  1. I know I'm going to get shit for this, but try it while being black. They probably won't call the SWAT team, but I doubt all you'd get is a friendly wave. - Dan G
  2. My wife used to work for an elderly care organization. Many of their clients were rural blacks. They don't have jobs now, although they had worked their whole lives. How many eighty year olds have jobs? They may not have filed taxes, I'm not sure, but I don't think a SSN was required until the last couple of decades. Many of these people did not have running water, and most did not have bank accounts. Their lives were anything but modern. And yes, people like that are entitled to vote. I'm not against ensuring one man, one vote, but these requirements must be structured in such a way that no one is disenfranchised. Requiring a government ID that you have to pay for, travel to a specific location far away to get, and may not even be able to obtain if you don't have other paperwork, will disenfranchise people. - Dan G
  3. ...her sister is out of town? - Dan G
  4. Birth certificates and social security numbers are not valid picture IDs. And yes, many older and rural people do not have a valid copy of their birth certificate, and may have never gotten a social security number. - Dan G
  5. Ah, so it really has nothing to do with responsibility, morality, or decency. You just think its gross. Where's that honesty you keep talking about? - Dan G
  6. So if a gay man is married to another man, then their monogamous sex is okay with you? - Dan G
  7. Dude, if Bill said he was mere minutes away from perfecting cold fusion, you'd still say it wouldn't be a game changer. Your mind is made up. - Dan G
  8. Pretty sure the guy who controls the Army is half black, half white. Police, that depends on the jurisdiction. You're pretty entertaining, I must say. It would be pretty scary/sad if you actually believed some of the crap you post. - Dan G
  9. Well then, holding your breath will make it very hard to concentrate on your work. I think it's excellent advice. - Dan G
  10. I think bias crime laws are bullshit. I know other "liberals" (by SC standards) who feel the same way. Is it possible that the vast conspiracy of liberals who all think the same way and want to take your freedoms is partly of your own imagining? - Dan G
  11. Amazing. Will you at least admit that some conservatives (hint, hint) do the exact same thing? - Dan G
  12. Do you really not see the irony in your repeated complaints about liberals stereotyping? - Dan G
  13. You're assuming everyone voted for him because he's half-black. Open your mind to the possibility that people voted for him because he was the best choice available. - Dan G
  14. We had the timing belt and a bunch of other stuff done. I think they did the water pump, maybe the head gasket, some brake work, etc. Either way, the price of a car with 118k miles should certainly take completed or uncompleted scheduled maintenance into account. - Dan G
  15. My wife's (formerly my) Subaru Forester has about 125k on it, and it runs fine. The maintenance someone mentioned above (105k scheduled) cost us over $2400. If the Subaru hasn't had that maintenance yet, walk away, or get them to drop the price accordingly. - Dan G
  16. Blacks voted for Kerry at a rate very close to the rate they voted for Obama. They did turn out at a greater rate for Obama. Make of that what you will. The fact that you think Obama is far left says more about you than him. He's pretty centerist. - Dan G
  17. Um, yeah, I do. I never said Romney was unsuccessful. In fact, just the opposite. He's been phenomenally successful. But so has Obama. - Dan G
  18. I'd say getting elected President demonstrates one has achieved a rather high level of success in their life. I guess that's just me. - Dan G
  19. Seriously? That was one of the main complaints of the Occupy hippies! Liberal = anything marks2065 doesn't like - Dan G
  20. I will if they ever get off my lawn. - Dan G
  21. Canada doesn't need much of a military. They have ours. And it's really disingenuous to pretend that the bulk of our military spending hasn't recently (read last 20 years) been in the Middle East. The only thing they have of any value is oil. Do you really think we'd put up with the Saudi's shit if they didn't control OPEC? - Dan G
  22. Troops on the ground is not the only protection offered. It could be argued that the primary responsibility of the peacetime Navy is maintenance of shipping lanes. Iran only talking about a Persian Gulf blockade resulted in the repositioning of Naval forces. They weren't doing that to protect the flow of hummus. - Dan G
  23. I find it funny that the same people who think the gun store owner should be allowed to open anywhere, shit their pants when a porn shop tries to move in. If a community has the right to ban a porn store, they have the right to ban a gun store. I personally wouldn't care if either one opened in my area, but a lot of people do. - Dan G
  24. Not sure it's what SkyDekker meant, but their supply is protected by the largest, most powerful, and most expensive military the world has ever seen. - Dan G
