Well in the circles I travel I know a LOT of people who work with Unix, and use Mac OS X at home. I use Solaris/SPARC on my job and use Mac OS X in the evenings for casual web-browsing because it is easier to find multimedia apps for the Mac. I also run Linux/{Free,Net,Open}BSD for research/hobby purposes. When traveling, I carry a Mac iBook. If you have used Mac OS X, you realize you don't need to know anything about Unix to use it. It *IS* Unix for the masses. Ryoder.. ok.. I love what your saying, really I do. The OSes and the things they can do and save people are awesome. But, lemme use an anology: You are the minority, you are like a black man in the south in the middle 40's. You are not mainstream nor do you get support from "The Man" Not until the mainstream user get's education to the computer and figure out they don't "need" that widget program that runs in the background, they never knew about.. That does that memory hogging port opening application, just incase I decided to sort my sock drawer. Give me a fucking break ryoder.. Apple is about as popular in the real world as *nix. We are talking "Walmart PCs" not gamers or programers. Granted Apple has made HUGE new customers with it's iPod. It's a very very slick marketing campaigne by Jobs himself. Introducce the public to our awesome mp3 player. They'll love it.. Look into other things Apple makes. Discover the cheap $499 MiniMac etc.. etc.. etc.. The average user is not a *nix user and until *nix gets mainstream support and business software it will always be a server, dbase and webhost software. It will never be the prefered OS for home use and business use. Agrue all you like, you know I'm right and I'm not even a m$ supporter, I just have to use it because I like to pay bills and I'm lazy. Plus I love to game, most mainstream games don't port to *nix because of it's fringe use as a OS on game systems. No market, no support.. would cost game companies more money to try and port/support a client for the games then it cost them to develope them. I'm a *nix user but I also use Winblows. *nix is not the answer for the general user. Until Redhat and the other linux companies can make a more user friendly UI then it's going to be windows for the "Walmart PC" Yes Xwindows is awesome IF you have some knowledge of the nix system. This is the caveat of the PC world. Virus writers like to attack the establishment. Use something other then that, you're normally safe... Most of the "virii" that are have had a major impact on the net in the past 2 years have come from east asian countries. Namely; China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Korea. Not bashing these countries or their cultures. Just a simple fact. To combat virii, adware, malware and the like.. Educate youself in the ways of the internet. Scan ALL files even if you know who you got it from. Do not trust anyone. It is the wild west and you are unarmed. Instead of guns and ammo this new frontier uses knowledge and 0's 1's. Its true the pressure doesnt change as quickly, but for me for some reason it really hurts to come down in the plane, but i feel nothing during skydives. I figured it would be just the opposite. Not sure why that happens I've never felt ear pain like riding the Super Otter down. Must have been the radical dives the pilot was doing. Sure have and some were even put up with a map pack on Fileplanet. This was for Doom2 and UT. Nothing in the past 5 years. Like you I got into trying to make maps for CS and some other games. Became mind boggling work. I decided then I just have alot more fun playing them then trying to make them. Now I have to jump to another game Roller Coaster Tycoon. I love making coasters and theme parks. I also enjoyed making maps for Starcraft: Broodwar. Speaking of SC:B I wonder why Blizzard went with the Warcraft series and never made an SC2 or SC3. Instead opting to go with that very weak FPS version of SC. There is a group out there who is trying to make a complete conversion of WC3 into a SC conversion. They're having a time with Blizzard because Blizzard is trying to hold them back from hacking the WC3 code. Calling it proprietary information. I mean Bliz had a point. But these guys (an gals) aren't trying to make money. They like me just wanted to see Blizzard extend Starcraft. I still load SC: B up sometimes and go battle it out on Bnet. Even after 7 years it's one of my favorite RTS games. I've migrated from the BF1942 and installed the Desert Combat mod. The design team that did the DC mod have been working on BF2. DiCE bought them because their Desert Combat mod was a huge success. Kinda like the HL: CS mod scenerio. Make and awesome mod, everyone plays it. You make lots of money when the game company buys the rights to your code.
