Perhaps some zoos can be used to educate. I think the unacceptable side effect is to desensitize children (and adults for that matter) to animal cruelty. When the only exposure people have to animals is watching them through a glass wall, it's hard to make the connection to what their lives are like in the wild. Even the best zoos don't provide a normal life for the animals. Circuses are nothing but systemitized animal crualty. IMHO the only reason they are allowed at all is tradition. Rehab refuges, on the other hand, are not only more educational, but actually serve the animals instead of imprisoning them. I love going to rehab facilities, especially bird facilities. I won't go to traditional zoos or circuses. - Dan G

Romney was mocked for the conclusion he drew, not the factual statement. He didn't stop at noting that 47% of people don't pay incomde tax. He concluded that those people were all lazy welfare queens and wouldn't vote Republican because they rely on the evil Democrats to pay for their chrome rims (paraphrasing). - Dan G

A special relationship doesn't mean the parties agree on every little thing. Canada's special relationship with the US will never go away unless our geography changes significantly, which is unlikely. - Dan G -
The sensitivity will likely reduce with time. When I lost my arm, even the thought of touching the end of the stump was painful. Within a few months I could do full push-ups on it. You'll figure out how to work around it. If you have access to Occupational Therapy, they might be able to give you some ideas on how to safely work on reducing the sensitivity. - Dan G
