I did quite a lot of SL jumps, never counted to 3 in all of them. Then they dropped me from 5k without the SL, saying I had to pull after 5 secs. All of a sudden you bet I could count! And fast too ciel bleu, Saskia

First get to 30 jumps or so, before that it won't be worth buying gear because you may not be allowed to jump your own gear soon and you'll quickly outgrow the first (few) size(s) of canopies. Then go talk to your instructors. Also do a search here, first rig questions come up every week and there are some excellent articles on here to help you, http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/index.shtml for example. ciel bleu, Saskia

Yep. That was what was happening before. Now that they changed it, everybody should know (it's been published a fair number of times) that all Safire 1 and Omega's are affected and all other Icarus canopies are not. Do your homework. ciel bleu, Saskia

I totally do not follow that logic. ciel bleu, Saskia

What slot? We just let them do the excercises on their own. No need to watch them do it... ciel bleu, Saskia

We go one step farther than that; we have a few specific excercises we want a new wingsuit jumper to do takes a few jumps, you need to do these before your first flight. It's not mandatory in our country, but it is for 2 of our 4 wingsuit instructors Don't know how the other 2 prepare jumpers (Jarno?) ciel bleu, Saskia

Doesn't matter, it's a yearly event ciel bleu, Saskia

Who's Cliff S? If I remember right, it was Kai from Airtec who told me that? ciel bleu, Saskia

This may sound stupid, but you were flying forwards? Was there a strong wind? Just sounds like maybe packed with a stepthrough and the front was actually the back, and you were looking at the steering lines and the cascades? As previously said, I would doubt a canopy with "loose" A lines is steerable and landable. Chris Please go look at a canopy on the ground and try this yourself. The only way for a canopy to end up front to back is if you attached it that way. A step through will give you a twist in the risers, usually no problem on a larger canopy. ciel bleu, Saskia

If it detects a weird situation (like WT Thailand) it will SHUT DOWN for that jump. So it WON'T fire in a no-pull situation on that same jump! Also you will need to turn it back on after said jump of course. ciel bleu, Saskia

So what did the Cypres 1's do in this case? In Thailand, they went dead untill checked by Airtec. The Argus BTW reacts the same as Cypres2, in this case. ciel bleu, Saskia

After getting checked out after a slammer, the ER doctor released me after a few hours, with this: "You know, this is the first time I get to release a skydiver so soon. Usually, their chute didn't open." ciel bleu, Saskia

layout = stretched out, so a layout front/back loop is a "stretched loop" (and not tucked, as usual) T is a freestyle move, as is a daffy (or freefly), daffy is legs apart front-to-back, not sure what the combo is? Twist through is also a common freestyle move, a combo of a barrelroll and a 360 turn if I'm not mistaken. It looks cool and I can't do it, anyway style tuck pics here: http://www.parachute.nl/350.html ciel bleu, Saskia

? A score of more than 10 secs for speed gives you a better score than the max 10 secs? ciel bleu, Saskia

Best single-engined jump plane?

Grand Caravan, because it glides and lands pretty good when that one engine decides to self-destruct ciel bleu, Saskia -
Neck Injury during opening?
dragon2 replied to DroptheMan04's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah... A few weeks ago I got an instant opening of my vengeance, was jumping 2 camera's. Got slammed by my chest strap into my windpipe which broke the skin and my helmet slammed into the back of my neck. I just hung there for a while. Very lucky my vengeance opened straight and without damage (although I did find some small holes later on). Couldn't even move my head to look up much. Pulling the slider down to be able to undo my brakes (I have triple risers) took a fairly long time, but I felt I had to pull the slider down because flying with triples with a slider in the way sucks. That accomplished, I just hung there again. Note that I never even checked my canopy for damage, couldn't have moved my neck that far anyway, the canopy felt normal. Piloted my canopy real slow. Luckily I could flare, sort of, so I landed ok. But couldn't walk after that, couldn't MOVE. Was hurting all over, tailbone to neck, and half in shock I think.... The van had to come pick me up. Spent over 3 hours in the hospital, pictures showed a possible tear in one of my vertebrea, but turned out to be ok. It was more my back than my neck that hurt. My ribs still hurt, right now. But I did make some jumps again when i could MOVE everything again (not smart, ok, but it hurt as much on the ground as in the air so no difference really) Thing is, I got myself down in one piece because I HAD to. Would've liked to curl up and cry, but had to wait untill I was on the ground (and curling up was not an option untill a week later )... I was real lucky I didn't break anything and that I could move my arms and stuff. Still trying to figure out what caused the slammer, but have jumped the same canopy again, we're back to the usual slow openings again. ciel bleu, Saskia -

It was only one software version that was affected, replacements are shipping, at least over here. ciel bleu, Saskia

Do your instructors recommend a 150 reserve for you? I personally really don't like Tempo's, and would only buy a much bigger one - at LEAST 2 sizes - than my main (while I'd happily jump and have jumped smaller PD/Techno/Smart). ciel bleu, Saskia

Ditto on the bigger ways, please be careful with jumps like that. I once had a real close-up view of Hans' (Gadget's) Triathlon, because his group followed us out "try to stay with us" they ended up below us (as expected) but not BEHIND us! Hans slipped right underneath me and I didn't see him there (didn't EXPECT him there at all) until he let go of his pilot chute "Whaaat?!?" I veered off in a hurry so he went past me. Phew. Way too close for comfort. Just be careful, is all! ciel bleu, Saskia
