  1. Drop zone owners make a lot of decisions on a lot of different topics every single day. I have read all of the comments on your blog. Most of the readers have called and e-mailed the DZ and city council and mayor and are boycotting the DZ and crying out for a lawsuit. I have to wonder, if the DZ goes under, due to a lack of customers over this, how many fellow civilians and military veterans that skydive, fly or pack there for a living will be out of work? Also in this day and age, gaining and keeping access to municipal airports across America is a growing difficulty. Having a DZ close over a firestorm like this has turned into would be a sad turn of events. DZ's allow you to jump there with knowledge of your disablity. Betty and many other DZO's could have told you that having Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome would preclude you from jumping under the "are you in good health to skydive" section that most all DZ's have on their waiver. Every DZO in the world could have every right in their power to not let you buy a jump ticket, but they don't stop you and allow you to participate. I understand your position, I understand the Qatar general's position and I understand Betty's position. Sometimes the "cooler heads need to prevail" solution is really the best course of action. I would hope you would post a statement on your blog and call off the protesters for a while, meet with Betty and smooth things out in person, and think about what it is we gain as being a part of the skydiving community. Thank you for your service to the nation
  2. Other veterans are speaking about it here... http://www.shadowspear.com/vb/threads/eddie-bryant-adventures-of-a-broken-soldier.17699/

  4. I can't imagine the firestorm of phone calls and e-mails Lake Wales is enduring over this. I read all of the comments under his blog. People are now calling and e-mailing the mayor and council. There are a few skydivers piling on too in the comments section. A PR nightmare
  5. It will be interesting to see what governments do with bitcoin in the near future. Drug dealers and other criminals use bitcoins. And what about taxing bitcoin transactions, international money laundering, transfers, etc? I'm reading about it being accepted by more business entities each day. Maybe it will be the currency of the world. Who knows...
  6. Noth'n like swooping Doc's slot Tall Ass! Strong work my friend
  7. We had an AAD "save" at my DZ in February. The jumper was knocked unconscious on a tracking dive. A full face helmet probably saved her life on the landing into a chain link fence. Just my 2 cents worth. Carry on...
  8. We had a packed house of world class freeflyers in freezing cold December. A lot of jumpers like our DZ because of the rocketship to 13K, less canopies in the air, $20 jump weekends and a defined pattern for canopies and fun, skilled LO's. The really cool kids still pull off "blind mans" and some pretty nice swoops doing 90's. I'm an old guy on a 120, does that count?
  9. Welcome to the Burgh Iginla! Lets go PENS!
  10. Rob Laidlaw was sued and lost to Gerry Dyk, his team mate. IIRC
  11. Is your new DZ going to be in Alaska? Lease a 182 already jump modified.
  12. Ten years ago this week, hence the timing. And don't expect Hannity to host it.
  13. Heck, You should see how the US treats a Canadian with a drug arrest 30+ years ago. Apparently we think that person is a menace to society, forever.
  14. We now host USPA B license jumpers and their foreign equivalent. We pick up jumpers from San Diego Airport or Orange County. We have a hotel a few blocks from the DZ that provides a clean room and breakfast for $50 night. We have a nice beach and harbor a mile from the DZ. Sorry, no gear store, yet. Come out West and hit four great DZ's within about 120 miles of each other!
  15. People are treated like criminals at the checkpoints. CBP officers could give a shit if you miss a flight. For some of them it's a power trip, others do a good job. Fly into Miami, Houston or Dallas and try to clear customs. it's a pain in the ass. There is a murderer from Texas named Ricky Grimm on the loose. Not me, he's 6'3", 250 lbs. I'm 5'10". 190 lbs. They have his photo. The first couple of times I was detained for an hour upon entering the US from Belize. OK, no problem, I'll fill out your forms for future entry and it shouldn't be a problem. Nope, almost missed a connecting flight the next time. I explained to them I had filled out the forms and I'm not their guy. They acted like I was a criminal and were rude to my family. After some letter writing, now they just match my photo to his and I make it through. It only took five years. And TSA is an entire other story...
  16. What on earth this press release had to do with airports or their food service baffles me. Thanks for the pleasant response. Sadly, that's pretty much the same hostile attitude we encounter at US Customs on far too many occasions. John What you are saying is something like this: I'm not visiting London because the cab drivers are scam artists. Like it's cab drivers that will keep me from going to London" I think not. Custom official typically ask for papers. What is it you don't like about someone asking you for your passport? And when American's come back into the US do you think we get any separate treatment that is better? As we get the same treatment. And the treatment is pretty much the same no matter what country you visit. Now if you simply find it offensive that someone needs ask you to look at your papers, then you probably shouldn't travel to any country. Like I already said on here I've had machine guns put in my face at borders. Now if you can't stand the heat. Stay home. And if you can tolerate the inconvenience of going through customs you might find some things a country has to offer. Once you're at the South Rim, you'll be forgetting anything that happened at the airport, believe me. Reading comprehension is not your strong suit. But try and comprehend these stats. http://www.ustravel.org/marketing/national-travel-and-tourism-week/talking-points-and-facts Tourism is a life blood of our economy. As more and more foreign travelers get treated poorly after waiting in very long lines, that income will begin to dwindle. And before you insult someone you never met, maybe get to know them. John has his own private aircraft that he could take to a fancy FBO, he lives in a pretty nice place with great views and he's been to lots of nations that have guys with machine guns at their borders and airports.
  17. We have a free fly LO every day. We host free fly skills camps every so often. We only charge $20 per day per participant for the coach and we provide a video slot free of charge. We also have a 90 degree only rule under canopy. Some of the best freeflyers in the world jump with us most weekends. Come visit
  18. If you didn't attend the Cabo boogie, you really missed out on a great time. Vern McGarry did an outstanding job of picking up where I left off. He did a tremendous job, ran a fun, safe boogie with very few hiccups, and announced another boogie in Cabo next March 2nd, 2014. Great job Vern, thank you. I had a blast!
  19. Jump #100, DC-3, I took Tom Falzone's slot on Airmoves and did a 36 point 4-way with Dan BC, Troy Widgery and James Layne. Richard Stuart shot the video. Well, I just picked up grips as they turned and burned around me What a memory. James would have been 42 yesterday
  20. One of the best things that came out of the WHA was the arrival of European players in North America. Sorry Don Cherry
