  1. Hmm...With the economy expected to take a huge hit and plummet shortly, I doubt many will have the cash to rush to downsize, unless they are going to purchase a canopy worth less than their current one (not likely, but that did happen to me.) Most people won't be able to afford new, shiny stuff, and I'm not sure if the motivation that they won't be able to a few months down the road is enough of an incentive. If they want to downsize, they'll probably do it now, anyways. Agreed. However, do jumpers lose sleep over a new timer buying gear based on ignorance? Yes, that is his/her own fault that they did not research enough, however, there are many dzs out there that will not warn a person that they may be in over their head by downsizing too quickly. But there have been fatalities of others involving powerlines. We've all known since we were little children that powerlines can hurt you. No one believes that having a parachute over your head will make powerlines safe to play with. Also, there have been incidents involving obstacles. I do like Billvon's WL recommendation based on license. That makes sense to me, since certain skills need to be shown before getting a license. Kallend's right in saying that no one has shown the data to support this. Nobody goes to a company suggesting major changes based on, "Well, Bob's seen a lot of problems going on with it...." So, we don't have the data needed to show that this will really have an impact. However, I don't see how a BSR could hurt anything, either (and I know, just because it doesn't hurt doesn't mean it's going to help.) But, I'm pretty sure that most of us have at least one good friend in the sport who wouldn't have been bed-ridden, disabled, on crutches, etc if this BSR would've existed. 2. I don't really care if someone calls themself a skydiver after 1 tandem, much like I don't care if someone calls themself a rock star after playing at someone's birthday party in their backyard. As long as their not trying to be an "expert" go ahead and call yourself whatever you want (except for a cop, because that's illegal ) I don't really have a definition of a "skydiver." I didn't feel like one 'til after Quincy. I don't feel like much of one now, since I discovered that there are other things to do on nice weekends. But, others should feel free to label themselves however they want to. It doesn't really affect me. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  3. cool! Okay...that's it!!! I HAVE to meet her now!!! She sounds WAY too cool! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  4. Thanks for the tips, guys! Okay, not sure if anyone can help, but here's somewhat of how it's going to look. I know that some sort of bs needs to go in there to further elaborate upon the "accomplishments." But, any kind of feedback right now would be great! Thanks! 5. You should make that statement past tense. I no longer have them. They have shrank considerably. At least I have proof that I once had a nice set.... There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  6. Haha! That's actually half of the reason I stuck with ballet for so long....was just to get good enough to dance en pointe. The last year or so of dancing was WORK...it was no longer fun. So, I finally got good enough, bought myself some toe shoes, and I used them for maybe 6 months before I quit. Same here! I was just a tall, lanky girl with strong feet! I moved about very awkward-like. Thanks, Michele.
  7. You were just trying to figure out the best way to balance that bottle on my ass! (Oh...and it will no longer be able to hold one ) What are you doing online anyways? Shouldn't you be crawling back by now? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  8. I just want to wear the cool toe shoes again! That's my goal (it'll never happen...well, I could wear my old ones now, but I might break a toe.) I was going to include that in my list of things it wasn't....being horny and stuck in a car for 40 mins would not make me happy...that's how I know it wasn't that. 9. I need your help again! Are there any resume experts out there? Could I send you a resume to critique??? Please???? I'll buy you a good beer for your help! Or, if anyone knows a good template for computer geeks to follow, that'd be great, too. Even better, anyone know of a decent company around Chicago hiring computer geeks? 10. I'm not sure if many people remember my wonderful Dancing Queen poll about which dance class I should take, but I just thought I'd fill everyone in on the results! I did not listen to the majority of you this time. I took the class which tied for sixth place: ballet!!!! My main influence for this decision was mi padre and MrHixxx talking about the ballerina butt I want to own! The last time I stepped in front of a ballet bar, my strong toes could carry my much lighter (but still just as tall) body wherever I wanted to go. Tonight, I realized I'm no longer 14. I jump out of airplanes for goodness sakes, so why did I, wearing the traditional ballet gear, get so scared stepping into a large room with other ballerina wannabes? The teacher eased my worries rather quickly, and hearing that no one else had done ballet for years made me less nervous. She had us do some simple moves, but focusing so much on my turnout, my arms, my plie, etc really worked muscles I haven't felt in years. I had so much fun tonight! I couldn't twirl around like I used to (I would probably break my neck if I tried those moves again) but I wasn't getting screamed at by some scary woman constantly. It's also a really incredible feeling to focus intently on how my body moves. Feeling my toes push into the ground while stretching my arm to the side feels really cool

Woo hoo!!! Congratulations! Too bad I missed out on your pieing See you this weekend! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  12. I was just going to recommend that one myself! I have that book somewhere....it's in a box (I haven't completely unpacked from last August.) That book taught me a thing or two about myself. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  13. BUMP! Okay, even more new people FREAKING me out! So, I made several jumps with this really really awesome girl named Samantha at the Convention. She was sweet, fun, hot, and really nice. I wanted to party with her and cause SOOOO much trouble, but she was not as single as I was. Anyways, I sign on to dz.com this morning, and I have a pm from her! Samanthashows! I had no clue she was on here, and she's only made a few posts. She rocks, though!!!! Haha! I didn't notice that! That's funny! But, she is most definitely a woman! That finding out part is what scares me most Try harder! Be more creative with your persuasion! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  14. Phreezone snuck me in! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  15. I don't know....I'll have to go back and watch the pieing video to see how mean and cruel you were before I decide who does the initiating! And FallingAngel, too! Tomas...what'd you do to get her posting???? I think someone needs to get Drew on here! He has many stories to share with this community! I swear...you turn your back for one second, and all these people sign up on dz.com! It's really cool! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  16. Christina started resembling Cruella De Vil too much. If she wasn't 5 feet tall and 80 pounds, she would've scared me! Brittany should never ever speak. She has to be the least intelligent celebrity out there. I like Shakira, though. It is sad how she had to "dumb down" her music, because she knew that her thoughtful lyrics that she writes in her own language would never sell here. I like her, even though she had to sell out. I would kill to be able to dance like her! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  17. First of all, no I didn't go. I really wish I could have gone, but people (well, I guess I'm included in that group) on getting tickets. I will drown my sorrows at the Taste by watching Guster and Wallflowers! Secondly, What a great sig line!!!! I love it!!!! See, that's all I'm looking for! (Did you see my "I want an asshole" thread?) There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  18. I think you were getting your camera helmet ready for the no t-shirt contest. Don't worry, though. There's video of her jump! Damn good video, too! It's the best video you have EVER seen! She's doing the jump again this year, but she's extending the number of people on the jump with her. This jump is the one thing that's drawing me to the Convention! I am famous! I swear! Yes, EricaH is most definitely hot and fun! And I have the honor to get to be her Rodriguez parent.
  19. I said you'd have to ask HER!!! Also, Paula did the HOTTEST skydive at the Convention! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  20. Okay, so I don't notice every new poster on here, and I imagine that people I've met along the way sign up and join the little community inside the community on a weekly basis. First, EricaH tells me that she's an active lurker. Holy hell! I don't feel like such a dork for posting here, because she's hot and fun and she reads this stuff! Then, manifest queen Eiley pokes her head in, and she gives a big hello from Australia to her Hinckley friends. Then, out of no where, skydive.com girl hmatousek signs right on up and joins in for the post-whoring! The biggest surprise of all, however, was seeing that one of my oldest (not old in age...old in friendship) friends in skydiving signs on up. Paulagc!!! She is such an incredible woman, and man, I'm always laughing my ass off when I hang out with her, Bo and Ward!!! They were all with me for my Falcon Award nearly three years ago. They were all with me for my reserve ride. They gave me food and beers at the Convention the past two years. I was there the opening day for the dz! Paula has given me some great advice over the past few years, and I'm glad she's sharing her knowledge here on the forums. Just don't ask her what ffp means! 21. I think that we all need the same basic things, and it really only varies by gender, height, weight and age. For example, women should get more calcium than men. My bone density/strength won't make me crave milk any more or less, though. Yes, and that's due to scientific studies on food and its long-term effects becoming more accurate. Diet fads change all the time, but no one should ever follow those. I think following reliable sources (FDA and whatnot) is better than following what my body says. A smoker's body will tell it that it needs nicotine. A coffee drinker's body will tell it that it need caffeine. My body tells me that I need sugar and chocolate. I ignore it the best that I can. 22. Oh no! You should've seen the burger I ate about 4 yrs ago! It was the first burger I had in 5 months or so, and I vomitted everywhere! I would chalk it up to food poisoning, except nobody else got sick, and I don't think I'm special! Anything that makes me ill is evil! Certain forms of alcohol are evil, too (The Captain comes to mind....) A few of them are wonderful. Amy got me in on Kashi bars and shakes! They fill me up, and they give me energy! They're also loaded with protein and fiber! Don't be dissing my bars... Hmm...I'm still not sold on that one. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  23. Probably something like....3 days. I don't know...never really paid attention to the time in between...but I'm fairly certain it's less than a week. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  24. If you are going by calorie-wise, fish would work just fine. You will get your recommended protein and iron in, plus you can get all sorts of other nutrients like iodine. Soy also has tons of protein. I know people are on this high-protein craze, but you can get your needed amount just fine without red meat. I don't think not eating red meat is traumatic; I doubt anybody's body would flip out by not having red meat in them. I think there are a few other areas which people should also cut back on which would have similar effects. I don't think red meat is any less important than other means of healthy living (ie not drinking, not smoking, not eating foods high in fat, exercising and drinking plenty of water.) Together, yes, they will all have a profound effect. Doing only one thing to improve your health may not do much, though. Someone who drinks and smokes all the time probably won't live a long life just because they don't eat red meat. Also, how many billions and billions has McDonald's served by now? Most do not eat red meat "in moderation," and most do not realize just how bad it is for you. I agree. If you live a healthy life, having a burger once every other month won't really do anything to you (although, it would probably make you feel sick.) Maybe. Also it hurts the planet to raise cows as food. It hurts the planet with other animals as well, but more so with cows. Sigh (this isn't directed at you, Zenister)....people do try to ignore the evil things that red meat can do by pointing out the few good things it may do. I wish people would read something on here and learn from it....it might not be the normal thing to do...change isn't easy....instead of people considering something that might be better for them, they have the attitude that they don't care, they're doing just fine, etc etc etc. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  25. Nobody can tell how long it's going to take their bodies to process the saturated fats from that Twinkie before it's okay to have those French fries. And, even in moderation, it still affects your body fat percentage and your cholesterol level. People's lungs around here can't process the pollution in the air as it is, so yes, even one cigarette is harmfull. Yes, that I know. However, most people don't have to worry about drinking too much water. Most people don't have to think about cutting back on water. I completely understand moderation. I sometimes break down (okay, a few times this week, but it generally is a rare instance) and buy a cookie. I am fully aware that this cookie does nothing for me. I understand that anything I'm getting from this cookie that may be good (sometimes, it's an oatmeal cookie) I can get from somewhere else. People should view red meat the same way.
