My first jump and might rain
grimmie replied to calicoolguy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Call Elsinore in the AM and ask if they are jumping. You are probably driving a long way, so save the gas $$. Or just go out and if it rains go over the hill to Perris and fly in the tunnel. Or go to the Lake Elsinore Casino and make big bucks playing poker! Have Fun! -
Old jumpers who went to the Big House

A better thread may have been titled..."Old jumpers that SHOULD have gone to the big house"! -
Is there a complete/current list of boogies?
grimmie replied to ChickenSandwich's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Lost Prairie is not a boogie, it's a family reunion...dysfunctional of course! -
So today I opened my local fishwrap here in Ontario, CA and about fell over! There was an API article on page 3 begging the public for help in solving the DB Cooper case. My question to you Ckret is, beside Jo Weber's accounts, and somewhat "evidence", are there any other people in the world that think their friend or loved one was DB? And please keep us posted if the FBI receives any tips from the newspaper article. It seems to me a meeting with Jo and her evidence, the flight crew and a few experienced 60's/70's jumpers might shed some new light on things. What would it hurt?

The Real Wedding Crashers Simply Hilarious
grimmie replied to skinnersone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That was at least 10 years ago. All three are good jumpers that made a bad decision so the wedding could go on. The ironic thing is that the car that lost a window wasn't covered by the CSPA third party insurance because she was a CSPA member. That clip and the wedding video made it on all of the US morning shows. And yes, it's a good thing they all didn't get seriously wrecked! -
The Belize Air Wing flies a "Defender" model. We did a formation load from 10,000ft with it and the Perris otter at this year's boogie. It is their only flying aircraft at the moment, logging lots of hours patrolling and search and rescue missions. We are going to donate a few rounds to launch cargo with in February. I'll post a few pics.

Measuring brainactivity on skydivers

I seem to be brain dead on most Lost Prairie mornings... -
Post the 1st Page of your Logbook . . .
grimmie replied to NickDG's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
David, I wish my first real log book wasn't stolen 14 years ago along with my rig. I recovered the rig at a swap meet, but never found my log. My 100th jump was a 4 way with Airmoves, Dan, Troy and James. I took Tom's slot. It was out of "Our Douglass". At least I have video. James signed it and wrote some funny stuff in it over the following year. I made about 300+ jumps with him that he signed off. I think of him on every jump, we had a blast in those days! I'm looking through my old shoe boxes for my first log book. It was from 1980 at Cleveland Sport Parachute Club. On the back it said..."After 500 jumps, you too can fly the Paracommander, the Ferrarri of all canopies!" Excellent memories guys! Thanks! -
Nick, dude, you were eating WAY too many donuts during EMT school and got yourself all sugared up!!!! Just my views on your views... 1.USPA BOD should be made up of skydivers that aren't DZO's. I think a lot of self serving goes on. I don't want to pay for DZ unjust legal troubles. 2.If the FAA took over they wouldn't hire the Bill Von's or Chris Schindlers, they would hire some 100 jump wonders for the job. 3.Why do AFF/Tandem/Pro,etc jumpers have to pay MORE for a yearly membership. They should pay less! They advertise and encourage the future! 4.If jumpmasters have to pay more for a USPA membership, they should have an insurance policy in case of injury. A skydiver "workman's comp" sort of plan. Get wrecked landing a tandem on a no wind day and no work for 4 or 5 months, they should get a cash payout to get them through. 5.Our sport is ruining itself. We can't keep killing jumpers in sensless ways like canopy collisions and hook turns. And every time a jump ship goes down we loose more credibility. 6.Economics govern our participation. Jumping is more global now than it ever has. Soon you will see many more jumpers arriving here in the states from thriving economies like China. The UK is doing well and it seems there are always a group of Brits at the DZ's I frequent. 7. Maybe we need to produce "Point Break II"! 8. Wind Tunnels may create more jumpers. 9. What happened to all involved in the James Martin incident was a travesty, IMHO. 10. USPA does a horrible job at promoting skydiving. The ESPN live from Montana two summers ago was a PR disaster. 11. Something needs to be done about "demos gone bad". I think that everyone with a PRO card should have to attend a yearly proficiency/refresher course. 12. Did we really need our own skydive museum? Couldn't we have put it in an existing aviation museum. Along with our HQ? 13. Would the FAA really slow down the DZ "old boys(and girls)" network? 14. Instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater, maybe we should see what direction Ed Scott is going to take USPA in the future. I have spoken with him a few times and he seems to be much more knowledgable and helpful than...oh, never mind... 15. There should be a standard jump pilot training course and strict minimums for pilots. I would pay more for a full time career jump pilot. Let Zing and diverdriver put it together and teach it. 16. Nick, maybe you should start a coup. many DZ.commers and old timers might vote for you! All in favor of NickDG Friday for Left Coast Regional Director say AYE!

Special or Exotic Boogies around the world
grimmie replied to goobersnuftda's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Come to Belize and skydive into and then SCUBA dive the Blue Hole to 140ft. -
If you really want to know the headaches of operating in a foreign land pm me.

Stashing the money for later pick up makes good sense. Just like stashing your base gear after a night jump. You walk out of the woods and if someone sees you and stops you, no evidence. You then come back and retrieve it. We lost a base rig once...looked for it a LONG time in the woods. Just a theory for our non jumping friends to ponder.

Hell yeah it's been done! Round 4 at last years nationals...4 way!

you know your a canadian skydiver when....
grimmie replied to FlyingRedneck's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
...an Amerikan swoops your girlfriend at Lost Prairie. ...a 6 way is a formation load. ...a 182 flies your Nationals. ...you have maple leafs all over your gear bag so you don't get confused with an Amerikin. ...an Amerikan jumper organized your Canuckian 10 man jump. ...you think an Oilers-Flames game is a good first date but can only afford a Red Deer Rebels ticket. ...you go to Eloy for a holiday and turn down a member of Airspeed to jump with you.(true story) ...you bungee jump at the West Ed Mall to get a few seconds of freefall in January. ...you have to decide between jumping or moose hunting this weeekend. ...a stoopid Amerikan takes out your National Maple Leaf during your Nationals. -
I wonder just how many of the moms will take Jr. to the DZ when they turn 18 to actually jump out at 13,000. My ankle biters and mrs. grimmie have loved flying in the tunnel, however making a leap is another step altogether! At least the kids(and parents) are being exposed to it...

C'mon Ckret, In the city I work in the cavalier crooks that do random, unplanned crimes like convenience store stick ups and bank heists always get caught. They usually bumble so bad us stoopid firemen could catch them! I think the FBI should put up a nice size reward for the real DB to come forward. it will be the only way this ever gets solved!

It's interesting to think no one would ever miss even the most recluse of people. The Unabomber even had friends in Lincoln, MT and his brother ratted him out when the manifesto he had published looked eerily like Ted's writing. I think whoever DB was he... had a working knowledge of the aircraft. had made a jump before the skyjack. thought it out carefully. A guy just doesn't attempt to pull off a haphazard crime like that without leaving a ton of clues that point to him. JMHO
