  1. It's pretty obvious you have no idea what you are talking about. Tiger Woods just hits a little white ball with a big metal stick. The ball is just sitting there! How hard can that be? - Dan G
  2. And everyone who says that probably couldn't get 10 points out of that draw. Just because they make it look easy doesn't mean it's actually easy. - Dan G
  3. Your link to the BBC article is no good. A search using the supposedly quoted sentance is not fruitful. Care to try again with your link? - Dan G
  4. My point is contained in your link. They signed an agreement about coming up with an agreement. There is no pipeline. If that were the reason for the US invasion, don't you think we'd have made more progress on it by now? The only people going on about a pipeline are the conspiracy nutjobs who think we never landed on the moon, GWB brought down the Towers, JFK was killed by the mob, and Pamela Anderson's tits are real. I know critical thinking is not the strong suit of conspiracy theorists, but try real hard. - Dan G
  5. You sure about that? Last I heard the deal was never even finalized between Unocal and the Afghan government. Maybe your sources are better than mine. Of course, your sources say that GWB brought down the twin towers, so maybe they're not so good after all. Why am I bothering? Your ideas are complete shit. - Dan G
  6. Open is the top class. The winner of Open will be selected as the US Team (during "on" years, but that's another story). Advanced has the same draw as Open. Intermediate has a different draw with shorter sequences and some of the more challenging blocks taken out of the pool. And yes, they are that good. - Dan G
  7. I qualified for EIC one year when I was in schoool and only working part time. No kids. The original premise you are complaining about is false. - Dan G
  8. Yeah, I lost my arm last fall. That blew. I was able to deal with it only because I had a fair amount of practice flying with one hand, but there were other issues I hadn't thought of (like getting to both toggles in the first place.) No matter how secure your prosthetic is, you have to assume that at some point you'll either lose it, or lose control of it, and plan accordingly. - Dan G
  9. How's that project coming, cliff? Surely if the US could pull off the 9-11 hoax, it would be a piece of cake to get that pipeline built in the last 8 years. So, where's my cheap Turkmeni gas? Or maybe it's not about a pipeline...hmmm. - Dan G
  10. Do you still have your elbow? As you know, it makes a world of difference in everyday life, and can make a huge difference in how you fly the parachute after you've deployed. Definitely get with another arm amputee before jumping and discuss the ins and outs. There are some things that able bodied folks take for granted that us amputees can't. Your emergency procedures need to include the not only parachute malfunctions, but prosthetic malfunctions. An able bodied instructor can't help you with that. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more. I'm a right BE, but I was an experienced jumper before I lost my arm. - Dan G
  11. We've tried to discuss the issues you raised. You've chosen not to listen. - Dan G
  12. It seems that you think everyone else's anecdotal tales are unimportant, but that your's are God's own truth. Give the "single data point" argument a rest. My opinion is that at 25 jumps there is no difference between the methods. Yes, that is just my opinion, just like your opinion is just your opinion. I am not a proponent of AFF over static line. I think they are both equally good. With the proper application of the ISP, the only difference between static line and AFF is how the student gets to Cat D. After that, the programs merge. Why you think a student who does five static lines is substantially better than one who does three two jumpermaster freefalls is beyond me. - Dan G
  13. You must live an a dark world. The US is run by a Kenyan/Indonesian Communist Black Muslim who pals around with terrorists and hates America. When will your nightmare end? For the record, I disagree with the Nobel Committee's choice, although I think in the long run it could be a positive for America. - Dan G
  14. Wow. You still believe Obama is a muslim? Is he even an American in your world? Probably a Kenyan, huh? Sorry I asked. - Dan G
  15. "Not needed" is not the same as "not done". I learned static line. At 15 jumps I was signed off as a free bird and didn't know shit about freefall skils. My canopy skills, spotting, packing, etc. were just as good as someone who had 15 jumps and started with AFF. I got there cheaper, so it was right for me, but I think I would have been better rounded by doing AFF. After 50 jumps, it doesn't matter anyway. - Dan G
  16. What makes you think they don't get the same treatment? - Dan G
  17. It will probably take at least a year. The irresponsible reporter makes the giant leap that the only place a bomb like this might we used is against Iran. And all you people have completely bought it (not you, quade). How about we consider the possibility that it could be used against the original target, namely mountain caves in Afghanistan? - Dan G
  18. That's Mark Schlatter (I may be misspelling the name). He's registered a number of ID's here to continue his incoherent ranting. If you want to bitch about someone ruining relations with the FAA, he's a great place to start. His daily letters to the FAA make us all look like a bunch of loons. Just my opinion. - Dan G
  19. There was an interesting article in Air & Space last month about new efforts at stealth. Researchers have used special composite materials tuned to specific wavelengths to bend radiation (infrared IIRC) around a body and emit it back out the other side. I wonder if something like this might be the solution to the radiation problem. Instead of trying to absorb or reflect it, just refract it around the ship. - Dan G
  20. My driving skills are horrendous. Viscious slice. I can chip and putt okay, though. - Dan G
  21. Nice twist of my words and intentional misunderstanding. SC at its best. - Dan G
  22. I think I see where you are coming from, but not sure I really agree. If you mean that we need to focus on the civilian side and work to remove the attraction to extremism, then I agree. If you mean that we should pull all troops and other support and try to go after AQ with a law enforcement stance, then I heartily disagree. What are you proposing? - Dan G
  23. Their motivations may be similar, their tactics are arguably similar, but the view of the local populace (a key, if not THE key element in COIN) is not the same. The Soviets were seen as invaders. The US, at least up until 2005 when I left for good, were seen as liberators. We had very strong support from the local population. I don't believe the Soviets ever had that. McChrystal and Petraeus understand how important that is. I don't think the Soviets ever got it. - Dan G
  24. Strongly disagree. The local population does NOT view us in the same light as the Soviets. They may start to if we don't reduce civilian casualties and put an Afghan faace on the conflict, but they don'tr at this point. He's both. - Dan G
