Trumps genuine concerns about our country.
Phil1111 replied to CameraNewbie's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm sorry but life is too short to spend any more time watching or listening to trump. Bernie Sanders had genuine concerns about the US as well. He just had no economic sense about how to pay for them. Just like trump. -
I was flying down a ridge in a hang glider and closed up behind a hawk. At about 100 feet behind him he turned his head around and looked straight down his back at me. He looked ahead and back at me a couple times but must have got nervous as i was closing in on him at about 10 mph. One last look and a quick wingover and he was gone.

Agree Wonder what the voter turnout will be when voters have to decide on which of the two turds is the least smelly.

Sanders is an Independent. He is not a Dem, he just caucuses with them. According to Wikipedia, since 2015 he's been D . . . When Cooper asked him at a townhall, "In your heart are you a democrat?", and Bernies said "Sure." Soooo - Wether you like it or not he has declared democrat. ""So it certainly does happen that candidates switch into and out of independent status, and I suppose they're called by whatever party they're running as at the time," said Marjorie Hershey, a professor of political science at Indiana University who specializes in political parties. Sanders listed the Democratic Party as his party affiliation in his statement of candidacy. At the start of his campaign, he still seemed uncomfortable self-identifying as a Democrat. When asked if he would officially join the party on April 30, 2015, when he announced his candidacy, Sanders said, "No, I am an independent who is going to be working with the —" cutting himself off mid-sentence." http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2016/feb/23/bernie-sanders-democrat/ So the actions of a few Dem insiders doing the exact same thing that RNC insiders tried to do with Trump. Is more important than US national security, US electoral Independence and free elections? Yikes. There is a reason why the Russian hackers didn't release the RNC emails. For Putin, Trump is the man.

“experts are telling us that Russian state actors broke in to the DNC, took all these emails and now are leaking them out through these Web sites. . . . It’s troubling that some experts are now telling us that this was done by the Russians for the purpose of helping Donald Trump.”..... The emails were released Friday on Twitter by WikiLeaks. The document dump follows a report last month by The Washington Post that Russian government hackers had penetrated the computer network of the DNC, gaining access to an entire database of opposition research, among other material.... On Sunday, Mook and others noted that Trump has taken positions in the campaign that seem to align with those held by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He cited Trump’s recent statement on NATO — that he might not provide assistance to member states that hadn’t contributed their financial share — as a sign that the Republican nominee is taking positions favorable to Putin. “I think when you put all this together, it’s a disturbing picture and voters need to reflect on that,” Mook told CNN in an interview Sunday. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, flatly denied the insinuation, calling Mook’s comments “pure obfuscation” on ABC’s “This Week.”... Last month, the forensic firm CrowdStrike said two competing Russian intelligence hacker groups penetrated the DNC’s computers. In the past 24 hours, cybersecurity experts have said that the email cache released by WikiLeaks on Friday appears to have been given to the anti-secrecy group by Russian intelligence. Thomas Rid, a professor at King’s College London, said in an interview that in a private chat on Twitter on Saturday, he communicated with the entity that claimed to have released the email cache to WikiLeaks. The party, which calls itself Guccifer2, last month claimed responsibility for the DNC hack. Several independent analysts have concluded that Guccifer2, who claimed to be Romanian, is likely linked to Russia. “We’ve been looking at this very closely from both the technical and non-technical spheres,” said Richard Barger, chief information officer for ThreatConnect, a cyber-intelligence software firm. “Based on our analysis, we strongly feel Guccifer2 is linked to a Russian information operations campaign and is not the independent Romanian hacker that he claims to be.” The apparent link to Russian intelligence raises troubling implications for U.S. foreign relations and national security. Russia has not to date tried to interfere in U.S. elections, analysts say. But if this is a deliberate effort by the Kremlin to meddle, it is worrisome, they say. Michael G. Vickers, who served as undersecretary of defense for intelligence from 2011 to 2015, said an effort by the Russians to release intelligence in advance of a U.S. election is likely unprecedented. “What is really new here is the attempt to influence the politics of the United States. That is the problem,” he said." https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/clinton-campaign--and-some-cyber-experts--say-russia-is-behind-email-release/2016/07/24/5b5428e6-51a8-11e6-bbf5-957ad17b4385_story.html

I've seen people land barefoot so I'll agree to forget special shoes. There are "jump boots" but they're for round chutes that make you land vertically instead of in a glide. When starting out, I would suggest the sliding landing. It allows you to get closer to the ground before flaring all the way. After some jumps and you get more comfortable judging distances, then you can go for standup landings. Students will suck at judging height in the beginning and the sliding landing is more forgiving during that time. It's not "proper" and probably no AFFI would teach it but looking back, I consider it irresponsible to tell a student to try to land on 2 feet. Landing-related injuries are unfortunately common for AFF students and the sliding landing could've prevented many if not most of them. Please don't give any more advice. The advice is you're giving is wrong and you don't even seem to understand why it's wrong. thx , you already posted what i was thinking.

Tandem passengers made to pay to pull the ripcord
Phil1111 replied to douwanto's topic in Tandem Skydiving
When other DZ's are dealing with discounts, competition and groupon deals. They seem to be in a world of their own. IMO if they can get away with it, its called capitalism. There are people with lots of money and perhaps the San Francisco/San Jose market has insufficient competition. According to the advertising poster they are the "best value tandem skydives" and you get a free t-shirt if you bring a group of 12 to pay $419 for the VIP package. -

How did he get a gun where guns are banned? Well guns are not banned. You just have to jump through huge obstacles and pay lots of money to own one. All excellent points for why gun control seldom works ".A firearms ownership license (Waffenbesitzkarte or WBK) or an entry to an existing WBK is mandatory for each weapon purchased. It entitles owners to purchase firearms and handle them on their own property and any private property with property owner consent. On public premises, a licensed firearm must be transported unloaded and in a stable, fully enclosing, locked container. A weapons ownership license does not entitle the owner to shoot the weapon or carry it on public premises without the prescribed container. Owners must obtain mandatory insurance and a means to securely store the weapon on their premises (a weapons locker). Blanket ownership licenses are issued to arms dealers, firearms experts and – with limitations – to collectors. Today, there are ca. four million legal private gun owners.[15] A number of criteria must be met before a firearms ownership license is issued: age of majority (18 years) (§ 4 WaffG) trustworthiness (§ 5 WaffG) personal adequacy (§ 6 WaffG) expert knowledge (§ 7 WaffG) and necessity (§ 8 WaffG) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_legislation_in_Germany Everything about the process is EXPENSIVE. "A German-Iranian teenager who killed nine people and then himself in Munich had undergone psychiatric treatment and was in all probability a lone gunman who had no Islamist militant ties, police said on Saturday. The 18-year-old, who was born and raised locally, opened fire near a busy shopping mall on Friday, triggering a lockdown in the Bavarian capital in the third act of violence against civilians in Western Europe - and the second in southern Germany - in eight days. Seven of his victims were themselves teenagers, police said, and Bavarian state crime office president Robert Heimberger said the gunman was carrying more than 300 bullets in his backpack and pistol when he was later found dead of a gunshot wound. Following a police search of the attacker's room, where a book on teenage shooting sprees was discovered, Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae all but ruled out an Islamist militant link in the attack, in which a further 27 people were wounded - including some hurt when panic spread." http://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-crime-munich-idUSKCN1021YZ The report suggests he was of Iranian descent born in Munich. Most Iranians are predominately Shia whereas IS is a Sunni (inspired)movement.

Replace "hardcore democrats" with the far extreme end of any group. Pro or Anti; gun, abortion, dolphin rights, comic books, whatever. My Little Pony . . . Cheerfully agree - extremists suck except for CrWdawgs and packers Now you have it. In elections the candidates arise and are vetted by the hard core activists within the party. Thats why extremists sometimes come to the fore. When President Obama was RE-ELECTED the RNC went through an extensive period of hand wringing and despondent thinking about what went horribly wrong. Gee no Black, Hispanic, working poor, support and low support from the middle class. Now, instead, they have nominated a "outsider" that alienates ...everyone! Get ready for eight more years of democratic presidents. Eight years to appoint SC justices, eight years for more gun control, higher taxes, etc.

My opinion of Ted Cruz just went up. It sure surprised the hell out of me. In the meantime " LONDON — Donald Trump set off alarm bells in European capitals Thursday after suggesting he might not honor the core tenet of the NATO military alliance. Trump said the U.S. would not necessarily defend new NATO members in the Baltics in the event of Russian attack if he were elected to the White House. " http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/2016-conventions/donald-trump-remarks-nato-trigger-alarm-bells-europe-n613911 Consistency in policy is core to international relations. Foreign policy on the part of the US has been use the hammer, abandon allies, make promises, ignore promises. Trump should fit right in. "The Baltic states had sought NATO and US troops and prepositioned equipment since Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014. Lithuania wants NATO to station a permanent battalion-size force and equipment in Lithuania "at the earliest possible time," Olekas said. "This strong and credible allied deterrence, together with militarily purposeful forces and the prepositioning of equipment, is critical to the security of the Baltic region." Military costs are set to take a larger piece of Lithuania's national budget after the government approved plans to increase spending by 32 percent to $476 million in 2015. This leap in capital expenditure will increase spending as a ratio of gross domestic product to 1.1 percent in 2015 with a projected growth to 1.5 percent in 2016. Lithuania had been spending less than 1 percent of GDP on defense in 2013. The ambition, said Olekas, is that Lithuania will reach NATO's 2 percent of GDP spending target by 2020. Estonia's defense budget will exceed US $463 million in 2015, rising above 2.1 percent of its GDP to mainly cover costs associated with providing infrastructure and accommodation for incoming NATO troops and equipment. Latvia's defense budget will surpass $285 million in 2015, rising by 12 percent compared with 2014, and to a record 1 percent of GDP. "This is no longer a survival budget, but a development budget. Our task now is to dynamically develop the armed forces to the level necessary for ensuring our country's defense," said Raimonds Vejonis, Latvia's defense minister. Like Lithuania, Latvia plans to scale up its military spending to meet NATO's 2 percent target by 2020." http://www.defensenews.com/story/defense/policy-budget/2015/06/27/finland-sweden-russia-nato-baltics-tensions-budgets-gdp/29289941/

Crazier than claiming to have attempted to kill someone with a knife when he was a teenager? Sometimes the memories from our teen years can get a bit hazy. Carson claiming that Hillary will bring about the destruction of America due to her allegance to Satan is straight bat shit crazy. It's amazing that someone who is obviously brilliant can believe such garbage. POLITICIAN... who said anything that he actually believes that. Garbage is actually a good term for anything that is said at any political convention. It seems as if Hillary and Trump ideologies have both become infected with lying as a fundamental basis of thought. I know, I know, more-so that other years and decades of political ideology.

Huh? Are we supposed to accept the speech or her explanation of the plagiarism? If you want us to accept the speech, then she could have gone out there and read the Gettysburg Address and you're saying we should all just accept that as her words? That makes no sense. And if you want us to accept her explanation, which one to you propose we accept? There have been many, none of which are consistent with each other. Face it. Your boy fucked up. And yes, he's your boy. Don't try to deny it, you'll just look silly. Yeah, Coreeece had a brain fart. Its an introductory speech by a prospective first lady at the RNC convention. Not a speech from a soccer mom at the local PTA. There is a reason why the Trump group keeps screwing up. Gets caught lying. Just as i wouldn't believe anything Hillary has to say. Lie, deny and coverup.

We understand exactly what you meant. Its still telling a "little white lie". That being she wrote most of it. If she wants to come clean just admit that some idiot wrote it for me. I know now that its really from the mouth of Mrs. Obama. I agree with what she said. But that would go against everything politics stands for. everything the Donald stands for. Deny, deny, deny, ignore, spin and coverup.

"We’re in grave danger The lineup of speakers presented a United States in danger, threatened from abroad and from within, a once-proud nation on the very brink of chaos and dystopia. Six of the speakers were military veterans, including Marcus Luttrell, the celebrated former Navy SEAL, who bluntly warned that “the enemy is here.” A half-dozen more were relatives of Americans murdered by foreign terrorists or illegal immigrants — threats to the nation’s safety and cohesion that often mingle in the Trump worldview. Another was the former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, who likened the country to a circa-1980s New York in need of a strong hand. “There is no next election,” Mr. Giuliani warned. “This is it!” http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/20/us/politics/gop-convention-day-1-highlights.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=b-lede-package-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news I watched for a couple minutes and had to start by adjusting the color contrast of my TV to adjust for all the wrinkled white skin.

Typical baglicking politics. A politician will do ANYTHING for power. Never saw it(60 min.) but pandering, backstabbing and lying always trumps(pardon the pun) standards of integrity. ""Let me be as blunt and as direct as I can be," Gingrich said on Thursday. "Western civilization is in a war. We should frankly test every person here who is of Muslim background and if they believe in sharia, they should be deported. Sharia is incompatible with Western civilization." http://www.latimes.com/nation/politics/trailguide/la-na-trailguide-updates-newt-gingrich-1468592810-htmlstory.html As if the Constitution never existed. "Pence is the most conservative choice of the rumored vice-presidential picks Trump considered—both in terms of his own ideology, and in terms of the political calculus behind selecting him. FiveThirtyEight’s Harry Enten calculated that he is the most right-wing running-mate selection in many years, and is more conservative than either Newt Gingrich or Chris Christie, who were thought to be leading runners up. Turkey coup attempt: military claims takeover of government
Phil1111 replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
By the looks of it it was a completely successful coup. "Thousands of judges purged The Turkish government has embarked on a purge of the judiciary following the botched coup, state TV reports, in the first sign of how last night could increase Erdogan's authoritarian rule. NTV said 2,745 judges had been removed from duty, following a decision of the High Council of Judges. Five members of the High Judiciary Court Board were also removed. " http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/16/turkey-coup-president-erdogan-says-military-elements-guilty-of-t/ Turkey had coups in 1960, 1971 and 1980, and a near-coup in 1997. Turkey wants to join the EU. Erdogan will continue to consolidate power, replace secularism with fascism and set aside the ideas of Ataturk. -

Today is the Brexit vote. We have lots of bets going, what do you think?
Phil1111 replied to ibx's topic in Speakers Corner
What happens on Wall Street versus what happens on Main Street are completely different beasts. Correct. The herd mentality of wall street is not reflective of US exporters. The US trade deficit is 480 billion per year. -
And groupon deals capture the impulsive, people will shop for deals, some will organize groups for increased discounts, etc. This is a road that cuts profits where they matter the most. ANYONE who deals with students or prospective students. Plus the experienced jumpers at the dz have to be trained to sell and promote new students at the dz. This is work. This takes innovative ideas. Its a competitive world out there.Prospective students think about going skydiving or doing xyz. Brainstorm marketing ideas continuously. Because everybody else is doing it too.

I am moving to the UK, need some advice
Phil1111 replied to 64rky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I thought that I could quote one or two posts in this thread to register disbelief or amazement at the rules and common practices in the UK. But incredulity seemed to grow with each and every post. 1. FAA commercial retirement age 65. 2. John Glen was 77 when he flew as payload specialist on STS-95 aboard the space shuttle Discovery. 3. I personally trained a first time jumper who was 74 and a current pilot. He did fine. 4. Why would any prospective student want to make a first jump in the UK when it seems as if they are just cash cows to be milked of every pound. I could go on but it seems as if the BPA knows everything already. I can see why Brexit was inevitable. -

Bingo. Trump seems to have brought all these people (using that term loosely) out from under their rocks, rotting stumps and other icky places. He's validating their ugliness. Their hatred, xenophobia and bigotry. And if he's elected, I think they are going to feel like they can be like that even more. Really frightening. I sort of agree. But give America credit for have a separate house, senate, presidency, judiciary and independent media. It sort of limits the damages one nut can do.....
