Anything between 2:1 and 3:1 60mph to 120 mph Anything between 180 mph and 30 mph or so Level flight possible after high speed dives/flaring Climbing possible from tailgate aircraft/high speed exits Use a calculator based on #1 around 1:1 seems to be what the best trackers can do (sans tracking gear). Again..do your own math Americans usually fall faster? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Kinda 'repost' though...maybe move it to the orginal thread before the repost police sniffs you out? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Just jump a lot! Have fun! Jump with other people! Freefly, RW...just enjoy and learn to move around in the sky... Dont waste your time on 100 solo tracking jumps... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Why does everything need a label? If a tandempassenger with 1 tandem wants to call himself a skydiver...what do I care... Same for wingsuits....if someone does 1 wingsuit jump per year and wants to go around yelling he is a 'wingsuit pilot' then who am I to deny him that pleasure? Worry about your own jumps, being safe and having fun...the rest doesnt matter.. And as for how many of 'us' there are...way to many but never enough.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Inflation mostly helps in taking pressure of your arms and legs.. Though lots of drag due to flapping material can make stable flight a bit more difficult.. Pointing toes also helps in keeping the legwing nice and tight.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The other pic looks mighty sweet in terms of body position. And that phantom pic is how most people (me included) start. As described in the post before, its the bend at the waist, and looking at your toes that tends to F* it up most often...stretch...relax..and fly it like a lazy boy JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Scott, If I may criticize your icon, your backfly position seems to be too overstretched. Chest completely pointing up/arms and legs pushed too far down. Just being flat is all you need to do to fly well on your back. Overstretching tends to cause a more floaty/wobbly backflying. Look at Jeff in videos, his relaxed backflying position, just 'hanging' in the wings is what Id recommend to people learning to fly on their back. The arms/legs should never be pushed beyond/beneath your torso (besides short stints of heavy upfloating). Just having them besides your body, or even slighly up (just like a lazy flying position on your belly) works better. Especially in the beginning. Just like bellyflight, pushing your arms and legs down to much (into a de-arch so to speak) can cause stalling, and all the wobbly side-effects coupled to that. Just focus on backflying a lazy position, with partialy closed legwing in the beginning. As you learn to fly that one stable on on-heading, slowly build up the amount you open the legwing. If you see your own feet while trying to backfly, you are most likely bending at the waist, usually causing massive diving (and turning if that position is not symetrical) Im working on a more in depth article on backflying (which in terms of position, doesnt differ too much per suit). Jeff, with your approval, Ill also be mailing the article to you for some thoughts/ideas/additions.. The number one rule for backflying> be relaxed...(in other words..dont forget to smile) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Thats awesome..the feeling of a good flair rocks. Its especialy awesome when seen from under a canopy or by another flyer. You can actually get the wingsuit to stand upright (like a space shuttle coming in for a landing) With practice, flares can be as slow as 5 mph without the naptune/protrack/altitrack switching off. If you do the transition from diving to full flight/flare smooth enough, it doesnt register as an opening, and the device keeps logging. Its even cooler if you manage to time that flare with a canopy flyby. Though definately not something you'd want to try at a low experience level. Check SoulFlyers 1 (DVD) for Loic doing some awesome flaired flybys past a CRW stack (even climbing relative to the canopies). Do note that turning your head or flying through someones burble can also cause weird spikes in the readings of sayd devices.. Depening on how much trust is put into logging devices and claims without the aid of those (or results that go past the logging abilities) some people have reported actually climbing/gaining altitude from high speed dives/flares (knowing one person who has made that claim a few times, without ever showin any phisical proof though as always with those kind of 'records') Though not outside of the real of possibility of course.. Thats why its there...If I didnt want people to print it, Id be offering it on our website as an expensive book, so it pays for some jumps Neeh..its all 'for the love of the game' so to speak.. So fire up that printer and enjoy.. I tried to keep it manufacturer neutral for several reasons. The most important one being, not having to update the article every two weeks. Listing current wingsuit models and keeping that list current is starting to become a fulltime job. And its manufacturer neutral, so people can focus on what they should be looking for/at in a wingsuit. Or at least try to understand design features and how those influence their flying. As normaly, these kind of subjects/questions tend to degrade into a contest of personal preference and brand vs brand. Might be an idea..Id have to look at James..he's the one able to update/change the FAQ. Though in reality, most people will probably still prefer skipping the FAQ and getting right into the brandwars Speaking of which..Ive also added matter and pressurised to the list of websites at the end of the article... Anyone thinking of starting a brand, or thinking he has some information that needs to be added to the article...feel free to drop me a line.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Also fixed a few zpelling errors and added flyyourbody to the list at the end (shame on me for forgetting them) Thank you Frits and Saskia for the quick heads up JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

a professional can still shoot an amateur video (not job-related) and an amateur can shoot a video thats rated professional (good). and a professionaly shot video can also be rated as an amateur production (bad). Definitions..definitions.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

There is a new article available on our website. Its aimed at new flyers, who are looking into buying their first suit. Its not meant a a definitive "You should choose this suit" The article doesn't compare different wingsuits, but rather focuses on the different design aspects, and how those influence the way you fly. Thus hopefully enabling a potential buyer to make a more educated choice, instead of have to purely base it on on other peoples opinions and or brand preferences. You can download the PDF article from this location: http://flylikebrick.com/articles/flb_wingsuits_compared.pdf In a day or so, the article will also be listed here: http://flylikebrick.com/safety-training.php A slightly updated version with some explanatory drawings is also planned for the near future. Enjoy! *edit* fixed the link (pointed to the wrong article for a second) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Any chance at holding a contest like this again? Im afraid the coming 2 months (both in terms of weather and time) dont allow for the playtime needed to also make something fun.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

And again, some PR for the event - We still have a few teams 'in the closet'. Hopefully those will also soon decide and announce themselves here. - Jeff N and Tony havent submitted a cool (or incredibly gay) teampic yet for the website and dont seem to have a cameraman (or do they?) - We've posted an early practice/trainingjump online to show a bit of flying. Some of the other teams have also showed a few of their traingvideos, and its real good to see people practice hard. If you have some cool trainingjumps to share, to help and get people excited, do show!
