What can we do about the USPA.....
jlmiracle replied to diablopilot's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The inspection program is not bad for members, its bad for DZ's so they don't use the inspection program because they all know they won't pass. judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -

What insurance? Only individual members get insurance through the USPA. So there is even less value to the GM Program. Since we are talking Group Member Program. how did the tunnel (Orlando) become group member and who decided how much to charge them because their is no tunnel cat on the application. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -

First, I agree with you that the Group Member Program needs to go away. This has been discussed over and over and over for years. To many GM DZO's on the board to change that. Second, go to a board meeting, they will let you know why some of it is closed sessions, otherwise, you, as a member, can sit in on most everything discussed. If you do plan on attending a meeting, get yourself familiar with Roberts Rules or Order and find out what edition they are going to be using. Third, the BOD is trying to do something about Skyride due to the amount of complaints from individual members. Do you expect them to just blow them ALL off? I would hope not. That's all I've got to say about that before my internet crashes again. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
What about affirmative action hires? I've worked for companies that have HAD to hire those less qualified to meet a number. Those employers DIDN'T get to CHOOSE the most qualified person. So not all employers have the right to pick and choose who they REALLY want. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

***If someone whose spouce smoked worked there, they should understand the risk that their spouce is inflicting on them. So this particular company should be able to tell their employees how to handle their relationships or risk losing their job? I don't think so. Sounds like a cult. Next they will think its okay to pick your spouse, where you live, what you eat, what your hobbies are, what you drive, etc... If you want the government in your house, in your face, in your bedroom, in your car, that is your privlege in this wonderful country, as is my right to smoke at my house (I don't smoke inside), on my land that I pay for and taxes on. What if one of these employees gets a ride to work from their spouse that smokes. Their clothes will probably smell of smoke and now its up to the employee to HAVE to prove its not them. What a great country Guilty til proven Innocent. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Rehmwa - all I gave you was the definition of Civil Rights as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary. If you want to make this into a bigger issue, that's fine. I don't work for that company, nor ever will. And some people could debate whether or not gender is a voluntary issue. Ever heard of a sex change? Now we are talking about cigar smoking? No, just the rights belonging to an individual by virtue of citizenship including civil liberties, due process, equal protection of the laws, and freedom from discrimination. Civil Rights include equal protection of the laws and freedom from discrimination. They are discriminating against people who smoke. We might just as well live in Cuba. I hope they go after the drinkers - I can't stand being around drunk people. They smell, they can't speak correctly, they fall down, slobber, break stuff and make messes, not to mention all the work they miss cause they are hungover. But that's another debate. I don't, and I don't understand my old man either (78). 1st time. You smoke and it makes you cough. It's not that hard a concept, is it? Is this thread here for you and Ron to preach to us smokers or is it about civil rights. I know smoking is bad for me. I will quit some day, just not today. Drinking is bad for you and skydiving can be detrimental to your health also. Ron and Rehmwa - how many people have you told (maybe more Ron than Rehmwa) they shouldn't jump that canopy and how many times did those people listen. Both can kill you. Now back to civil rights. * Smokers have more days off sick each year. *** Do they have more sick days than those that drink? I don't drink AT ALL but I do smoke about 1/2 a pack a day. I have not had to miss work because of illness in 3 years, yet those that drink (usually too much) can't seem to make it in every day. Those that have kids miss more work than ANY other group (smokers/drinkers, etc.) I know. I do not blame anyone for my smoking but me, not the tabacco companies, not society, just me, but that does not give an employer the right to fire me because of my LEGAL habit. A tad better than what? He can drop off his rig at the manufacturer and they will do the mod and ship it back to him. Do you expect them (Mirage) to drop everything they are doing to everyone else's rig who has paid that kind of money also and do the mod immediately on your friends rig? If I had rig there getting worked on and then because someone showed up at their front door because they are in Florida and my stuff got put on hold, THEN I would be pissed. This has happened to me more than once but I didn't panic. A few time it happened I just pulled real hard and it freed. One time, I just took off my glove. I wasn't going to let it distract me from flying my canopy or landing. I wear gloves all the time and I just don't let them scare me. I know what I have to do to survive. If its not packed - it should be a cheap easy fix. The problem is today's sue happy society. If Mirage doesn't make it mandatory then if something happens - even if its a rigging error - they will get sued. In a thread from a year or so ago several people from dz.com said they would sue the manufacturer if the manufacturer new there could possibly be a problem. Get people to stop suing and take responsiblity for themselves and their actions and we probably won't have these mandatory service bulletins. Randy was there taking pictures so I would assume they will. Some pretty awesome exhibits. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Under Armor makes a receiver glove both cold weather and warm weather. I just bot some of the cold gear receiver gloves and they work great! Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

PK - that is totally screwed up because I didn't think the people on dz.com would do that but I KNOW someone from rec.dot will because they did it to me, but fortunatly I was able to keep my job. Hang in there PK! Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

The question you need to ask yourself is - Do you want someone on your team that is not going to give you a commitment or if they do, and then flip flop on you, would you really want them on your team? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I agree with you Ron. I noticed that (falling down) at WFFC this year. I was not all impressed with the pond swooping when they all get to fall down. I was much more impressed when they stood up afterwards. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Both jumpmasters (instructors) that jump with students must have an AFFI rating at most dropzones in the US. It is not a US law, but it is required in the BSR's. Not all dropzones will recognize a rating from another country. The USPA is a voluntary organization. You don't have to be a member of the USPA to skydive. I have yet to experience anything more exciting than what they showed me during the AFF course. It really looked like that student was decapitated, but it was only his helmet. Now on the other hand, I have had several very exceptional students. They were so good, I felt bad getting paid. I now have a visual of what happened and it would have been nice to have someone to "catch" you when they pulled your cutaway handle. Heal quickly!

Well now, that's a little different. YOU, being a trained medical pereson, may want to have a little seminar or at minimum speak with the DZO about how and who should respond and/or touch the injured person. I thought most of us learned that in grade school and high school. Were you off the ground dangling from the fence, and if so how high? Sorry you got hurt and hope you heal soon.
