  1. They're just trying to fill in time. The talking head gotta talk. In fairness, they also said it could be a foreign terrorist with ties to AQ, but that the type of bomb was not typical for AQ trained groups. They also said that it could be a lone wolf with sympathies for any number of extremist views. Yes, including right wing views. When I saw more details I immediately thought of the Atlanta Olympic bombings. Not because of the political views of Eric Rudolph, but because of the circumstances, tactics, and type of explosives. I doubt this attack was carried out by an organized foreign group. I think it was a lone wolf, but there's no way to know the motivation at this point. - Dan G
  2. Don't you have anything better to do? You burned your bridges here. Move on and live your life. Seriously, you'll be happier. - Dan G
  3. You should read some of your own posts. When you continually says that everyone who drives a hybrid or believes man is damaging the planet is a liberal eco-nut asshole, you can expect people to get defensive, just like you get defensive when people call you "uneducated". - Dan G
  4. When there are literally hundreds, if not thousands of other people standing there, many of whom are medical professionals from the aid tents? He should stay out of the way and keep filming. - Dan G
  5. Are you frowny-facing at the insult you just threw at yourself? He didn't call you uneducated, you just threw that in there as if he did. That's not contributing to polite discourse. - Dan G
  6. Wait, I thought it was EV/hybrid drivers? Maybe everyone in Iowa sucks at driving. - Dan G
  7. Actually, I think most people are already there. Here's how I see the debate: 1. Is the climate changing? Side 1: No, the climate is perfectly stable. (and if it isn't, it doesn't matter.) Side 2: Yes, the climate is changing so fast that we're all doomed! Middle: Yes, the climate is slowly changing. 2. Why is the climate changing? Side 1: The climate's not changing. (but if it is, it's perfectly natural and nothing to worry about.) Side 2: Man's output of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses is causing the climate to change. Middle: Man is having some impact on the changing climate, but there are probably other forces at work, too. 3. Is climate change bad? Side 1: Dammit, the climate is not changing! (but if it is the good and bad aspects will cancel each other out.) Side 2: See above, we're all doomed! Middle: There will likely be some negative aspects to climate change, some of which we can't foresee. 4. Can we do anything about it? Side 1: About what? (and if there was a problem, man couldn't do anything about it anyway.) Side 2: If everyone stops using oil today, we can save the planet, but otherwise we're doomed! Middle: Reducing our dependence on oil and other carbon based fuel sources can have an impact on climate change. The problem is that the debate has become an us vs. them, which tends to attract people who enjoy digging in and fighting it out more than they enjoy learning about the world around them. - Dan G
  8. I have no problem with trucks. My wife drives a pickup, and they don't pick up our trash here, either. It's the giant trucks with chrome and "No Fat Chicks" stickers (drivers generally a fat unwashed male), or the Escalade sized SUVs with soccer stickers and stick figure families (driver invariably an overdone, middle-aged woman on the cell phone) that have to go 1mph over parking lot speed bumps that drive me crazy. - Dan G
  9. That's awesome. You get called on BS, so you expand your insult to encompass even more people. If I had to generalize, people who drive oversized trucks which have clearly never seen dirt or hauled lumber are some of the most obnoxious drivers out there. Of course I'm way too wholesome and righteous to engage in generalizations. After all, I drive a Prius. - Dan G
  10. There must have been an absolute flurry of EV sale in Iowa in the last three months. This article(http://globegazette.com/news/iowa/electric-cars-may-face-iowa-registration-fee-jump/article_735ea3be-5a7e-11e2-994e-0019bb2963f4.html) says there were only 41 registered in the entire state in January. Perhaps you meant hybrids? - Dan G
  11. You don't chlorinate your pool? How do you keep bacteria and algae from growing? - Dan G
  12. In all fairness, my representative is very intelligent. I still think he might be sub-human. - Dan G
  13. What if my Congressman is sub-human? Can I use feces or some other flung projectile instead? I'm afraid he won't respond to this fancy "writing" you promote. - Dan G
  14. So, if I understand correctly, your objection is that every transaction would be checked, instead of every buyer, which is not only less efficient (and possibly chilling to legal buyers because it it takes time and hassle), but also a backdoor to universal registration? I get that, although if the government decides to confiscate all guns, it really doesn't matter if they know you own one or ten, they're coming to kick in your door anyway. I appreciate the response, but my question still stands. How is this proposal any different from what is already being done? If you object to the status quo, then that's one thing, but the arguments here seem to say that the proposed universal background checks are somehow an incremental step toward registration. If the proposal doesn't change the de jure or de facto procedures, how can this be viewed as a threatening change? - Dan G
  15. You didn't answer the question. If the sales are already covered, what is the onerous effect of this proposal? Do you simply object that it is a superfluous law, or do you think the proposed law will prevent or obstruct legitimate purchases? - Dan G
  16. So if every transaction is currently subject to a background check, why are people objecting? What's the change that will affect legal gun buyers? I honestly don't understand. - Dan G
  17. So you're ready to admit that the tattoo was an intentional "fuck you" to people of that religion? - Dan G
  18. Professionals of any walk of life don't go around bragging about their professional accomplishments. Soldiers are not exempted. - Dan G
  19. Are you aware that Syria and Afghanistan are not the same place? - Dan G
  20. Wow, so on a Samsung I can make a swiping motion to get that info, where on my iPhone I have to make a tapping motion? Truly revolutionary. - Dan G
  21. My wife used to work student manifest. When students (and instructors, vidiots, etc.) would walk up and ask her when the weather was going to clear, she'd just point at and say, "Ask the rock." - Dan G
  22. Shockingly, I agree with OHCHUTE, except for the IVF and adoption part. If a single person wants to have a baby through IVF, or adopt a baby, and they can support it, they should be allowed to. - Dan G

This from a guy who wholeheartedly supports the Citizens United decision? When Congress tried to put limits on corporate influence you cheered when they got bitch slapped by the SC. You can't have unlimited, secret spending on campaigns, and simultaneously have limited corporate influence on elections. The two are mutually exclusive. - Dan G
