How to make a major life decision in the next 48 hours
Richards replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
Then don't do what you really want to do with your life. Go for what you don't want and won't be happy with because you can get it quicker. If this is some sort of education decision, then the timeline should not play a huge factor. Ask yourself "In 20 years what decision will I be happier having made ?". When I look back on my life I rarely regretted anything I did; My biggest regrets come from the things I didn't do because I felt it would be too hard, take too long, I might not succeed....etc. I think I recall you once saying in another post you really loved school. Not trying to sound like a Polyanna but if this is about an education decision then you should not look at how long the path is but how gratifying the destination will be. Shooting them seems a bit extreme. Nuetering them to prevent procreation sounds a bit more reasonable. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Apparently the rights of poor misunderstood criminals are more important than the rights of victims who made the mistake of being law abiding citizens in the wrong place at the wrong time. We have the exact same problem here in Canada. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Most base jumpers who tresspass are merely being mischevious and would at worst run away if someone confronted them. but....I've already gone and 'bagged' 7 of them based on your comment. Do I have to throw them back? they're kind of fun, swimming around in the bucket posturing and trying to impress the 1 woman base jumper........ Well that wasn't very nice of you now was it? Base jumpers aren't bad.....they're just misunderstood. 7 Hail Mary's for you ( and buy me a case of beer) and I will put in a good word to St. Peter for you (He doesn't take kindly to people who shoot base jumpers).

So if you could overhaul the criminal justice system would making a verbal threat become a capital offence? No. I simply won't cry when someone who does that sort of thing does it to the wrong home-owner and ends up wearing a toe tag. Their crime being.... trespass? Better go start hunting down the guys on the BASE forum. Most base jumpers who tresspass are merely being mischevious and would at worst run away if someone confronted them. When you stand on someones property doing damage and threatenning the person while refusing to leave and stating your intention to come back (presumably to carry out some harmfull action) you move from mere mischeif to thuggery. Thugs who beleive that they have the right to use intimidation/force to take what they want at the expense of others are by no means a species whos demise would be mourned. Agreed. Why? Because if thugs who commit crimes and intimidate people are allowed to live they might just breed and create more criminals. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

If the guy is armed (the perp may have had a gun on him) you could cause him to panic and draw/fire, thus creating a gun fight. Not a good idea to pull the trigger unless it becomes time to drop the guy. So. Do we execute THESE kinda guys for desertion?

Too soft, I say. I say strip of commission, dishonorable and throw some time there too, at a minimum. Agreed. He is betraying the men who depend on his leadership (or in this case lack thereof). It doesn't have to occur right at the funeral for it to be heard. It can be at any number of locations. Do you feel that their actions are appropriate? Anyway the key thing I wanted to know was why it is so critical that these people harrass the families who have nothing to do with the laws? Why not do this on the white house lawn or at a military base? I'm sorry if I appear to be restrictive but the actions of these people are needlessly cruel and are aimed deliberately at people who had no say in the laws and cannot change the laws. Its as though they are saying "we will torment innocent people until the government bends to our political will" . I doubt that a bubble zone around funerals will lead to a slippery slope that will ultimately eliminate the constitution. -
Why. Why is it so critical to be able to harrass the greiving family? They did not start the war and they may not have even wanted the deceased to join the military. Why harrass someone who themselves may have the same views as the protestors and cannot change the law. It seems like torturing someone for the amusement of it. There is absolutely no reason why they cannot be satisfied with holding it 300 yards away so as to allow a greiving widow her last moments with her loved one. -
Again I'm not sure what the right answer to this is, but surely some law that allows a degree of middle ground can be struck. I realize that the intent is to get media coverage but it seems so particularly cruel to taunt a greiving mother/father/wife/child at such a time that decency requires at least a bit of tact on their part. Quoteyour rights extend to the point where they directly interfere with the rights of others. *** But by deliberately targetting the funerals and yelling over bullhorns so the mourners cannot hear the funeral services are they not by that definition interfering with the rights of others.
