Poll: What Reserve Handle: Ring / Soft /Other
dragon2 replied to fcajump's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well during World Team '04, the German teamcaptain got his reserve pulled on exit from the Herc. He got hurt in so far that he had a few broken or bruised ribs and had trouble breathing and couldn't walk after he had landed his reserve. Having your reserve handle snagged by another jumper (??? What's that in my hand???) at that height and with that speed = not fun and could have been much worse. ciel bleu, Saskia -

In the market for a new HD video camera
dragon2 replied to DownplaneDave's topic in Photography and Video
I can, but I always leave the screen open when there's no memory card in there (as a hint to myself) and with the screen open the camera hangs awkwardly in the box. Setting it down next to the helmet is more secure. ciel bleu, Saskia -

CRW jumpers also have a variety of big/easy toggles. ciel bleu, Saskia -
In the market for a new HD video camera

Nope. I just lift out the camera, put it on a box next to the helmet that's the right height and leave it on there to charge if it needs to. It stays connected to the helmet. Unless I have to debrief using a TV and even then I tend to steer the debriefing parties to a laptop ciel bleu, Saskia -

The flatlock is quite big though? Can you comfortable mount 2 next to each other on a normal-plate FTP? ciel bleu, Saskia -

I have my CX105 in a tonfly box, with some foam in it. No shake. Room for extended battery (the 70 one, not the 100). I do have to USE an extended battery, otherwise I'd have to fill-up the space and might get shake. I also use a big lens (raynox 3032 or opteka .3), not sure if this would work with a small/low profile lens. I'm sure there are just as good-fitting boxes for a CX150, CX115 etc, and otherwise you can MAKE it fit snugly I use a hype-eye to turn on/off my camera. What room do you need? I put the hype-eye button on my helmet, filed out a little slot to route the cable next to my lens, route the cable plus plug inside. With this setup it doesn't matter where the cardslot is located as you remove/lift-up the camera anyway. Only downside to this kind of setup is you cannot use the screen when you film (tandems), but I'm used to that. ciel bleu, Saskia -

I have a FTP too, but I just drop my CX105 in its box, close box, jump, repeat. ciel bleu, Saskia -
There's plenty of threads about cutaway ratios, but it seems on average there is a cutaway every 700-800 (sport)jumps or so. ciel bleu, Saskia

The fusion wouldn't be my choice for a student canopy, for exactly that reason: it's a (way) more high performance canopy than a pilot for example, and hence much less forgiving of body position on opening, it's also more responsive in flight, turns faster, dives longer. Over here, you need at least 100 jumps to fly one, for that reason. ciel bleu, Saskia

Looks ok except for the processor: I'd forgo AMD altogether and get a Intel Core i7 (any model) preferably, or if money is an issue a Core i5-750 (not another i5 model number, you want the quadcore). You prolly don't need a soundcard as sound should be integrated in the motherboard (which you don't list). Videocard is fairly unimportant when editing. You could shave off a couple 10s of bucks there if you need it for the CPU. ciel bleu, Saskia

Canopy Downsizing Chart by Brian Germain
dragon2 replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
No, it's much safer to NOT JUMP in high winds. Small and unexperienced girls on small canopies are frankly dangerous. I've seen a few who never really learned to land as they started out at 120 or 135 sqft for their first canopy, with wingloadings of .9. TOO SMALL. Some got scared/nervous of landing their canopies (jumping was supposed to be FUN?), some started to bellyfly with lots of lead leading to an even zippier canopy, I don't think any had consistent pretty landings. And most of them had a jumping boyfriend advising that small canopy... I also know a few girls with exit weights of 150 lbs or less who stuck to 190/170 canopies for hundreds of jumps. And still jumped loads, did competitions on windy islands, etc etc. A light/featherweight jumper? This is a sensible progression: jump a 170 until 100 jumps, then get a 150 for at least 200, after that stick to at least a 135 for a while. ciel bleu, Saskia -
"This thing" is apparently a Quasar. Yes an articulated harness feels better, provided it's at your measurements. I think I read somewhere that pro-swoopers like the rings less as harnasshifts are more difficult, but I may have that wrong, you'd be better off asking that question in Swooping and Canopy Control. ciel bleu, Saskia

You replied to ME, hence you implied I spelled it wrong Spelling stuff wrong is a pet peeve of mine, but being careless enough to reply to the wrong post is also up there ciel bleu, Saskia

I know how to spell that, thanx ciel bleu, Saskia

We've been over this again aind again If you barrel roll, I for one will not film you anymore, most if not all teams will not jump with you and you will get kicked out of just about every big way you attend... If you want to barrel roll, better go jump by yourself. ciel bleu, Saskia

I own a Fusion 120, got a few hundred jumps on mine. Very predictible canopy, predictable -nice- openings, very good flare. It's got HMA lines that last a long time (~1000 jumps) and HMA lines will not go out of trim like microlines, so that's part of what makes it so predictable. Anyway I love mine

Cessna 206 Jump Pilot positions in the UK?

Fusion (most HP canopy of this bunch), Safire 2, Pilot or Pulse (least HP of this bunch) should all suit you just fine as all are intermediate canopies with great openings and good flare. ciel bleu, Saskia

Rotator Cuff (What to Ask/Say to Doctor, Tandem?)
dragon2 replied to today4udrevil's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm kinda in the same boat right now. 3 weeks ago I land weird, on my right wrist. Wrist was ok a week later so I put a brace on it and did 4 camera teamjumps. Then a tandemvideo, where I needed to climb into the airplane without the step as I was last in. I couldn't put any weight on my right arm to pull myself up - WTF? Did the jump but after pulling my pilotchute from its pocket my arm would NOT move any further. C%^&*p, used my wrist to flick pilotchute away (I have big camerawings too so BIG burble), canopy opened ok but I couldn't even reach up to turn off my camera. I grounded myself after that jump, team was kinda annoyed but I had no idea what was wrong, my arm just wouldn't move in a couple directions. After a bit though, it started to HURT. Back to the doctor: I had almost dislocated my shoulder in that fall, hurt the muscles surrounding the rotator cuff, might also have teared it. So, still grounded for (hopefully only) a couple more weeks. I can not imagine a student jumper in that same position is a wise idea, if you have trouble with your rotator cuff especially on your right arm, me thinks this is not a sport for you. You can still do tandems just fine, just tell your TM and keep your arms in, no problem. Maybe staticline could also work for you, but any jump where you would have to pull yourself would be a risk I wouldn't take if you were my student. Did you tell your instructors you have this issue? What did they say? ciel bleu, Saskia -
check out this vid It's got just about everything you can do in the sky on it, may help you figure out what you wanna do in the sky Freefly starts @ 8:30, freestyle is right after. ciel bleu, Saskia

http://www.youtube.com/user/SkydiveUSPA#p/u/34/UHlib7AXHlY That's not freefly, but freestyle. Not too many people doing that anymore... If you want to freestyle, good luck, I've tried it and it's HARD ciel bleu, Saskia

Why would you use that function in freefall, why not just edit the slomo later? I've played around with that slowmo option on a HC5, IMO it's pretty useless, especially for skydiving. Also, making the hype-eye more complex isn't what most skydivers want: we'd prefer less complex! Just on/off would be good (like the cam-eye), as many of us have run into the hype-eye doing stuff we don't want it to ciel bleu, Saskia
