  1. Very experienced jumper (+4000 jumps) went in at Orange a number of years ago with a twisted ROL. Of course, pulling silver would have saved his life, but that's not what happened for whatever reason. I had two left handed Javelin Odysseys. When I wanted to sell them, I sent them back to the factory for conversion to right handed. You'd never know they weren't made that way originally. Moral of the story, even if a used rig has a bridle channel, it can be changed between left and right handed. It cost about $200 IIRC. - Dan G
  2. What I see is you using any and all excuses to get a cheap dig at the President. It's pathetic. - Dan G
  3. Upon reflection, I see your point. This is certainly a better use of Navy SEALs than strangling orphans with fresh puppy guts. Which we all know is what Obama wants to use them for. - Dan G
  4. When were SEAL teams used to murder American citizens? - Dan G
  5. No, I don't remember that. Please refresh my memory. - Dan G
  6. Please note, I said same scale, not same rate. I think it is reasonable to have different rates at the very low end, to make sure people can afford basic necessities like food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare. Once your income rises above the subsistence level, I'm fine with a flat tax. - Dan G
  7. Sex ed should be taught in biology cless, just like the function of other body parts are taught in biology class. The genitals are not evil. Deciding not to teach kids about their parts is taking on a social issue, not the other way around. - Dan G
  8. My second grade teacher taught me something I still remember well. It was during a vocabulary lesson. She asked what a certain word meant, and I tried unsuccessfully to define it. I ended with saying something like, "I can't explain it, but I know what it means." Her lesson: If you can't explain it to someone else, you don't really know it. - Dan G
  9. Apparently people are confusing the issues of "what is" and "what should be". My point is not that Romney is breaking the current law with the amount of tax he's paying. My point is that the tax code should be changed so everyone pays on the same scale, regardless of how their income is derived. - Dan G
  10. Once again in English, please. I do not pay the capital gains rate on my salary, if that's what "And you do" is supposed to mean. If you're reporting your salary as capital gains, you should expect a call from the IRS eventually. - Dan G
  11. Using that logic, my salary was first taxed at the 35% corrporate rate, too. So should I only pay 15% on it? - Dan G
  12. Apparently he was refering to his own ignorance. - Dan G
  13. That's good to know. So then why do we spend so much time/effort/money/lives worrying about the Middle East? Fuck 'em, we apparently don't need 'em. - Dan G
  14. The reason why I'm reluctant to promote expanded drilling in the States is because I worry that we'll drill everything we have, and still not have alternatives ready. We really do need to start getting our ducks in a row. Allowing unfettered drilling will only delay reasearch, while compressing the time we have until we run out. Also, it should be noted that an increase in drilling does not necessarily equate to cheaper and more available domestic sources of oil. Oil companies currently export a portion of their domestic oil products, so it's not like we'd really be changing the domestic/imported balance as much as people like to think. - Dan G
  15. And another thing. You assume I hold my position beause I'm some green eco-Nazi. You're wrong. I hold my position because I want to se America free itself from foreign dependance. If we get off the Saudi oil tit, we can tell the entire Middle East to go fuck itself (Israel included) and they can spend all their energy killing each other instead of messing with us. Right now we deal with ,and protect at great expense, various unfriendly nations because we need their oil. If we don't need their oil anymore, we'll save money and be safer. - Dan G
  16. Did I say that we had to make the switch overnight? I don't think I did. If you're worried about international competition, you're apparent position is the worst case. Keep burning foreign oil while China invests in developing the next generation energy technology. When we run out of oil, we'll still be dependant on foreigners because we never figured out how to do cheap solar or safe nuclear. Great plan. - Dan G
  17. Of course they didn't play it the same. It's not the same. What the enemy did to our men was infinitely worse that what these Marines did. On the other hand, this incident is OUR troops doing wrong. We expect better of our professional fighting men, and we should. What the Marines did is certainly not as horrendous as what the enemy did in Mogadishu and Fallujia, but our expectations are much higher for our men. Anyone who thinks we should gauge their actions against what has been done to us in the past, is saying America is no better than a bunch of drugged up, uneducated, Somalian savages. I think we're better. Apparently, some people disagree. - Dan G
  18. Yep. Utter. The treatment of our men in both situations mentioned by West was roundly denounced. He tries to make it sound like "the media" was fine with it, which is complete and utter BS. Anything of substance to add? - Dan G
  19. At least West admits the Marines were wrong, but this line is utter bullshit: PS, I have been shot at by the Taliban, so please don't tell me to shut up. - Dan G
  20. From the article: Looks like it may have been started by Clinton, and funding was maintained by Bush. I don't think we can blame this entirely on Obama's pandering. - Dan G
  21. Would it be rude to butt in here and say, "I TOLD YOU SO!!!" Conclusion: hypothesis confirmed. - Dan G
  22. May I consider that a peer review? - Dan G
  23. Um, yeah. That's why I said baseline power should be provided by nuclear. I think electric cars and trucks (charged with said nuclear power) should be the way to go. For aircraft, biofuels are probably a better alternative for the near term future. - Dan G
  24. Whatever works best. That's why you have to research it. At this point I think the best alternative is baseline power provided by nuclear, with solar, hydro, and biomass assisting in the areas where their strengths lie. - Dan G
  25. Peer review doesn't mean that you go and duplicate the research. If someone is willing to change his results, it will take some time to discover. I think Kallend's point is that once the fraud is discovered, the scientific community polices it's own, unlike other communities. Here's my scientific hypothesis regarding this thread: it will either be 100% bickering about climate change, or 100% bickering about creationism within four posts. Let the experiment begin. - Dan G
