I've had a Hornet 170, Pilot 150 (borrowed), Safire2 149 (demo), and Hornet 150 in my container that was made for a 150. Of the 3 150 sized canopies (varying ages, etc.), the Pilot packed the largest, Safire 2 packed the smallest, and the Hornet was somewhere in between.

1: the laptop I use all the time for almost everything 2: an old IBook I bought because it was cute and it made a good portable DVD player, haven't turned it on in over a year, but it still has some stuff on it that I want to copy over to another computer before I ditch it 3: an even older desktop that I don't use much at all, but it also still has stuff I want on it, and it's hooked up to my scanner and all the other peripherals cluttering up my desk at home

It might depend on the container - when I got my Wings I was told by the manufacturer that I could squeeze a 170 into it (and they were right, it was tight), have a 150 fit nicely (it does), and still be able to put a 135 in safely (haven't tried this yet).

SkyVenture NH Bringing Bodyflight to the World!
AllisonH replied to WindWorX's topic in Wind Tunnels
Do we just have to join by 12/31/06, or do we have to use the time by then too?? -
Today's Thursday, so I'll go out to lunch with my work friends. Usually we either do the pizza hut buffet or the restaurant in the student union on campus.

I was also told to get used gear first, and I looked for about 4 months, but didn't find anything that would fit me and the size canopies I wanted to put in it. I opted to get a new container and reserve, and a used main (170) and cypres. I have since traded the first main for a smaller one (150) of the same type at no cost other than shipping. I'm very happy with the way my container fits, and I'll be able to downsize one more time (to ~135) without needing a new one.

I'm also an only child (and yes, there are a lot of perks to it, but there are some not so great parts too)

Urgent need help! wings ext cutaway cable length...
AllisonH replied to NWPoul's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'm not sure about wings vs wings ext, but the size of the yoke and placement of the handle (not sure if this varies?) would make a difference. -
Haven't talked about specifics of arrangements, but my parents would be responsible for that, and honestly I don't really care what they do - I'm of the opinion that memorials/funerals/burial arrangements are more for those who are left behind than for the one who's passed on. I do, however, have a healthcare power of attorney, advance healthcare directive, and a will.

Changing dropzones without an A license shouldn't be a problem, I did it last year and they just looked at my log book, asked me some questions to make sure I knew what was going on, and put me in the hanging harness because I was going to be jumping a different type of gear. Just make sure your log book and progression card are filled out clearly and indicate what you've done on your jumps, any additional training you've gotten, what kind of gear you've jumped, etc. Having the number of your old dz and/or an old instructor would be good just in case there are any questions, but probably won't be needed.

I'm sure no one would complain if you paid your "beer" in Jaeger and Red Bull :-)

I've had both a Safire2 149 and a Pilot 150 in my rig in the past couple of weeks, and the Pilot definitely packed larger. The person I traded canopies with to try the Pilot (which I loved...) noticed the same thing.

I have a friend who put in a little chocolate (the unsweetened baking kind) to cut the acidity a bit... I thought it was the weirdest thing when I saw it, but it tasted really good.

Fortunately I haven't had one yet, though now that I say this I probably will.... My Hornet has always opened nice and slow for me.

I'd say hug & hold is my favorite, but it kind of depends on who it's from. I'll take pretty much any kind.

Without looking it up, I'm guessing that AlkaSeltzer is a mix of sodium bicarbonate and aspirin. I doubt the bicarb will do anything for the soreness, so if AlkaSeltzer had any effect, it was probably because it contains aspirin. Sounds like you are having some kind of abnormal muscle pain and should see a doctor. Is it all over aches or restricted to certain areas of your body? Walt I'm not sure how effective drinking it is, but bicarbonate made in your body is used to buffer/neutralize lactic acid. Edit to add: Bicarbonate loading has been used in the past by athletes to prevent the changes in pH that occur with exercise, but too much of it causes gastrointestinal distress, so large quantities are not good unless you enjoy diarrhea while running...

Depends on who, if anyone, I'm sharing a bed/room with, and how cold it is. Sometimes naked, sometimes t-shirt and underwear, sometimes PJ pants and top.

A freefly organizer I didn't know (not my home DZ, and I wasn't jumping with him) once decided it would be fun to spin my altimeter around a bit in the plane. He tried to put it back where it was, and it only ended up being off by ~300 feet so it wasn't a huge deal, but it definitely freaked me out a little!

That depends on what you're interested in... Lots of things you could do. Ride the (crap, it's been too long, what are they called?? - the boats that take you around everywhere) Vaporetto? down the grand canal after sunset. Hang out in San Marco piazza and eat/drink/listen to music. Eat lots of gelato and/or fresh coconut purchased on the side of the street. Hit one or more of the museums. Venture out to some of the islands (Murano, Burano, etc.) to watch them make glass, lace, etc. Hang out on the Lido beach. Do the typical I'm in Italy so I'd better look at a lot of churches and art thing. Personally if I don't have a lot of time I prefer to do one or two things and really enjoy them, others prefer to run around frantically trying to fit in everything. Figure out before you go which kind of person you (and any others with you) are, and you'll enjoy it more :-)

A friend and I both fell asleep on a bus in Italy a few years ago and missed our stop. It wasn't a bus station, just a stop along the side of the road, so when we woke up fortunately I knew where we were, and it only took us ~45 minutes to walk back.

Had mine on #61, and as someone suggested earlier in this thread it was because of a broken brake line, and I cut it away instead of trying to land w/ rear risers.

We got my mom (who can't read a map and usually calls either me or my father when she gets lost, and isn't that great at figuring out how to use new electronic gizmos either) a Garmin GPS for Christmas. She loves the touch screen and voice prompts, and hasn't had any trouble using it. We've taken it through at least 5-10 states plus part of Canada since getting it, and have been quite pleased. I'm not sure what model it is... It's the one the guy at Best Buy recommended and runs around $600-700. Don't have experience with other types, so can't really compare it to anything.

I go to the library and check out free entertainment - books, CDs, DVDs, etc. I also don't have cable, home phone, or home internet (this is easier for me than for some other people since I live alone). I eat at home and bring my lunch to work, except for the occasional fast food meal on the weekends in between jumps. I don't cook meat or drink pop or coffee, so that helps keep the grocery bills down, and I try to buy generic whenever possible. I also tend to buy things I use a lot in larger quantities, but only when they're on sale.
