When taking pictures is somebodies job, I fully understand the need for them to charge a price for what they do. Its a service people are providing, and nobody is forcing you at gunpoint to buy a certain picture. And if you do want it..you know what it costs... Though I do think sometimes it gets a bit weird when people charge slot + coaching fee + video + picture fee (on top of selling them a suit with a big margin) and a single 1 on 1 jump runs up into the hundreds of dollars... 'Spread the love' is often quoted, but there is a point where it ventures into 'pay my Ferarri' Charging for what you do is fine by me...ripping people off and asking them to pay a months rent for a single jump is a bit too much by my standard... But I guess thats looking a bit further than just pictures. Good one on this thread. The other thread feels a bit like advertising, and (IMHO) shouldnt even need to be there... Ive read all three books mentioned here, and can recommend getting the two older ones with regards to a more elaborate history and background on the early pioneers.. The Leo Valentin bio and Birdman, Batman & Skyflyers are both must have/must read books on that subject! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The answer was also in the 'Read this first' thread on the top..so the search function, though handy, wouldnt have been needed anyways.. But I think many people here respond passive/agressive due to a few too many people asking this same question, and after 100 replies all saying the same thing (NO! 200 at leeeast!) see them listening to the one person who tells them 'its okay' and doing things prematurly anyways.. And though there may be a new baby jesus in there somewhere who flies and walks on water without any previous experience, the examples I know all did less than perfect, and gave themselves a frustrated (and sometimes scary) first flight experience...instead of a relaxed and fun one..and thats outside of general safety issues for themselves and others... Good one you for making the commitment on wanting to fly a wingsuit this early, and already buying a suit you would want to fly in a few hundred jumps. But also remember, that though the suit may have been available at a good price now, as new models come allong, the prices drop on the older ones...its sadly not like cars, where the older ones increase in vallue (though some people selling 2nd hand suits do seem to think so at times, when you look at the prices) If/when you are ready for a first flight, I have no doubt in my mind 90% of the people here would be willing to assist you in your first flight and further coaching on your wingsuit career... What kind of feeling did you get when most people mentioned the words ABSOLUTE MINIMUM allong with 200? And even thats few/little experience... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think the balling up doesnt work as well on the bigger suits, due to the armwings being connected to the leg(wing) way bellow the knee. So even when the legs are closed/tucked, there is still a big portion of wing on the outside of the legs keeping the spin going. But hey...you big pussy...these sizes of wing will soon be labeled intermediate...I heard Blades and SM1s are already labeled beginner suits Regarding cutting away as a last resort. Id rather see someone pull a main in a bad spin at 5k (and having some altitude to get the twists out) than having them fight a cutaway down to the ground.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

He's asking advice, nothing dumb about that. Granted, this question gets asked about once every week on here, and about double that over email. But as long as there is a well formulated answer, which gives the poster a valid reason for following rules and recommendations...than its all good in my book.. I know its the Nth the question is answered here, but for him its the first time he asked. So the "F*k you're stupid" tone in your post is a bit overdone (or maybe Im just to kind) But to anyone wanting to get into this, and thinking about having his/her impatience be a valid reason for doing so...You'll be on this planet for a long time, and so will airplanes, wingsuits and rocks to jump from (if thats part of your future plans)...just dont rush it and you'll be able to enjoy it much longer and with less risk to you and the people around you! side subject: The fact that this same question can be found on this forum about 200 times, and people wanting to get into this, never taking the time to properly search (here and other resources) and learn just shows how the MTV/GoFast lifestyle is getting to people, and anything less than instant gratification is not interesting or worth the effort... Though in terms of skills, you may outclass a lot of flyers with 200 (or more) jumps, the flying you do in a wingsuit (with forward momentum added) is more akin to canopy flying than normal freefall. The closing speeds in a wingsuit jump can be double (to more) of that on normal jumps, where-as in a windtunnel, you are not really used to anything more than a few meters apart. And than there is a large part of awareness in terms of navigation and body position during opening which you also only develop over time. And performance wise, jumping at that low an experience level will most likely result in something resembling a bad tracking. Nice for the ego, as you jumped a wingsuit. But a useless added danger to you and everyone else on the load. That aside, with most countries enforcing 200 (or more) jumps as a minimum (be it just an advice or manditory rule), you own risk aside, the person coaching you also opens him/herself up to a world of pain in case of even the simplest mishap. Though its most likely not what you want to hear, I could name a dozen or more reasons for you to wait untill AT LEAST the recommended MINIMUM experience. And only one stupid reason for doing it as soon as possible...impatience... That aside, suits with bigger wings (such as the one you aquired) alse are far (FAR) from ideal for a first wingsuit jump. And getting your first 20 to 30 wingsuit jumps on a lent/rented smaller wing is 100% advisable, once you're at a suitable experience level for trying what you want to do. The last 4 or 5 wingsuit accidents in skydiving are all people with (your) low experience level, and often some experience in another sport or dicipline (be it linked to skydiving/base or not), which they deemed worthy/suitable for doing what they wanted to try. In all cases, its the family and loved ones left with the concequences of that decission... My advice..wait and jump your ass off.. You'll be glad you did when you look back a few hundred jumps later.. http://www.flylikebrick.com/wingsuit-faq.php for some tips and suggestions on what to do and practice in the jumps that lay ahead.. Placed the CX105 on a bellymount, and threw it around the sky at all angles and agressive rolls and turns, and not a single problem with the image skipping or anything, and the colours look beautifull.. Must have toy! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

If you are going to use gues-temates to make a point, at least try and use a bit more than just your flawed method of eyeballing, which in turn is based on your biased views on what everyone else needs to be doing to make you sleep better. Though not an authority on the matter (Im not that big of a GPS junkie yet) my work does enable me to do a quick analysis of the picture posted as an 'example'. Matching the camera lens, and then (in 3D) the angle based on the horizon and perspective, its easy to position a model over the one seen in the picture. Only using 2D positioning (up and back) to match the smoke angle. When I take the resulting image overlay, and look at it from a sideview in 3D, it gives us a rough estamate of the angle at which the smoke is coming out. Though nowhere near the performance you usually dream off while flying one handed under your bedsheets, the results are a bit more positive that the tracking results you're using here to stroke your own ego... attachment camera_track.jpg JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Ive never really watched anything streaming from SkyDivingmovies. Just download first (so you have it on your HD if you want to view it again), and then play in a stand-alone player (instead of in a browser). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Even in an S1, all previously mentioned recovery methods work exactly the same, and in event of a flatspin, cutting the armwings away is not taking the source/cause of the flatspin away and could actually be counter-productive (especialy if release is not even/complete on one side). Though the psychological effect of having ones arms 'free' will for some be a method of being able to stop the spin, its definately (on any suit) not the prefered method of doing so... You don't have to register to look at dropzone.com, just to post to it. That's the way most forums are set up. You also dont have to register on skydivingmovies.com to browse the filenames Its when you want to interact (post comments on video, download) that you need registration. Shame, as you're missing out on a whole lot of fun stuff to watch.. I guess you also dont use facebook (as you cant watch 90% of whats on facebook acounts without registration..even if you dont want to participate).. You've already spent more time here complaining why you dont like SDM, than it would have taken to make an account and start downloading the funstuff JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

So the whole GoFast vs Red Bull thing will not be an issue there? I hate brandwars JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Ditto. Don't understood why it requires registration, so I never bothered. +1 ... I really wanted to see this, but the long wait is unacceptable. Weird, as downloads stream in pretty quick here from Skydivingmovies.com, and concidering its a free service (even if it did take longer) I wouldnt really mind. Bitching about registration being needed to use the site, while on a website on which you had to register to use it....thats just funny.. It took me half a minute to sign up for SDM.com and I always enjoy watching the new videos. Shame for those who cant look past the registration, as you're missing a lot of incredibly cool videos (to watch during work-hours) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think it also depends on the load organiser. But if they do a great job, whats 'decent' If its somebodies fulltime job, you cant expect them to fly to Swiss (or wherever), sleep in a hotel, make lots of jump filming you and briefing/debriefing, eating, and then hope to pay for all that by putting 10 euros in a hat with a group of 15 people.. At some point these guys have to make a living, and you just need to see the vallue in what they are providing.. I think wingsuit is one of the few diciplines in skydiving where people still dont see the added vallue of coaching (and the price some people ask), and prefer to pay 20 to 30 euros max for a full week of video/coaching/debriefs etc, while its perfectly normal to get a full week of freefly coaching at a price of 2 slots + 30 euros (per jump). That aside...I think his 'amazing...' was aimed at the video/event information posted in the first message of this thread JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Plastic boogie bracelets are horror..Sometimes they want to put em on your rig, on the MLW, having a nice sharp plastic bit sliding past/cutting into your wingsuit on every jump...blech! After 2 days at a boogie, you can usually recognise people by the blood-shot eyes, and permanent marker 'I sukz the c$ck!' written on ones fore-head after falling asleep in the bar..who needs a plastic bracelet.. And imagine you DID choose to cut away your wings in freefall, and accidently releasing one before the other (or not completely releasing the other). You'd be in a whole heap of additional shizzle. Not to mention a load of flapping fabric behind or in front of your main/reserve handles (depending on orientation). There are other ways of coming out of a spin than balling up, but body-symetry is a LARGE factor in that, and many people tend to lean/watch with or against the direction of a spin. So balling up is the old fashioned, but 99,9999% foolproof way of doing so if the other methods dont work. But dont cut wings in freefall...its a whole heep of additional trouble you're getting yourself into otherwise... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The classic example is flat-spin. The classic example, though not the correct answer. Flatspins are created by the legwing, and a heavy upperbody (people usually instinctive pull their arms in, when they encounter a spin). This your body is a propellor. A heavy lump in the center, and a spinning blade (the legwing). Cutting away the armwings will make a flatspin worse. You're only creating less drag/counterforce on your upper body, giving the legwing (which is spinning you) more and more of a chance to put you in such a spin. Taking the legwing out of the equation (closing it/arching/balling up) is the correct action to undertake, and this will stop the spin within a second or two. Always use a standard 3 step recovery - arch (banana/lazy delta position) - ball up (when first one doesnt work) - pull (when you're getting low, better under a canopy at 4000 ft with 20 linetwists, than wrapped in a reserve canopy at cypres altitude) Cutting away wings is not really part of a succesfull recovery to stable freefall, besides for some people being a mental 'now Im free again'. The cutaways/sleeve systems are there for canopy related situations, where the need to free ones arms up arrises quickly. Be it spins, evasive actions (base), jammed zippers or correctable canopy malfunctions. In case of a cutaway, the yellow cables also shouldnt be used, and one can go directly for the cutaway. The wingsuit cutaway cables are cheap, dont spend too much time or effort holding on to them, if a situation arrises where you need your hands free for other things.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
