'm worried that I might now have to hook the toggles around my ankles to flare! -Chanti-

The Caribbean people are not adrenaline junkies. When I went to Trinidad and Tobago 2 years ago, I asked at the tourist information bureau, and their exact words were: (insert Caribbean accent here!)" Nah gyal! Ya chose de wrong island, man. Here, dey cyah even fly de plane streehhht, neva mine jump outta it!" -Chanti-

This past weekend our accountant's husband shot and killed both her and himself when she told him she wanted a divorce. I guess that's why they do it. People over here are waaayyyy too trigger happy. I agree with the legislation. Why do people have to carry guns around anyway? -Chanti-

I broke my right femur in July and had my first jump back this past weekend. Check out my thread in the women's forum under "going back after injury" -Chanti-

Hi Mary I TOTALLY understand how you feel. This weekend I did my first jump back after being off for 3 months from a femur fracture (yes, skydiving-related ) I was terrified in the plane - worse than I ever felt during AFF - all that kept going through my mind was ambulances and hospitals and morphine and med techs cutting my jumpsuit off me But ya know what? It was the best thing I ever did getting back up there! I just love this sport! The fear will never completely go away, it just becomes easier to deal with. Fear is good in small doses - it keeps you aware. Good luck and when you get scared, just remember how good you feel when you've done an awesome jump!

I often have patients with funny names. My best one ever was a Chinese guy called Fat Fok (I kid you not!) The other good one was Mrs Joy Finger -Chanti-

When did you start wanting to get on a team?
chanti replied to lisamariewillbe's topic in Safety and Training
Our 4-way team came together when I had about 150 jumps (so, not very long ago!). We were friends first before we were a team and that helps a lot. In my team I am the least experienced so I totally relate to your worries about screwing up, but you'll find everyone makes mistakes even the experienced guys: in one competition our point (who at 600 jumps is the most experienced in our team) screwed up what would have been a really easy high-scoring randoms-only round when his foot slipped off the edge of the plane just before exit The key is to believe in yourself and not to worry if you do make mistakes but to learn from them. Debriefing a jump is very important - get somebody who is diplomatic to do it, that way nobody will be pointing fingers
