These religion threads are exactly like the political threads. The same teams of certain posters trying to convert the other team of certain posters. No wonder our parents taught us to never discuss religion or politics in public.

I have jumped off a lot of very high stuff like Angel Falls and Brento. I hate looking over the edge before leaping. Once off the object it's all fun and games. Weird. When I walk out on the Perrine bridge without a rig on, I hate it. Walking under the big green monster in NorCal and looking down through the grates, ugh. I spent 31 years on the FD and most of it on a 100' ladder truck. I could climb to the top, while it was swaying no problem. When I ride the glass elevator at the Bonaventure hotel, I get nervous. I was just in NYC and went to the top of the Empire State Building. It took some time to calm down and get used to being up there. I looked up at the tower and got vertigo and had to sit down for a minute. Hanging out front float at 13,000 has no effect at all on me. Strange stuff

As long as we keep taxing the holey living hell out of corporations that stay here in the U.S., the trend will continue. It's not worth it to hang around. What?

I flew back from Nationals one year with an Airspeed member. I couldn't believe how many adoring fans mobbed him at the airport when we landed.

The $2 would be to sponsor the representatives to the World Meets in all disciplines. I'm not advocating nor discouraging it. I just think it would be far more effective idea than "hoping" for corporate sponsorship. Thus, no demo team needed. Most skydivers that belong to USPA couldn't tell you what the World Meet is, what events are competed in and who represents us at them and how often. IMHO

Would there be outrage at adding $2 per membership for a team fund? That would give the team $160,000+ each meet. We wouldn't have to try to get sponsors by doing demos, and we could make a cool video to present to the corporate sponsors.

Way back before computers and DZ.com I had a great friend. Jean Guy was a Canadian jumper from Calgary. He was the nicest person in the world. He hung out in Eloy for the winters and packed, shot video and did some woodworking for me when I built the Bent Prop. The only problem Jean Guy had was, he just wouldn't listen. His canopy skills were horrific, but he thought he knew better. We all begged him to slow down. Myself, Dan BC, Mike McGowan, Bryan Burke, everyone. On Ron Green's ash dive he nearly took out some jumpers on final. He got "Burked" to the student area. The regulars then started calling the student peas the Jean Guy landing area. Jean Guy assured me he was slowing down. Then one year at Lost Prairie I watched him almost kill himself on a 270. I was so pissed at him. I told him he was going to kill himself or someone else. I didn't want to jump with him and put myself at risk. He was really upset with me, and the other jumpers from his DZ that stated the same things. He was so damned stubborn and wanted to be like the cool kids. Well now that student landing area at Eloy is called the "Jean Guy Memorial landing area" by the oldtimers. Jean Guy hooked himself into the ground at a boogie and died in the helicopter on the way to the hospital. That was September of 2000. I miss him. He was a lot of fun to be around.
