Thanks. I did IOBC, but was a lousy infantry officer. I'm not a hyper-Type A personality, and was never a PT stud. I was never in an Infantry unit, since they were decommissioning all the Reserve Infantry units at the time (1993). I was a much better Civil Affairs Officer. I served 8 years with my CA Battalion, two almost full tours in Afghanistan (18 mos. total), was wounded, and retired due to permanent disability. - Dan G -

I was an Army Reserve Civil Affairs Officer. No, not Public Affairs, Civil Affairs. It is a Combat Support branch. I served two tours in Afghanistan, and was stationed at small, remote bases during both. I spent more time outside the wire than most. I never fired my weapon in anger, but was on the receiving end of indirect fire many times, and one particularly notable IED attack. I don't pretend to be a super-soldier, or a hero. I served, and I'm proud of what I did. How about you? - Dan G -

I don't denigrate anyone's military service, except those who served dishonorably. I also don't denigrate people who didn't serve. Military service is, and should be, voluntary. The only civilians I have no respect for are those who claim service they didn't do. Exactly. Tell that to the OP. I was in the Army. Army Reserves, actually. What makes a Marine more "fully qualified" than a soldier? All soldiers do either Basic Training or an Officer Basic Course. These include combat training. Do Marines do more? Do they regularly re-qualify to infantry standards? - Dan G -

I take exception with any service member criticizing another's service. It shows a profound lack of professionalism. I also take great exception at trying to characterize military service in a "liberal" vs. "conservative" light. It's bullshit on the highest order. - Dan G -

Really? Then why are so many people going to the website? - Dan G -
I haven't given up. I might work on it next year. Of course, I don't jump anymore either. I do have another engine to burn fuel in, though. It's only 180hp, but it has wings attached.

I've looked into track days. One reason I haven't done it yet is the hoops I'll have to jump through to get a medical statement (I'm an amputee). I drive a 2010 Infiniti G37x. - Dan G

What is hypocritical? I never said people shouldn't be allowed to drive whatever they want. I just don't think that people who drive gas guzzlers should complain about the cost. I'm dying to know what you think is hypocritical about my choice of car. - Dan G

I think everyone should have the same rights. How very liberal of me. - Dan G

What is says is that I spend about 2.5 hours in the car every day, like to drive, and got a raise. The Prius was a truly great car, but I wanted a change. That's pretty much all it says. - Dan G
-
Pussy. I have 330hp and no green button. Of course, I pushed a Prius for 170k miles before I started burning a lot of dino juice. My next car will be more eco friendly, but right now I'm enjoying the power. I also have no problem paying higher taxes to subsidize electric car development. - Dan G
-
I can see how that would be annoying, but where do you draw the line? What about people on Social Security? Or people geting disability? Do we want the government telling them what they can buy? - Dan G
-
You're new here, so I'll explain. Everytime someone in the country buys a Volt, brenthutch sheds a tear. Involuntarily, he can't help it. brenthutch is against all forms of transportation that do not involve burning as much fossil fuel as possible. The heater in his car runs on propane. His bicycle is coal fired. I even heard his shoes have little gasoline reserviors that squirt a little out with each step. - Dan G

I don't get this. Are you saying that people who receive government assistance should not be allowed to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes? - Dan G

My employer does not pay 100%. My payments actually went up for less coverage. Our "Benefits Fair" is tomorrow. Since I have TriCare (retired military) and VA benefits, I'm seriously considering opting out of my employer sponsored healthcare. - Dan G

My company transitioned to a "high deductible" health plan. It essentially covers catastrophic events, and not much else. I get one free physical a year. Otherwise, it pays jack shit until I've coughed up $5,000 of my own. Premiums went up, too. Unfortunately, they did it before the ACA, so you can't blame it on Obama. - Dan G

Then why make the post? DrewEckhart gave you some good, detailed answers. Instead of responding to him in a meaningful way, you chose to throw out some meaningless one liners. Why bother? - Dan G

I'm starting to get the feeling that you weren't really looking for an answer to your question... - Dan G
