  1. Well, I've decided to go to Wolf Trap Farm Park to see the musical Beauty and the Beast with a friend and her eight-year old daughter. It's an outdoor theatre with a roof, but no sides. The high temperature is calling for 68 degrees, rain, and 22 mph winds. Something is wrong with having to wear a coat on September 1... I might get one day of jumping in, but I really need to work on getting a tax return finished. I guess I'll work on that. Maybe I'll get it finished.
  2. Be her friend - IF YOU CAN - if not - women are like buses - - they come by every 5 minutes or so. One that you will like just as much and will take you to where you want to go... What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.
  3. I just got back from Mike's standing-room only memorial service. The recurring theme was that he made everyone feel like he was their best friend. He really knew how to have fun and loved everyone he met. I'd say that he lived a very successful life. His family, coworkers, and friends are celebrating the joy that he brought into their lives in the midst of their sorrow. He will be greatly missed. 4. My avatar was taken at SkyVenture Orlando with Joe, the tunnelrat in 2005. I've been told that I look just like that... An ear-to-ear smile... The 'skyface' was taken on my first skydive on my 52nd birthday. I never intended to do more than that one jump... 5. That's poignant... What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.
  6. I'm gonna have to try this. Sounds like a belly horny gorilla and instead of legs it uses arms. Cool beans. I didn't think a horny gorilla was supposed to spin. Don't you just hook legs together and beat your chest while flying on your back? What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.
  7. i'm a little confused... So your left hand has a high grip on the person to your right?? No, you start out with high grips. One person keys and the right hand takes the right wrist of the person on the right, making the Oppenheimer logo. When that is stable your left hand is put down your left side, your legs extend straight out as if you were in a track. The result is a pinwheel action that eventually makes the formation fly apart... no problem in getting separation when that happens.
  8. On Sunday I did my 400th skydive with jumpjunkie2004, waltappel, and dcgilbert. Walt suggested an ‘Oppenheimer.’ If you've ever seen the logo for Oppenheimer Funds you'll get a visual of what the center of the formation looked like. We exited in a round, stuck our right hands in the middle, and grabbed the wrist of the person to our right. The middle is what looked like the Oppenheimer logo. Everyone went into a full track, and we spun around until we couldn't hold on any longer. We came back together after the first rotation blew apart and did it again before breakoff. Woo Hoo!!! What fun!!! Thanks, guys, for making that jump so memorable and fun!!!
  9. How can anyone hate those furry little tree rats? They're just hungry... and clever enough to figure out ways to get food people meant for other critters. I admire their cleverness, and they taste like chicken.
  10. mjosparky was the first to share his vast wealth of knowledge with me through PMs. I have been a lot more confident on some jumps because he was kind enough to write. He's a great encourager.
  11. Hmmm what song would be good? Quote Amazing Grace What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.
  12. The origin of the expression 'how's your father' can be traced back to Victorian times. In those days any man with a daughter was so protective of her virtue that he would take extraordinary measures to safeguard it. Unmarried girls would be kept within the bosom of their family as much as possible, chaperoned on excursions, and on those occasions when they were let out of bounds for social events, their fathers would often accompany them discreetly by hiding underneath their voluminous skirts ready to pounce on any man who transgressed the bounds of propriety. However, a father with more than one daughter couldn't be everywhere at once. Thus, a suitor having a discreet vis-a-vis with his beloved would cautiously ascertain her father's whereabouts by asking, 'And how is your father?' If her father was currently under her skirts, she would glance downwards and reply, 'My father is very well, thank you, and as alert and vigorous as ever, and maintains his interest in rusty castrating implements.' Her beau would then say, 'I have always had the greatest respect for your father, and of course for you. Let us hold hands and think about the Queen for a while.' If, on the other hand, her father was elsewhere, she would reply, 'The mad old bastard is currently stationed between my sister Constance's thighs. Let us go into the garden and rut like stoats.' Hence, 'How's your father' became a euphemism for you-know-what. I imagine it never caught on in France because Frenchmen didn't care who shagged their daughters as long as they could watch. 14. A phreatomagmatic eruption is an explosive water-magma interaction. This type of eruption produces fine grained tephra. Large amounts of steam and magmatic gases are emitted. An example of a Phreatomagmatic Eruption was the eruptions of Mt Usu in Japan in April 2000. To each his own... 15. thank-you-ma'am \THANK-yoo-mam\ noun a bump or depression in a road; especially a ridge or hollow made across a road on a hillside to cause water to run off Example sentence: "That night on the way home, thinking of his pleasant visit, he was suddenly shaken out of his tranquility... when his touring car hit a 'thank-you-ma'am' in the unpaved road." (Hugh Manchester, Centre Daily Times [State College, PA], August 22, 2000) Did you know? "Thank-you-ma'am" might seem like an odd name for a bump in the road, but the expression makes a little more sense if you imagine the motion your head would make as you drove over such an obstacle. Most likely, the jarring would make you nod involuntarily. Now think of the nodding gesture you make when you're thanking someone or acknowledging a favor. The "thank-you-ma'am" road bump is believed to have received its name when someone noted the similarity of those two head bobbing motions. It's a colloquialism particular to American English, and its earliest printed use is found in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1849 prose piece, Kavanagh: "We went like the wind over the hollows in the snow; — the driver called them 'thank-you-ma'ams,' because they make every body bow." 16. This is a very tempting offer. I'd love to be able to jump with you. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights, they last 7 to 8 hours, and are quite expensive. I'd only get one day of jumping. I'll have to plan a visit when I have more time. Thanks for the invite, son.
