Were you equally incensed by IRA atrocities committed by so-called Roman Catholics? Sure, even though I'm 3/4 Irish. And by the Protestant Orange guys as well. Good point! At this point, if the Pope came out and completely sucked up to the Muslims about this and recanted, I still doubt it would be good enough... excuses from the hotheads would be akin to... oh, the pantheon! love it! raphael is interred there. i attend a mass that was celebrated there in 1999, during which it was raining outside... a column of rain descended along w/ daylight straight down through the oculus to the marble floor, making a loud splashing sound. the dome of the pantheon is an architectual masterpiece. i'd love to move there too, but the romans of today often drive me crazy! the city moves SO SLOWLY in some ways, ye they drive 10x worse than the asshats in Los Angeles! Still where else in the world can you go and see such incredible history and works of art. And for me, it's the center of my faith... no place besides Jerusalem is so important. While in Ft. Wayne on business tonight, I've picked up the following book... Crunchy Cons, How Birkenstocked Burkeans, gun-loving organic gardeners, evangelical free-range farmers, hip homeschooling mamas, right-wing nature lovers, and their diverse tribe of countercultural conservatives paln to save America (or at least the Republican Party) by Rod Dreher. Good lord what a long subtitle. Anyway, it looked pretty darned interesting to me and seemed to describe me and my wife, at least in part... can't wait to read it. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. Seeing your pic of St. Peters, if you have any interest at all in history, I recommend the new book Bascilica by R.A. Scotti... an oustanding book on the building of St. Peters. It's not at all dry or boring. Reads like a novel, full of scoundrel Popes, villianous yet brilliant artists and the one and only beautiful, eternal city of Rome. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris.
