  1. Summer of 1997, someone I new from my old dropzone was doing an accuracy jump and had a mal. She cut away but did not deploy until it was basically too late. I was not there but I was told that the canopy was just barely beginning to inflate when she hit. The dropzone was very sombre for the next few days and I remember not knowing what to say to her boyfreind (I am the clumsiest person in the world when it comes to condolences and while I mean well, my words always come out wrong and I feel I leave the person feeling worse so I generally avoid speaking). The first jump I had done since the accident was 2 days later and I remember for the first time realy considering the possibility of mortality in the sport as I practiced my cutaway procedures with peculiar interest. 2. I think as a result of an overzealous media who wanted to sensationalize on skydiver deaths, the skydiving community responded with classic overcompensation propaganda (safer than crossing street, driving,...etc) and as a result the present denial seems to have crept into the mindsets of many participants. The first (and thankfully only) time someone I knew personally died jumping I remember being astounded that such a thing could happen ( yes I know...ignorance). When I did my first jump two days after the accident I remember meticulously going over the cutaway procedure with a level of interest that I had not shown since my first jump course. 3. My condolences to all of you who were close to Shannon. I did not know her personally, however you can tell a lot about a person based on their message board conversation, and having read her posts I could tell she was a really great person who's passing is a tragic loss. My sympathies, Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  5. I try to avoid wasting good energy holding a grudge, particularly since sitting there obsessing over how angry I am at the person only serves to make me bitter while this person goes on with his/her life. That said I do not ever forget what the person did. The reason for that is I find that people who backstab me have this irritating tendency to start buddying up with me after some time has passed as though they think they can still get something out of me. While I do not seek revenge, I will not likely ever trust the person again, regardless of how much time has passed or how nice they are acting now, because people like that rarely ever change. 6. Usually I have difficulty deploying my parachute. Either it is a hard pull or I cannot find my pilot chute. I bounce each time but I always survive without any harm. 7. I think you may have misunderstood me. I was not asking if we should, I was just stating that we shouldn't. I did not however support my position like you did. Nonetheless, I agree with you 100%. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  9. Not big into hero worship, but as far as highly respecting people; Buck Whalley: Re-motivated me when I was becoming discouraged with my progression in the sport. Norm Forbes: Generally always willing to give plenty of his time and attention to anyone who wanted help, even inexperienced skydivers who might feel shy around someone of his experience. 10. To me thats kind of like deciding whether a double malfunction at 5000 feet is worse than a double mal at 4000. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  13. Holy crap. The link for " Muslim Rapes in Australia" lead to a pretty freaky site. I am not in the least bit politically correct but that web page was undeniable racist. 14. That is unfortunately all too true. I do however find myself pleasantly surprised when I see or read about the occasional selfless act. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  16. Thats why we have small man syndrome. Compare National Symbols; America-Eagle Britain-Bulldog China-Dragon Canada..........Beaver! A fucking beaver. An amphibious rodent who's only other recognition comes from having it's namesake used as a slang term for the female genitalia! Flags; America-Stars and Stripes Britain-Union Jack (which our original flag was derived from before.....) Mexico-The Eagle holding the snake Canada.......A leaf? A fucking leaf!! Why not a Cannabis bud? They must have been joking when they made that up and are still waiting for us to figure it out. Subsequently Canadians (with the exception of Alberta) tend to get a wee touchy and defensive since we have set ourselves up to not be taken seriously. 19. Too true. Crying wolf always leaves one unable to rally support in the event of a real abuse. A lesson too often forgotten. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  23. So this is just another propaganda scare. I am rather disappointed by the Post. They are normally a little more thorough in their journalism than our other paper, and usually avoid reporting hearsay (usually). That said they are media and need sensational headlines. 24. Cannot agree with you there. In saying that we are no better than Iran for saying Isreal must be destroyed. The leadership in Iran needs to feel isolated from the international community until they recognize the rights of Jews withing Iran (OK I realize that is not likely to happen) and realiize that any attack on Isreal will be met with swift and overwhelming force. The negotiating table must of course be open at all times. 25. ***Quoteyeah, fair enough - but I didn't see anything in the Iranian Presidents letter about wanting to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Or even anything said in a threatening type manner about Israel. Is this Western propaganda to justify the sabre rattling on Iran? Or is there factual documentation of Iran officially making such a statement? *** He did not make the threat in the letter, he made it at an earlier date. In fairness my info is only coming from the newspapers, however while I take anything I read with some degree of skepticism the statement was addressed at the UN, as it was in all world papers not just western papers. With respect to propaganda, of course during times of disagreement we will jump all over an adversaries every word. Thats just the way it is.
