I am definetly still afraid of heights! Over 1100 jumps and still afraid! It's funny, because if I'm over the DZ it's much more comforting being open high but I'm usually not open above 2 grand so there's not a lot of time for anything else but set up to hook and land. Cross-country jumps are another thing, WAY too much time in the saddle! Over clouds and through the cloud turbulance, up drafts and the like kind of wierd me out. To much time to think of all the what ifs. I already know how I react to a mal on opening (1 c/a) but I find myself not trusting my harness when I'm in the saddle for a long time. Building heights dont bother me as long as I can hold onto something fixxed, but to walk up to an edge with no railing makes me light headed. I think it's that impending injury thing, a gust of wind catches me and I not wearing a parachute! my .02. Conway 1105

I went to the store the other day, and I was in there for only about 5 minutes. When I came out there was a damn motorcycle cop writing a parking ticket. So I went up to him and said, "Come on, buddy, how about giving a guy a break?" He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. So I called him a pencil-necked Nazi. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for worn tires! So I called him a piece of horse shit. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket! This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote. I didn't care. My car was parked around the corner. The video showed his hands pull down on the dive loops before impact. Still coherent, he was Life-Flighted to the hospital. One month later his family decided to pull the plug. He was semi- conscious for a couple of weeks before the infection set in and he went back into a coma. Before you start racing cars, you learn to drive a regular car well. Before you drive race cars you soak up all the knowledge you can from the best available coaches and take small steps to prepare. Flying your canopy is very much the same. Just because you drive a fast car does'nt mean that inherently you will die doing it, but the faster you drive it your odds go up. Hook turns get a bad rep from people that push beyond their skill level or better yet their intelligence level. Where I was hookig my X-Fire 99 from, my Xaos 85 will bury me. Knowing what your canopy can and cannot do will keep you alive. Pulling out to save your ass might screw up your swoop but keeps you alive to practice again. Fear keeps us alive. My .02 Conway 1097

Maybe there's just a little more respect shown at my DZ than others, but it's usually pretty obvious whether a girl enjoys the attention or not. If she does'nt, she usually won't keep getting it but if she does she will get it in heaps! I don't believe that we,as skydivers are so different in most aspects of life outside of jumping out of p/g airplanes and living day to day for it. We often forget that we are all like children in that we always push to see where the limit is. And with other people, skydivers or not we should respect their space once we understand where that comfortable space is. If someone does'nt appreciate the comments/complements then the people giving them should respect the fact that they are intruding in protected airspace and should respect that and back off. If that leaves them all alone, that may well be their choice and we should respect that.

Erno, The main idea with all rw jumps is matching fallrate, it's just that the bigger it gets, the more important it becomes! I think the reasoning for more speed is to keep the big boys (and/or girls) from going low!

Yea Dave, It was called the Transco bldg. in the Galleria area. The tallest building in the U.S. outside of a downtown area. You can see it well from Spaceland at altitude.

Latest news; drivers license and a statement were in his shoe but still undisclosed. Watching it on TV he started climbing very fast. Some inside the building said that he appeared to have run out of strength and apparently was saying the Lords Prayer before launching himself some 30' away from the building
