Example, as long as Obama is an "African American" running for prez, instead of just an American, things won't change until the media puts away the stereotypes and labels. TV just won't let us all be human beings.

No one has gotten their fat ass off of the couch and away from watching American Idol to shoot the worst President in history, so what makes you think some nut job will get out of his double wide to shoot at the next Prez??? Black, Woman or OLD???? No one can afford the gas to drive to an event they would be at...

You need to fly on down to Angel Falls and make some leaps...

The King Air was Perris Valley's. Jim Wallace was Swayze's stunt double for jumping. Patrick showed up at the DZ one day and the word spread like wildfire, pre cell phone days! There is an old Parachutist article about the jump sequence filming. I'll try to dig it out of the box in my garage. I think Jeff Jones and some other Perris regulars were in it. One of the movie's producers used to jump with us. He broke a finger really badly on an exit and stopped jumping after that. Business at the DZ's worldwide went through the roof. A lot of wannabes wanted to just put on a rig and jump. Some AFF jumpers thought they were going to get 5 minute freefalls over Lake Powell!! It was pretty comical at the school for a while! Skydiving has been waiting a long time for another "I gotta jump, that's too cool" movie. It's weird how Terminal Velocity, Dropzone, Cutaway (bad script, cool skydive scenes) youtube, etc have done nothing like Point Break did for skydive students. I'm too young to know the effect the "Gypsy Moths" had on jumping. Nick DG will have to fill us in on that!

Tell your instructors that your family comes first. If they aren't cool with that tell them to piss off and find another DZ. They're on your dime (pound) and you make the time, when you have time. Maybe take a family vacation down to Empuriabrava and go through your training there while the wife and kids play in the pool. Everyone wins, you , the family and your training. Skydive instructors come and go. The family is always is there for you. I hope you enjoy a long and safe skydive career.

The Bible took about 1500 years to assemble. Genesis was written about 9BC. Only three children of the Devil??? Besides Hitler, what about... Jeffrey Dahmer Adolf Eichmann John Wayne Gacy Attila the Hun Idi Amin Dada Pol Pot Vlad Tepes Ivan the Terrible Josef Stalin Slobodan Milosevic Paul Bernardo & Karla Homolka Richard Ramirez the list goes on for ages...

The Bible was written over 1500 years. Does anyone in today's times get to add a chapter? Maybe Jerry Falwell. Ernest Angeley. The Dali Lama. Rev. Wright. The Pope. The Book of Mormon was written on golden tablets by God himself and handed to Joseph Smith in an apple orchard. What about Islam? God, nor Buddha, nor the boogie man sent Hitler. But lucky for us he finally got sent to see his good pal the Devil.

I ought to buy a brewery! (Many firsts)
grimmie replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Lang Brewery, it has a runway and a NOTAM for jumping! -
We save money on alti's and dytters at Perris. When you finally see the ground, just PULL!

Skydivers jump with fanny packs and other containers holding flags and banners. If you jump facing into the relative wind the object is pressed to your body. Facing away from the wind your body shields it. Sideways exit would whip you around a bit. Any Boy Scout could tie the sack to themselves so it stayed put during exit and freefall.

Jo, It is finally time to hire a PI. Call some Hollywood producers with your story. I'm sure someone will hire a gumshoe to find the facts. You have pleaded here for help. Many here have helped you as much as possible. There are many old timers that lurk here but don't post. They would jump in if there was info on prison jump training or thought they could put Duane in a parachute harness. I don't doubt your stories. I saw you on TV a while back and you were very articulate. Use that to your advantage and hire a professional detective. I would imagine some retired PD or Government agent types would want to delve into all of your info. Get Hollywood to pay, they are in to "Reality" shows now big time. If you are serious I will put you in touch with some reputable (yes there are a couple!) TV people. Posting on here in capital letters and underlines about the Bay of Pigs, MLK and hijackings is getting you nowhere. You can PM me.

Gone But Not Forgotten! PV22 April 22, 1992

I still see their smiling faces, It seems like just yesterday... And Tom Slocum passed last year on the same date. -
Our sport has a wealth of knowledge not being utilized. We have jump pilots out there, current and retired, that have a tremendous amount of experience. We have DZO's that have operated aircraft successfully for many years. If you want to tow a banner, land on floats, etc. there is specialized training available. My original post was to make people here think about ways to train our jump pilots in a common manner. Maybe a large DZ (with access to a 182 and up) should start a training center. Gather some of the most experienced jump pilots, and new pilots that have just started flying jumpers, and come up with a sylabus. Flying jumpers is way more than not crashing, as we all know. I have recently been with new pilots that couldn't even use a GPS to get us out over the DZ. A helmet, AAD and 2 new canopies aren't doing us any good if we stall on jump run, crash on take off etc. IMHO we neglect training the most important person on the jump, the pilot. Now on to the good. There are some amazingly talented jump pilots out there. Many have flown you and I on formation loads, daily jumps and demos. They are spread all across the world. My original point is, it's time to put our thick headed skydiver brains to work and come up with some ideas to make it safer for all of us, including the first time jumpers with no clue how it all works. Blue Skies!

If you fly 182's, do that course. If you move up to a Caravan, do that course.
-
If you are jumping at a DZ that has some hills around it, check out of the window once in a while. Nothing like bailing out over a 2,000ft hill with the alti reading 3,000!

It's time to establish a national jump pilot training course. I am never for more FAA involvement in our sport, but enough is enough. There needs to be an add on rating for fixed wing pilots to fly jumpers. The course should be intense, cover everything from 182's to Otters and every plane in between. There is a history to jumpship crashes that is unfortunately being repeated at a very high expense in lives. It might not prevent further crashes, but it will prevent many I am sure. This had been discussed before, I think it's time. Diverdriver, Zing, where do we start? Just my 2 cents worth after the Perris crash 16 years ago tomorrow, and all of the incidents since.
