  1. You, and others, keep saying that. I never saw anyone called a racist for opposing Obama's policies. Making jokes about fried chicken and ho slappin, yes that was rigthtly labeled racist. I really can't remember anyone throwing the racist flag on other things. - Dan G
  2. Oh, you mean Karl. Why didn't you say so? - Dan G
  3. We don't agree about much, apparently. The democrats do not support more welfare. If that's the simplistic view of the whole party you hold, then it will be pretty hard to convinve you otherwise. I certainly don't agree that what he is doing is wrong. Not sure how you made that leap in the argument. - Dan G
  4. I agree that Carl's Jr. makes a tasty burger, but why do you think they should run the country? - Dan G
  5. Wow is right. We really need a sarcasm thingy. You're not new to SC, I can't believe you've never seen a right-winger decry the sheep/people (sheeple) following thier messiah. I was commenting on that. I am not a Marxist, and neither is Obama. I think having someone who provides a positive example for kids to work hard, stay in school, and perservere is a good educational strategy. Marxist, probably not. If the right's moral values don't include hard work, education, and perserverence in the face of adversity, then I suppose you are right that Obama's example might have a corrupting influence. - Dan G
  6. I guess I was reading the revised ones. Thanks for pointing that out. Are there objections to the revised lesson plans? They appear to be pretty narrowly focused on perserverance and responsibility. - Dan G
  7. Have you actually been to a black church during election season? Somehow I doubt it. From http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=96099,00.html What were you saying again about the legality of tax-exempt churches and political activity? - Dan G
  8. I suppose you are right. However, I don't see that question anywhere in the quoted materials. Did I miss it somewhere? - Dan G
  9. Only if you think that everyone agrees what constitutes "nanny state" spending. You have a reputation of being very libertarian in your views, which I respect. I have a feeling that spending you believe is "nanny state", many other people would see as a normal and necessary function of government. It's all about where to draw the line. - Dan G
  10. Are you talking about Notre Dame? If you are, maybe I recall it differently, but I remember all the activist trying to make it about abortion, and Obama trying to avoid that topic. - Dan G
  11. Sure, as long as they give up their tax-exempt status. How many have done that? - Dan G
  12. Your reference to the other thread is too subtle for people around here nowadays. OJ is innocent, but he also killed them both. Just like the guy in Texas was guilty, but he probably didn't kill his kids. - Dan G
  13. I haven't read the article yet (it's hella long) but from the synopsis it said that almost all of the evidence against him was forensic, and it was all shown later to be faulty. His initial attorneys did not question any of the bad forensic evidence, and when later experts presented new evidence that the original forensics were not valid, their evidence was not considered. He was declared guilty. Whether he was actually proven guilty is apparently debatable. - Dan G
  14. Actually, I think that's what the political debate in this country is primarily about: where to draw the line. If it were as obvious as you think it is, we would have no need for Speakers Corner. - Dan G
  15. and then... So I guess you're one of them, too. - Dan G
  16. I didn't say that everyone who opposes Obama's policies is a paranoid dead-ender. You made that leap yourself. I just said that the paranoid dead-enders will find something to object to in every little thing he does, no matter how innocuous. I'd love to see people discuss the issues around here. Unfortunately, most of the debate around here revolves around lies, exaggerations, and yes, paranoid fantasies promulgated by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, and O'Reilly. On this topic, there is no rational way to discuss it. It's like having a rational discussion about the boogeyman with a four year old. The kid will keep believing that the boogeyman is hiding in the closet no matter how many times you explain how unlikely it is. And no, I'm not calling anyone a four-year old, just the mindset that Obama MUST have an ulterior motive for everything he does is akin to the irrational fear of a child. - Dan G
  17. No one will take your bet because the bet was, "I'll bet what he says is controversial" (paraphrasing) Of course in your mind it will be controversial. Everything he does to paranoid dead-enders is controversial. If he sat there are read Dr. Suess you'd find something controversial. For fucks sake if he read the goddamn phone book you'd say it was controversial. Listen to yourself. You have nothing to say except, "Obama bad" - Dan G
  18. Hmm, really? Bush wasn't speaking to a bunch of kids at a school on 9-11? Were those videos faked? Biased much? He's the fucking President of the United States. I trust his motives just as much as I trusted any other Presidents'. If you don't trust the motives of the highest elected official in the land on something as simple as a speech to children, then I really feel sorry for you. If real time video technology were then what it is today, I have no doubt that previous Presidents would have taken the opportunity to do something similar. The "to-do" list is a suggested lesson plan. If you are as involved in your children's education as you want us to believe, it should not be a foreign concept. - Dan G
  19. You said yourself to read the comments to the article. Nazism was mentioned more than once. The fact that the President can't give a speech tailored to students without being accused of trying to indoctrinate them into his Marxist ideology really makes me fear for the future of rational discourse in the country. The angry mob seems to be the only tool the right wings has. And no, I didn't know what Reagan was going to say. It was cool that he took the time to speak to high school students about education, and no one accused him of anything other than being interested in the nation's youth and their progress. And I call absolute bullshit on your being upset if Bush gave a speech to students. Where are your posts decrying his presence in that kindergarden on 9-11. How dare he read a book about ducks to little kids! Did the parents know what book he was going to read ahead of time? Bullshit, I say. - Dan G
  20. Wow, I had no idea that when President Reagan visited my high school that it was a tool to indoctrinate me into a Nazi brotherhood. I was pretty psyched about it at the time. Why is it different for Obama again? - Dan G
  21. I'm prefering the current resurgence of HDIF (Hitler did it first). - Dan G
  22. Can you guys just whip out your frontal lobes and see whose is bigger? - Dan G
  23. The price differential really kicks in when you are competent (read safe) enough to fly in the tunnel with your friends. At your quoted prices, a four way is now $3 a jump per person! And yes, you are thinking about it right. The tunnel is a great tool, and a fun activity all by itself, but it can't teach you everything you need to know about skydiving. - Dan G
  24. Hey, you already did it for me. Thanks! Now care to post the results? - Dan G
