Yup..but sometimes you get this new toy, and you cant resist playing with it a little bit. Guilty as charged. But flying an Acro2 for most of the jumps I do back here at the moment. Does that get me off the hook... But as to big suits. The worst part is, do it to much and you turn into an incredbly lazy flyer. And for light people, it can actually hinder their abilty to dive/match the forward speed due to not having the proper wingload to fly the thing at speed. Again..the right tool for the right job...and bigger isnt always better. Thanx..couldnt resist throwing that one in. Also as the slot I was flying there was (upper body) in the burble quite a lot during the jump. And there, the large surface of the Stealth2 actually helped me stay 'afloat' quite a few times when I slightly overshot my slot, and was fully in the burble. And breakoff (4k), speeding up, andfloating up on/behind the 5k breakoff wave for a flyby (with a legal pull altitude) that was sheer fun.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I know your comment was in jest, but what I was mostly refering to was (new/unexperienced) people trying something new (be it a new suit or new move/skill) for the first time in a big flock. Which isnt always the wisest thing to do. If someone is capable of backflying (pony in the mouth or not) and is actually able to backfly without turning into a diving unguided projectile seeking a target....if its within ones ability, and not putting others at risk. Sure..and of course you'll always have some 'do as I say, dont do as I do..' as its skydiving, and the high level of ADHD people doing (sometimes a bit too) spontanious things can sometimes turn it into the high-risk sport the way the whuffo-crowd sees us. But in general. Just refrain from doing stuff near a formation, which you wouldnt be comfortable doing (100% within your own ability) on a solo jump. And the matrasses...yes..like I sayd earlier...its overkill. At Zflock, showing a bit of the Stealth2 was part of my job description, but outside of time oriented jumps and having fun getting an extra minute of freefall after breakoff, in a formation something smaller such as a Phantom2 or Acro2 can be much more fun (and actually require a bit of work) to fly. The thing I like most about the smaller suits is that the inputs to fly them are much more subtle. Where-as on the big suits (like you mentioned a few posts up) when not flying max, you sometimes have to stick arms and legs into all kinds of big direction to fly, and end up in weird crampy positions. When these suits are flown to the fullest, it can be an awesome thing. The only formation thing Ive found the big suit helpfull for (unless you're a heavy bloke) is flying half inside someones burble, or flying with some of our local guys who just put their 90% flying onto being base, and coming down with 2:30 flocking jumps from 12k. And sometimes its uncomfortable flying during the flock, just because flying slowly after breakoff is soo much fun. But like any other thing. Choose the right tool for the right job. This should/could actually be worth a split-off thread, seeing as the discussion on the recent invention of wingsuit 'freefly' (or: discovery that you can do more than flying a wingsuit on one straight line/glide angle) is getting a bit muffled.. p.s. Upload your ZFlock video! I want to start editing. Already done pre-cutting all the other footage from Scotty etc JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Yes...yet bigways still seem to be the arena where most jumpers prefer getting their flying skills fresh off their FFC, and then trying their first hand at backflying etc. at breakoff because there is a cameraguy flying next to them and it seemed cool JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Its a law up to the point where several jumpers in Marl are now facing quote extensive fines for breaking the rules on freefall time/passing a cloud etc. So yes, a very real problem. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think its because you're being a lazy ass (as usual) As all the questions you ask here (what wide-angle, what setup) have a topic of their own with sometimes into the hundreds of replies. But Xshut..yea..why not, wide-angle, just go for one of the flat (single element) 0.5/0.6 lenses from waycool etc. Plenty of those being offered 2nd hand now, with everyone shifting to HD lenses. 0.3 (unless inside video, and 100% close flying is your thing) will probably be too wide, and mostly give you video with small specs in the distance. Space Shuttle Atlantis STS 125 Launch Official Video

Cool stuff, Ill put it up on WWWN like the previous video in a bit! Whats un-official about Scotties video though? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Rant warning... In the end, people are always trying to be the Olav zipster of wingsuit flying. But sadly, most of us got in a few years to late to be able to make that claim, and several of the real heroes and pioneers (of modern flying) are still out there flying from Planes and Cliffs. But we just have no clue who they are, because they dont visit the micro-universe we call dz.com or the actual internet itself And I know there are several people out there who could still give some of the current heroes of the dicipline a run for their money. But sadly they put the wingsuits away (shortly/permanently?) because they're doing silly worldchampionship freefly or camera things etc. You dont see them in a wingsuit a lot these days, but people like Tim Porter, Andy Ford, Andrew Scott etc. where flying at current day 'top level' several years ago, and (though not always having everything online and on video) doing stuff most people now are repeating and calling their invention. that aside...Olav is also flying wingsuit (be it not a lot) and (all the BS about freefly and who owns the term aside) an incredibly nice guy, and its awesome seeing people like him, with a huge background in other diciplines easily make the change to wingsuit flying. As to them, its just freeflying with more lift, but in the end, its flying your body. And even more funny seeing guys like that fly circles around us, and show us tails at breakoff, in suits not bigger than what we would classify intro-level wingsuits. While we are doing the lazy, coward thing, and jumping every flock in a tarp the size of manhattan, while we'd really only need 1/3d if we wanted to work hard and learn more.. Okay...end of rant.. My message to everyone...get those smaller suits out of the closet, and work on flying them long and hard. Fly a small suit at 95% and work your ass off, instead of flying a big suit and flying at at 45%. The big suits are fun at breakoff, sometimes needed for heavy folks. But look at most videos out there. Usually half of the fabric is just hanging back, instead of being a proper tight flying surface..fly, fly, fly! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I bet those FlockU guys will patent/register the name wingsuit freefly™ and have us all pay $20 every time we say the word!!! Just watch! And Justin Shorb posters for childrens bedrooms (they tried Purple Mike posters, but somehow that seemed to make little kids cry and have bad dreams)! I do see they already have shirts, hoodies and coffee-mugs already on their site....and they jump the Scalloped XS...ooh my g#d! You guys are slowly turning into Birdman I do believe Justin was the first person to fly docked with a pony...god Im jealous... ps. Jeff didnt invent the internet. Al Gore did!

Not lugging a pony around in freefall also helps (but whats the fun in that) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

(not you Scotty) but why is everyone always soo damn eager to stick 500 new names, firsts, records and god knows what kind of claims on something done in freefall. Wingsuit freeflying? Wingsuit FLYING! Playing in more than one angle/direction of flight. But wingsuit FLYING The headdown exits, cool as they may be. The wingsuit isnt used for much more than making the corking a lot more dangerous/bigger impact on hits. There isnt a single thing about it where the wingsuit actually ads to it. The gravitron on the other hand is one of the finest examples, and also the only 'wingsuit freefly' move so far which actually ads/uses the traveling/flying aspect of a wingsuit to move through the sky 3 dimensionaly. Sorry if this comes off as a rant, but I see more and more boogies advertised with a bazillion new subdiciplines on multipoint, sequential, hybrid, freefly, inverted multilevel, bi-direction, multisexual, transvestite formations... Whats wrong with 'wingsuit flying' We're barely a dicipline and people already feel the need to invent 400 sub diciplines. Wingsuit flying for performance, aerobatic flight, and formation flying. Why all the extra marketing quotes? Go voodew JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Freefly Babylon 3:40 into the video. This video is over a year old. and its not the first time they've been doing this. And I know there is a (I think Swedish/Norwegian) video on skydiving movies (could be freefly boogie or wingsuit boogie) showing some headdown flying with a wingsuit from way back 2002 or so. Im browsing SDM, but maybe someone else knows what Im talking about and can post the link here. Not that I personaly always see the added vallue of 'headdown flying with a handicap' in a wingsuit. But braggingwise, claiming to have invented headdown wingsuit flying in recent years is pretty useless. From the start, many people have also been carving around RW/FF/tandems in big circles using a wingsuit, which is probably as close to freeflying (and still using the wingsuit to some effect) as you can get... Who is the person claiming to have invented it just last month? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

http://news.flylikebrick.com/2009/05/vuelolibretv-wingsuit-item.html I do get the impression some of the photos on the show where a bit of an online 'help yourself' download and use em kinda action (Im in there for a few seconds as well) But photo-credit aside...seems like a nice show (though no clue what they are actually saying) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Any speed, as long as its about 1/2 or less of the speed you are doing forwards JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Performance wise there are some small changes in terms of the wing shape/size, and (most noticably) the inlets. With the airintake now being located as ram-air inlets underneath the wing (also allowing full presurisation at steeper flight angles, past normal flight) The suit thus having a completely smooth leading edge, decreases drag by a large margin and increases performance as well. In general its all small details that have been changed and updated, but it makes for an even more complete package, which is more than enough for 99% of all flights/flocks done from airplanes. Nobody arguing here. I fully agree these big suits are overkill, especially flockingwise. Though the flappy aspect you mention isnt really the case with inflation on most of the newer big models. The only reason I like the suit is the extreme slowfall capability at breakoff. Having played a bit with my GPS, yesterday I did 2 canopy flybys with 12 mph fallrates, and 5.4 glide ratio on the second one (only for +-30 seconds, flare after a dive! not sustainable! do note the difference!). The feeling of just hovering there, and having eyecontact with someone under canopy, while almost hanging still relative to them, its fun... And the same goes for doing time-related jumps. From Stealth1 to Stealth2 the biggest update is forward speed. With the suit now having an increased angle of attack due to the bigger legwing, and also smooth leading edge (also the new bottom/top ram-air inlets) it flies a lot faster/better than its baby brother. In general, suits designed for speed such as the V3 do much, much better distance wise than the big tarps. But the hangtime is fun, and some heavy people do know how the milk the suits for distance. But its not the design intent. Look at marl, where a 'tiny' Phantom2 flown by Denis was outscoring several of the aforementioned XS flyers. But in flocks. Its useless/insane to fly these big suits, and it develops lazy flyers who have the suit do most of the 'flying' (collapsed falling) for them. Especially people not in the heavy to overweight section, diving and flying with en enough forward speed (relative to others) is a huge problem, as you just lack the wingload to properly fly these monstersuits at the same speed. I havent seen the Rigor Mortis, but anyone looking at the Trigger and not knowing what he/she is looking at usually calls it a V1/2/3. Its awesome seeing soo many wingsuit developers/designers, but sometimes its hard seeing the innovations and/or improvements on current designs already out there.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Though cool to see, most Giboline wingsuit look like skyflyer3 variations. And though upper winds could very well result in 3.7 glide, I doubt its the actual performance of the suit itself. But maybe Im just too much of a sceptic.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The movi was fully shot in HD, but finalised in normal PAL and NTSC (SD) resolution. For all people who asked, all PAL copies have been shipped, and so have a load of NTSC copies. But in that later one, a small encoding/burning error was found (causing a playback error in one of the DVD extras). Even though the main film and other videos are all working, we've choosen to replace the current batch asap. to make sure everyone receives a quality product (as you are used to from PF) There are new NTSC copies made this week, and they will be shipped directly to US costumers monday in a week. Our apologies for this small delay. For those not willing to wait, we can ship you the current version, and swap out the DVD for a new one in a week or so. Let us now if thats what you prefer. People asking about orders, PF is handling all EU (pal) orders, and Morpheus is handling all US (ntsc) orders. I will keep everyone up to date on whats happening here. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
